“Attuned to ouR mIssIon.”

Over the past year, your contributions totaling more than $7.3 million have funded essential invest-ments in student scholarships, competitive compensation for faculty and staff, and advances in curriculum. Your gifts have also provided the resources needed for continued growth in academic and student programs and ongoing support for facilities needs.

Tonight our President’s Circle program puts a special spotlight on the benefits of education in the Performing Arts. Shana DeSouza Druffner ’85 will share with us the meaning of music in her own life, and how the arts can encourage our dreams. Whether those dreams begin with experiences in the classroom, on the stage, or the playing field, we know that talent and resources must be matched by goal-setting, discipline, and dedication to achieve success.

Almost always, great achievement also requires a commitment to teamwork. Our students learn valuable life-lessons through collaboration with others. Similarly, with the blessings of God, Ursuline has always moved forward on the strength of dedicated individuals working together toward a common goal.

Together, inspired by the teachings of St. Angela and the spirit of Serviam, we build community. Your mission-inspired giving makes excellence in Catholic education possible for all the young women who attend Ursuline, today and for all the years to come.

As Ursuline Academy prepares for a new era of leadership, I thank each of you for your unwavering support over the past 22 years and for your enduring commitment to our mission in Dallas.W

Sincerely,

SiSter Margaret ann MoSer, o.S.U. President

Shana DeSouza Druffner ’85 is an attorney practicing primarily in the area of railroad crossing and safety matters, working with several Class I railroads across the United States to develop and implement successful crossing closure programs, saving lives and reducing liability for her clients. In addition to her crossing and regulatory work, Shana has worked on a variety of legal matters ranging from negotiating service contracts, to intellectual property matters, and real estate and environmental matters.

In addition to her active legal practice, Shana has a dual career as a professional violinist and music educator. She began her violin studies at the age of 13. Shana studied with Motoi Takeda, Associ-ate Concertmaster of the DSO, and played with the Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra from 1982-85. Upon graduation from Ursuline Academy, she attended the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. She later studied with Hiroko Yajima of the Mannes Trio from 1987-90, and received her Bachelor of Music Performance, summa cum laude, from Rutgers University in 1990.

Shana is a graduate of Georgetown University Law Center, receiving her Juris Doctor in 1994. While at Georgetown, Shana served as Editor-in-Chief of the Georgetown Journal of Poverty Law and Policy, was a member of the Cardozo National Moot Court Team, and was a graduate of the prestigious Public Interest Law Scholars Program.

Seeking to enrich music in the Diocese, Shana founded an Orchestral Program at All Saints Catholic Church in 2005. Today, the program welcomes over fifty string players of all ages in two orchestras on Sunday afternoons. In 2006, she started an Orchestral Program at All Saints Catholic School for students in grades 5-8. That program has grown to seventy-eight students in three award-winning orchestras. All Saints is the only Catholic elementary school in the Diocese to have such a program. Shana was fortunate to receive the Work of the Heart Award in 2009 for her efforts. In addition to being the Director of Orchestras at All Saints Catholic School, she became the Assistant Director of Orchestra at John Paul II High School in Plano, expanding that program into a regular and honors class. This year, she chaired the Texas Private School Music Educators Association Region Honor Orchestras for both Middle School and High School.

Shana also maintains an active private violin and viola studio out of her home in North Dallas and actively freelances as a violinist across the Metroplex.

She resides with her husband of seventeen years and four string playing daughters in North Dallas. It is Shana’s dream to have music and art flourish in all our Diocesan schools to develop the talents of our children, enrich their academic performance, and ultimately bring glory to God.W

The President’s Award was established in 2004 and has been presented each year to recognize outstanding individuals for their extraordinary leadership and Serviam spirit in support of Ursuline Academy and excellence in education for young women.

“Build community wherever you go.” These words from St. Angela Merici inspired an Ursuline core value. for fritz and Mary Lee Duda, a personal commitment to community-building has been a guiding principle in lives dedicated to family values, educational excellence, and service to those in need. Over many years, they have provided philanthropic and volunteer leadership that has strengthened the foundations of Catholic institutions.

fritz Duda is chief executive officer of Genus Holdings, LLC, a Dallas-based investment company, and founder and owner of the fritz Duda Company, a privately held real estate development company with offices in Dallas, Newport Beach, and Chicago. At University of Notre Dame, he has served on advisory councils for the College of Engineering and Architecture and the School of Architecture; as a Trustee he currently serves on the Investment Committee. In 2009, he received an honorary doctorate of laws degree from the University. He is a Knight of Malta.

At Ursuline Academy, the Dudas established the first Mardi Gras Ball endowed scholarship, and provided leading gifts for the Ursuline Center for Performing Arts and The french family Science, Math and Technol-ogy Center. fritz also led a team of investors to acquire the campus’ northeast corner property for Ursuline.

Mary Lee has served as a member of the Ursuline Parent Board, President of the Mothers’ Club, and chaired the Mardi Gras Ball. She is one of the original 12 Angels of Charity, an organization that supports Catholic Charities of Dallas; a member of the Board of the Alliance for Catholic Education, Irish Studies Council at the University of Notre Dame, Dallas Junior League, Dallas Chapter of the National Charity League, and Phi Beta Phi Alumni Association. She is a Dame of Malta.

Mary Lee Nagle, a graduate of the University of Iowa, met fritz Duda during his years as a law school student at the University of California’s Hastings College of Law. They married and started their family in California where fritz practiced law before beginning his real estate career. After the family moved to Dallas, the three Duda daughters – Leigh Ann ’81, Lendy ’82, and Lindsey ’01 – graduated from Ursuline Academy; the three sons – fritz, Jr. ’83, Jim ’84 and Michael ’00 – graduated from Jesuit. All the Duda children pursued high educational goals at major universities. The Dudas have 12 grandchildren. W
