On Monday, Matthew Barnes, Deputy Director of Standards
from CAST will be spending the day with us. He is looking forward to visiting classes,
looking at books and speaking to the children about their
learning.
It was great to see so many parents at Parents’ Evening this week and hopefully you all had useful, informative and positive feedback from your child(ren)’s teachers. The targets that were shared will be a great way for you to support your child’s
learning in ways that will really make a difference to their progress. Please make sure you ask the teachers for any further support that you might want/need as they are all very keen to help and support you. What has been lovely this week is the
huge ‘learning BUZZ’ that can be felt where ever I go in the school. Overhearing conversations about books and reading between 6 year olds in the library or listening to the well thought out mathematical reasoning of our Year 6 mathematicians are just two examples I experienced today and they made my heart skip a beat. Your children are enjoying their learning so
much and we are so proud of them, as I am sure you are! Mrs Gill

Our Catholic Life Thank you so much for your contributions to CAFOD for Lent Fast Day 2019. CAFOD helps people like Mahinur. Mahinur lives by a river with her husband Khalek and 12-year-old son Rabiul, who both have disabilities. She relies on fishing in the river to support her family, but last year it dried up and all the fish died. The fish have not returned. Some days the family just drink water for dinner. This is not right. God has given enough resources on this planet for everyone. No one should go hungry. The good news is that CAFOD is part of the global Church network that reaches to the ends of the earth. We already know where Mahinur is. We know she needs help. And we know how to help. But the reality is that we are forced to turn away one in three requests for help, because we simply do not have enough money to go around. Mahinur’s family is currently part of that one in three. That’s why your help is so vital.
Efforts by people and schools like us make a real difference. Contributions last Lent were doubled by the UK government. As a result, new nutrition projects in Zimbabwe, Eritrea and Zambia have begun. CAFOD are on track to support 239,000 people by the end of 2021. Taking the give it up challenge can be simple - click here.
Fairtrade Fortnight Celebration Last Friday, the whole school celebrated Fairtrade Fortnight with a Fairtrade party and it was wonderful to see the huge turn-out! Thank you for supporting the event and for sharing your enthusiastic feedback with us afterwards. Ensuring that there is a clear purpose to learning is important and a great deal of work goes into planning these celebrations. Sharks celebrated their learning about cocoa production in Guatemala. During their learning experience, they
identified the countries of the world, who take an active part in Fairtrade and also considered how cocoa farmers benefit from Fairtrade bonuses. They learnt about the cocoa supply chain from 'Cocoa bean to chocolate' and wrote a persuasive letter to encourage governments to embrace Fairtrade. A lot of Fairtrade chocolate (and bananas) was/were eaten, which was yummy! The children now have a greater understanding of why cocoa farmers should be entitled to a living wage; that children have the right to good education; and access to clean water is essential. The key intent of our curriculum is that our pupils ‘make a difference’. By raising their awareness of these issues and exploring our shared responsibilities, our children will have the knowledge and understanding they need in order to make the world a better place.
RED NOSE DAY -Well done everyone for wearing red today - there were lots of red

The Guardian Group were so pleased with so
many different aspects of all the designs that they have
decided to combine them into one final design.
Dear Jesus, you changed at the top of the mountain. Your disciples saw your glory. Help me to understand and be changed too. Help me to feel full of love. Amen
