' il We can always use continued traffic control training in ALDOT. i I

It was a good course.

lntructors good job.

Ti Keep up the good work.

I feel that more handouts would be helpful, for instance, having the class to fill out a r : I I

blank daily inspection report. Also, more breaks are needed because there is a lot of . . i , information being said, and after about an hour of listening to someone talk, the mind

seems to wander. I l i

I, I . Do not make someone feel bad for asking a question! Learn that there is no dumb I question, no matter how many times asked! Remember nothing is learned without

questioning something to being with! Understand my question!

The traffic control policy was too small on the print out.

Might need to slow down presentation just a little.

i l l I Instructors could talk louder! i \ ' 1

I [ I Cleared up legal matters. I 4 -L

I remember signing a memo about class "rules." Apparently others did not sign the same memo, but my memo stated no cell phones or Southern Lincs would be allowed

el during class lecture - yet certain individuals continuously interrupted class with the Southern Linc beepering and them getting up numerous times to take a call - I am a

I i supervisor but left my Southern Linc behind.

L,i

Great job! Thanks.

Yes - I learned more about signs and traffic control to be safer for me and the public.

Yes - This class was very helpful to me in many different ways. Give this class once a year. I learned a lot.

Good.

It is good.

Yes - I learned different traffic control devices. I learned uniformity of traffic control, placement and operation, and high-visibility safety apparel. As an ALDOT employee, we should never use the word barrel. We should use the word drum. Do not use the word accident. Use the word crash.

Yes (5)

Other Comments

Needs to be help yearly and show local things that people (state and contractors) have done wrong. No one would want their job site shown, bit it would make people pay attention. Flaggers need to be certified.

Less focus on equations that will not be used (i.e. SSD). Focus more on the tables and general applications. Breaks too long.

Had trouble keeping up due to procedures.

Get new instructors.

I feel that more time is needed for this block of instruction.

Need more than a one day class.

SUMMARY COURSE COMMENTS

Birmingham September 14,2005

Did vou benefit from attending this course? Explain how.

Yes - I learned some things that I really did not know but I needed to know.

Yes - Now I know how to set up traffic control on construction projects and how to use the MUTCD.

Yes -This course was very detailed in explaining the components of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD). The instructors were able to divide the course into a nine part lecture. Each section was bisected and explained thoroughly. As a result of the instructors dividing the material up, it was much easier to digest and follow along. It is so much material that was covered in this course, the students didn't feel too overwhelmed with all of the material. Very interesting class! I gained a lot of valuable information from this course.

Yes - I learned something.

Yeah - Helped to inspect project correctly on signs, etc.

Yes - My attendance resulted in my attaining more knowledge regarding traffic control devices and the Policy and Procedures of ALDOT regarding same. Also, I attained knowledge of how to obtain information regarding same if I don't know it.

No - The instructors just went over a manual that I could have just read myself. This was a complete waste of time.

Yes -This course was very helpful with information needed to perform my job.

Yes - Now I know how to set up traffic control and make sure the contractors set up properly.

Yes - But I lost interest during formulas.

Yes - Plenty of helpful information, and I like the way the Manual is self-explanatory.

Minimally - Due to the fact that there was too much covered in too short a period of time. Did not really feel that I learned anymore than I already knew.

Yes - I got certified.

Page 43: AUBURN UNIVERSITY - Samuel Ginn College ... - · PDF fileAUBURN UNIVERSITY Final Report ... Montgomery Grove Hill Mobile Tuscaloosa ... Williams, Robert E. Williams, Stanley Wilson,

Yes - By obtaining the Manual to have as a reference for plans.

Yes - I received a Manual I can use as a guideline for TTC.

Yes - i am new to DOT. Therefore, all information was helpful to further assist me in learning my job requirements.

Sure

Yes

Other Comments

The class was too long. It should have been made shorter (112 day, not all day)

Basically, anyone with a little common sense could learn this basic premise in 4 hours. The only true benefit is learning to use this Manual as a reference. In addition, a shorter class would maximize students attention, therefore they will probably learn more, if possible.

Needs to be shortened by one hour at least. Do away with the workshop section. Take one hour for lunch instead of one hour and fifteen minutes. When referring "to the Green Manual", actually bring one. We were actually finished with the class at 3:30 p.m. but were help until 3:50 p.m.

I believe that these instructors went entirely too fast in this course. Hard to comprehend. Made it boring. Jumped around in book too much. Most of the participants lost interest very quickly, which brought about lots of talking which made it difficult to pay attention. I feel that the instructors lost control of the class. They should have told people to stop talking.

Try to give reasonable times before breaks.

Need more time.

Try to give reasonable times for breaks. Take lunch at the time you said it would be. Have class from 8:00 a.m. -3:OO p.m.

Class was just too long to be just half a day.

On the PowerPoint presentation, 1 think it would be helpful adding what page numbers the diagrams (for traffic control, etc.) are located in the textbook. 1 think this would help in referencing for those viewing. On the PowerPoint showing Figure 6C-3 on page 6C- 9, it should have on the side (PG 6C-9). Thank you.

Class is too large and not able to see visionable aid.

This class should be offered to all ALDOT construction employees.

Once again thanks for taking time out of your business schedule to train me in traffic control. Thanks!!!

Other Comments

It was kind of hard to keep up with where we were on the page. It would help to say the paragraph or in the middle of the page, etc.

Because of the seriousness of the subject of this course, and considering the amount of work zone traffic accidents and fatalities, this course should be a lot more in-depth. The instructors gave the impression that they were in a speed-talk competition.

Consider putting another choice on your course topics besides less and more.

The course was very good. It would help if the order of the class was done in the same order as the book.

Drinks and snacks needed. Separate students as Divisions (HMTI , EA's, etc.) because each one is more specific to each section, long term and short term.

Well put. Refreshments couldn't be too bad, could it? Thanks, John and Bob.
