Male: 13 Female: 7

My target audience was both male and female. Therefore I made sure that I had a mixture of both male and female responses to my questionnaire, so that my research was not heavily sided towards one gender over the other.

Are you male or female?

I needed a mixture of both genders so that I had opinions from different aspects of my target audience. Which will then mean that I can hopefully meet the wants of both male and female reader.

knew that my research was aimed at my target audience. Which then meant that I knew that the responses I received were appropriate and relevant.

My target audience is 16-25 year olds. Which explains why all of the responses to my questionnaire fell in this age range. I did this purposely so that I knew the responses to the answers I then asked would all be relevant and I would be able to use them as a guide when creating my own magazine.

Do you already read a music magazine?

Yes:12No:8The reason I included

this question into my questionnaire is so that I knew whether the answers I received were based on knowledge of existing magazines, or whether it was purely opinions.

I can use this information gathered by analysing the results of those people that answered no. This can then help me try to make my music magazine appeal to those who aren’t music magazine fans.

I can try to make my magazine appeal more to these people by taking their answers into account, on things such as what contents they would wish to read.

What do you like about the magazines you already read?

The reason that I asked this question was because I wanted to find out what it was that existing magazines included that attracted their readers.

This will help me in the production of my music magazine because I now know the aspects of real magazines that readers want to see and the types of articles they wish to read.

Page 6: Audience research

Is there anything they don’t include that you wish they did?

To this question I received 12 answers. All of which were No.

I asked this question so that I knew whether I needed to add additional articles and features to my magazine compared to existing ones, to make it appealing.

These responses will help me in the creation of my magazine because I know to base my content on the kinds of content these magazines already include. I know to do this because they don’t wish to see anything other than this.

However I could have made this information more useful by asking my audience to expand on their answers. Or perhaps making suggestions as to content they would wish to see would have prompted their responses, which then would have helped me in planning my content as I could have included these things.

How often do you purchase a music magazine?

I asked this question so that I knew what frequency of publication my magazine would have. The results collected helped me in knowing that not one person out of my audience research would purchase a magazine weekly.

This information helps me because it has made me aware that the majority of people would prefer a monthly magazine. Therefore I can make my music magazine a monthly publication.

What do you think is a rea-sonable price to pay?

The reason I included this question into my questionnaire was so that I could find out how much my target audience was willing to spend on my magazine. As the graph shows, the majority of the results were between £2-£3. Therefore this will help me in the production of my music magazine as I now know how to price it.

What 3 words would you associate with the rock and alternative music genres?

There were a couple of reasons that I included this question.

The first being so that I would have some information to base my title around. By finding out words people associate with the genre will help in deciding a title that will also relate to the genre of music.

The second reason I included it was so that I could include these in puffs and cover-lines on my front cover would relate to the genre of the music.

What colours do you associate with the rock and alternative genres?

This question is very important in my audience research as it will play a big part in the construction of my own magazine. The information collected will help me decide on the colour scheme of my magazine, and by these results red, black and grey should be included.

What would you like to see included in the content?

This question was asked so that I can base my list of content on my contents page around what my target audience are most interested in reading. This research is relevant and useful because it has been gathered from a range of my target audience. This information will help my in the construction of my magazine because I can now aim to meet the wants of my audience.

I included this question into my questionnaire so that I could get some suggestions for the title of my own music magazine.

This will then help me in the production of my magazine as I no longer have to waste limited time trying to come up with a title myself.

I no longer have to think of a title as I shall use the suggestion “Amplified” that was received during my audience research.

rock?

This question was asked so that I had an idea what font to use when creating my magazine for the masthead, and cover-lines.

These results help me by making the decision of the masthead font for me. I shall use the 4th font option for the masthead because it was most commonly chosen as the font that portrays rock music the most.

As for the cover-lines, I shall decide when creating my magazine between the 3rd and 5th font. This is because these were the next two most chosen fonts. The reason I shall decide when creating it is because as I shall see which looks the most professional on my coverpage.
