Page3LetterfromAndrewHousleyDearfriends,Afewmonthsago,wesignedupfortheonlinestreamingchannelNetflix.Pesterpowerhadgotthebetterofusandsowedecidedthatwewouldsignupfortheonemonthfreetrial.WithinthefirstweekJoandIwerehookedtotheNetflixdrama,‘TheCrown’.TheexcellentdramaseriesfocusesonQueenElizabethasa25yearoldnewlymarriedmonarch,andcoverseventswithinthefirstfewyearsofherreign.OneofthebenefitsofNetflixisthatyoudon’thavetowaitaweekforthenextepisode,becausealloftheepisodesareavailableassoonasthedramaisreleased.Weweregrippedbythedramaandbingewatchedthetwoseries.Therewasatimewhenwehadtowaitforwhatwewanted.Whetheritwaswaitingforthesummertogoonholiday,orwaitingforChristmastohavespecialtreats,orwaitingaweekforthenextepisodeofadrama.Itseemsthattodaywedon’talwayshavetowait,becausewhatwewantismorelikelytobeavailablewhenwewantit.Thedevelopmentofourconsumeristsocietyhasmeantthatthetraditionalseasonofharvestmeanslesstopeoplethanbefore.Thishasmeantthatpeopleseemlesslikelytopauseintheirlifetosay‘thankyou’forwhatwetakeforgrantedandalwaysexpecttobethereforus.WhenwegatherasachurchtosharecommunionweareremindedthatJesustookthebreadandthewineandgavethankstoGodbeforehesharedthem.Theactofthankfulnessneedstobeapartofourbusylives.AtHarvestwearealsoremindedthatnoteveryonehastheluxuryoftakingforgrantedwhatwehave.Somepeoplearestillwaitingforhelpthatcomesfromthegenerosityofothers.Throughouttheyear,weshowourgenerositybycollectingfortheSkelmersdaleFoodBank,LitherlandMossPrimarySchool,BootleSalvation
