of Ordinary Time 1883-2015
WHAT’S IN YOUR HEART?
As a person of faith what does wisdom mean to you? In scripture, wisdom refers
variously to smart decision-making, wise teaching, a body of literature, one particular
book, a remarkable woman, and the person of Jesus. But let’s start at its beginning.
Wisdom is originally presented as a divine attribute: an aspect of God to be imitated
by those made in God’s likeness. Like other divine characteristics—love, justice,
mercy, truth—God desires to share wisdom with us. How are we striving to imitate
God in our lives?

PRAYER FOR THE
FEAST OF THE
QUEENSHIP OF MARY
O God, who made the
Mother of your Son to be
our Mother and our Queen,
graciously grant that,
sustained by her intercession,
we may attain in the heavenly
Kingdom the glory promised
to your children. Through
our Lord Jesus Christ, your
Son, who lives and reigns
with you in the unity of the
Holy Spirit, one God, for
ever and ever.
Amen.
WHERE WE LIVE, SERVE, & WALK TOGETHER IN FAITH.
ST. JOSEPH’S P A GE T WO
FROM THE PASTOR
My Dear Parish Family
It seems that many restaurants are touting their latest
takes on comfort food. And, in light of our readings
from last week, I was wondering “what is your guilty
pleasure?” What do you find yourself craving after a
day when everything has gone wrong or after a blow
up with a loved one, or upon hearing bad news that
you can’t make better? For me, it’s a steaming bowl of
no. 9 spaghetti covered with my mom’s slightly spicy
sauce (not gravy in our house) and Locatelli cheese
freshly grated. It was my mother’s best dish. Maybe
that’s why it satisfies me, protects me, nourishes me,
and heals me. It’s my comfort food of choice.
For someone else it could be a hot fudge sundae or red
beans and rice or pot roast or pierogi or mac and
cheese! For a noticeably depressed Elijah it was an
angelic hearth cake and cold water perhaps because it
reminded him of the manna that fed the Chosen People
as they wandered the desert after leaving Egypt.
Our Lord Jesus wants the people to understand that he
is the Bread of Life: more nourishing and life sustain-
ing than even the historic manna. And so, he is saying
to us, that whatever ails us, whatever our problems, we
need only to come to the table of plenty where the
Eucharist will give us all the comfort we need.
God bless you and enjoy these August days!!
Fr. Scott

JUST DO IT!
[Psalm 95] Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation. Is God calling you in some special way? Do you love to lift up your hearts in song and worship him during mass? Have you felt the lead of the Holy Spirit
beckoning you to come forward and say “I want to help lead the singing too?”
Come join the adult choir as we worship and enhance the litur-gy! The choir is made up of volunteers who are dedicated, committed to serving, and are fun-loving. All levels of singing are welcome from beginner to advanced. Practices are held Thursday nights from 7:30-9:00pm in the church. The choir sings on Sundays from mid-September-June and will be rotating masses this season. They also sing on Christmas Eve, Holy Week, and other special events held throughout the year.
Our first rehearsal will take place on Thursday, September 3rd in the church from 7:30pm to 9:00pm. Be excited where the Lord places you to serve him. He is getting ready to bless you and bring much fruit into your lives when you answer his call in whatever ministry he calls you to. If you love to sing and praise him then this is your time to come forward. Contact Gina in the office at 732-349-0018 ext. 2306 or at [email protected] .

Estimada Familia Parroquial
