Help children in need through School Tools

SMPC will collect school supplies through Sunday, Sept. 9 to help children in need through Classroom Central, A Child’s Place and Center of Hope.

Welcome, New Members – July 2014

C.W. and Judy Casey join SMPC by Transfer from Cole United Methodist Church here in Charlotte.

They have lived in Charlotte for 15 ½ years, moving here from Galax, VA. They have four grown children and six grandchildren. They are both retired and C.W. enjoys reading, gardening, and being a barbecue judge; Judy enjoys reading, sewing, and quilting.

Linda Howey joins us by Transfer from Huguenot Memorial Church in Pelham, NY.

Linda and her family moved from Pelham to Charlotte in June 2013.

Linda has two daughters: Adele is a rising 7th grader at J.M. Robinson Middle School and Gracie is a rising 5th grader at The Fletcher School.

Linda’s background is in publishing and she previously worked for the National Geographic Society. She enjoys spending time with her family as well as reading, biking, travel, and volunteering.

The Howeys live in Providence Country Club.

John Lyday joins us by Reaffirmation of Faith.

John and his family moved to Charlotte two years ago from Tokyo, Japan. He was born and raised in Charlotte, so he’s happy to be back home! John is married to Kanako and they have two daughters: Elysia will be a freshman at Ardrey Kell and Ashley will be in 6th grade at Community House.

John has his own tax and personal financial planning business. He enjoys golf, tennis, swimming, camping, literature, and music.

The Lydays live in Southampton.

Dave Schulenberg joins SMPC by Reaffirmation of Faith.

Dave has lived in Charlotte for 13 ½ years. He lived for many years in Stow, Ohio and grew up in St. Louis, MO. He was married to his beloved wife, Carol, and has three grown sons and two grandchildren here in the Charlotte area.

Dave is technical accounts manager, adhesives and coatings with BASF Corporation. He enjoys travel (beach or mountains), fly fishing, cooking, reading (fiction), anything outdoors and spoiling his grandkids.

Dave lives in Blakeney Preserve.

They have lived in the Charlotte area for 12 years, moving here from Arlington, VA.

They have two children: Jeffrey is a rising 4th grader and Katherine is a rising 1st grader, both at Charlotte Preparatory School.

Dan is regional sales manager – mortgage lending with Centennial Lending Group and Danielle is an attorney with Milazzo Gamble Webb Law Group. They both enjoy working out and Dan also enjoys cooking and politics; Danielle also enjoys running and herding/refereeing the kids.

Food Trucks & Bluegrass Night

The skies cleared Saturday just in time for a great evening of food trucks and live music.

A big crowd enjoyed Maki Taco, Vito’s Pizza, Belly Backers and Sticks & Cones ice cream. The Holy Rollers and the Snyder Family Band entertained with music.

Vacation Bible School 2014 Thank you, teachers and children!

VBS children join us today to celebrate the end of a great week of learning and discovery. They will lead us in worship with their VBS song during the Introit.

SMPC welcomed 175+ children for art, stories, science, recreation, singing and more – all led by a talented team of volunteer leaders.

Sixth graders on the Mission Possible team (below, right) learned about community in visits to Loaves & Fishes, A Child’s Place, Animal Care & Control and other local agencies.
