Change Anything! Registration is now open for two special

CHANGE ANYTHING programs!

Have you or anyone you know mastered what it takes to create lasting change - whether it be per-sonal or organizational? Our at-tempts to change often fail, even with the best of intention and ef-fort. The researchers/authors at Vital Smarts* have invested over twenty years of research into the science of behavior change, and we are very excited to partner with them to bring you an exciting new program, Change Anything.

Change Anything is a break-through application of powerful social science skills to equip eve-ryone with the ability to succeed at self-directed change. Change Anything skills help employees and leaders take charge of their own change in ways that lead to greater engagement, perform-ance, health, and personal happi-ness.

Monthly Program Event The evening of September 25, we will offer a one-hour presentation by one of Vital Smarts' master trainers (see bio on page 6). In this engaging presentation,

participants will learn to make long anticipated improvements in their lives, careers and relationships by applying three breakthrough princi-ples:

1. Escape the willpower trap. Those who fail falsely believe they lack willpower. More often, the problem is that they are blind to and outnumbered by the many sources of influence shaping their behavior.

2. Be the scientist and the sub-ject. Those who succeed refine a completely unique theory of change tailored to their individ-ual needs.

3. Turn bad days into good data. The successful care less about dramatic success than they do about incremental learning.

This special event will be hosted by St. Mary's. We strongly encour-age you to invite leaders within your business to attend with you. If you have change initiatives go-ing on in your organization, what a great way to engage them in a conversation and share solid re-search-based information with them on how to make change suc-cessful.

Your South Central Wisconsin Chapter has some fantastic programs still to come this year, including a special event in September from Vital Smarts focusing on their latest book, Change Anything. We’ll also be offering sev-eral events focusing on learning tech-nologies. These sold out in 2012, so

A Message from Your President

ASTD SCWC is 100% CORE! This recognition means that our chapter met all 18 elements of ASTD’s Chap-ter Operating Requirements (CORE) in 2011. CORE is designed to help our chapter deliver a consistent set of benefits to members by providing a clear set of standards for chapter operations. CORE consists of elements in five key areas: administrative, financial, mem-bership, professional development, and communication. The process of meeting and reporting on CORE cre-ates a “self audit” of our operations, highlighting successes as well as ar-eas of opportunity.

Congratulations to chapter leaders for maintaining and exceeding CORE!

100% CORE Compliant!

When ASTD members join both the national organization and their chapter, they choose to be knowledge lead-ers in the workplace learning and performance (WLP) profession and change makers in their own backyard. Joint membership offers WLP professionals a unique opportunity to connect with local, national, and interna-tional professionals. Joint members can learn about trends in the field, and gain access to research, principles, practices, and templates they can apply directly to impacting organizational results, their community, and ad-vancing their career. Many of our chapter members belong to the national ASTD organization as well. For information on national membership, you may call 1-800-628-2783 or visit the National ASTD website at www.astd.org. Discounted rates are available when you add a National Membership to your local one. Ask about "The Power of Two" to save $20 off your national membership, and make sure to use our ChIP code (5089) when joining.

Full Day Change Anything Workshop

On September 26, we will offer the full-day Change Anything workshop at CUNA. Because of our partnership with Vital Smarts, we will offer special pricing to everyone for this very popular training! Workshop attendees not only experience world-class train-ing, but also receive support ma-terials, including a full participant workbook, a copy of the book, an audio companion, and after work-shop access to a participant web site with videos, exercises, as-sessments, and more!

Change Anything is a one-day classroom course that teaches individuals to recognize the per-sonal, social, and environmental

forces of influence currently work-ing against them - and then turn them in their favor. Participants will learn to:

Diagnose what's keeping them stuck in the status quo

Create change plans that lead to desirable and lasting results

Translate performance feed-back into action

Use six sources of influence to make individual change inevitable

One of the author's sons, Hyrum Grenny, put these six sources of influence to the test in an experi-ment of his own. For a great

summary of the research (and a few smiles!), check out this short video: https://www.changeanything.com/blindandoutnumbered. Register now to reserve your place for these two very special events!

“Change Anything is the solution for any type of individual behavior change. It dramatically improves results.”

—George Okantey, Purdue University

Everyone knows an organization can’t improve unless its people do. And people don’t change unless they are willing and able to do so. Change Anything is a breakthrough appli-cation of powerful social science skills to equip everyone with the ability to succeed at self-directed change. Change Anything skills help employees and leaders take charge of their own change in ways that lead to greater engagement, performance, health, and personal happiness. What Is Change Anything Training?

Change Anything™ Training is a one-day classroom course that teaches individuals to recognize the personal, social, and environ-mental forces of influence currently working against them—and then turn them in their favor. By doing so, they become more engaged and productive, and ten times more likely to solve complex problems.

What Does Change Anything Training Teach?

Change Anything teaches participants how to:

Diagnose what’s keeping them stuck in the status quo. Create change plans that lead to desirable and lasting results. Translate performance feedback into action.

Use six sources of influence to make individual change inevitable.

Who Needs Change Anything Training?

The change model taught in Change Anything Training can be used by any individual struggling to change a bad habit or looking to improve performance. Training participants will leave with a systematic process for changing their behavior and experience new levels of productivity, engagement, and success.

Organizational Benefits of Individual Behavior Change

The benefits of this breakthrough training approach carry far beyond performance im-provement. When individuals have the skills and support needed to succeed at self-directed change, they become substantially more effective at:

• Performance Management: Research shows 70 percent of employees who are aware their boss is unhappy with their performance can’t tell you what they are doing wrong or how they will change. On the other hand, employees equipped with the skills to change career-limiting habits are 10 times more likely to turn per-formance gaps into meaningful change.

• Corporate Wellness: The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention puts a $3,391 price tag on each employee who smokes: $1,760 in lost productiv-ity and $1,623 in excess medical expenses. Companies that teach employees to achieve greater personal health substantially reduce healthcare costs while increas-ing the well-being of their workforce.

• Change Management: Few organizations can successfully drive rapid, comprehen-sive change—even when the organization finds itself on a burning platform. While leaders might understand the recipe for change, they struggle to get their peo-ple to adopt the required behaviors. As a result, one initiative after another fails. On the other hand, leaders who enable employees with the skills to direct their own behavior are ten times more likely to influence system-wide change.

Who Have We Influenced?

More than 750,000 people and 300 of the Fortune 500 companies have used our skills to improve their organizational culture and create widespread behavior change. What’s The Next Step?

If individuals in your organization could benefit from the skills taught in Change Anything Train-ing, contact us today to learn more. Call 1-800-449-5989 or visit us at www.vitalsmarts.com.
