With the standard A5, Audi

provides a stunning

summer cruiser. Both the

coupe and cabriolet are

powered by a turbo-charged

2.0-litre, 4-cylinder that

delivers 220 horsepower.

The Cabrio is fitted with

front-drive and a

continuously variable

transmission (CVT) that

generates fuel savings but

like most CVT’s the

response is sluggishness.

All the other variant have

all-wheel drive, with a

choice of a six-speed

manual or an eight-speed

automatic.

The A5 range are ideal for

a couple and their luggage,

although one or two

additional passengers can

be accommodated but very

cramped.

The cabin interior is finely

built, has well-padded

seats and ample shoulder

room- as opposed to the

rear seats which are too

short in the legs for adults.

From the driver's seat,

visibility when reversing is

poor side due to the

chunky C-pillars.

The Audi A5 coupe is a stylish and relatively

practical alternative to the BMW 4 Series and

Mercedes C-Class Coupes. Available in three

body styles: Coupe, Cabriolet and Sportback

and is based on the more practical Audi A4,

meaning it gets all the tried-and-tested

technology.

The A5 still looks fresh and modern, thanks to

a mid-life facelift in 2012. There are plenty of

engines to choose from, as well as SE, S line,

Black edition and Ultra trim levels.

For those more interested in extra performance

than efficiency there's also the Audi S5 Coupe,

S5 Cabriolet and S5 Sportback models. These

use a 3.0-litre V6 with 328bhp. There's also the

Audi RS5, which gets a 4.2-litre V8 engine and

is the fastest in the range.
