2. MAINTENANCE PRACTICES

A. Wing Attachments

For maintenance practices pertinent to wing attach fittings, see Wing Structure. (Refer to 57-10)

B. Outboard Aileron Hinge - Serials 0002 thru 2437 (See Figure 57-401)

(1) Removal - Outboard Aileron Hinge(a) Acquire necessary tools, equipment, and supplies.

(b) Pull PITOT HEAT circuit breaker. (c) Remove aileron assembly. (Refer to 57-50)(d) If removing LH outboard aileron hinge, disconnect pitot line and pitot heat electrical con-

nector from pitot tube assembly. (Refer to 34-10)(e) Remove bolts and washers securing hinge bracket of outboard aileron hinge to aft shear

web of wing assembly.(f) Use #30 drill bit to drill out rivet securing conduit bracket to conduit tube sheath.(g) Remove bolts and washers securing conduit bracket, outboard aileron hinge, and any

shims to wing assembly.(h) Remove outboard aileron hinge from wing assembly.

(2) Installation - Outboard Aileron Hinge(a) Acquire necessary tools, equipment, and supplies.

(b) Position outboard aileron hinge and any shims into position.(c) Install bolts and washers securing conduit bracket, outboard aileron hinge, and any shims

to rib of wing assembly. Tighten conduit bracket bolts to 20 - 25 in-lb (2.26 - 2.82 Nm).(d) Install bolts and washers securing hinge bracket, and outboard aileron hinge to aft shear

web of wing assembly. Tighten hinge bracket bolts to 50 - 70 in-lb (5.65 - 7.91 Nm).(e) Secure conduit bracket on outboard aileron hinge to conduit tube sheath with rivet.(f) If installing LH outboard aileron hinge, connect pitot line and pitot heat electrical connector

to pitot tube assembly. (Refer to 34-10)(g) Reset PITOT HEAT circuit breaker.(h) If LH outboard aileron hinge was installed, perform Functional Test - Pitot Plumbing Sys-

tem. (Refer to 34-10)(i) If LH outboard aileron hinge was installed, perform Operational Test - Pitot Heat. (Refer to

34-10)(j) Install aileron assembly. (Refer to 57-50)

(3) Inspection/Check - Outboard Aileron Hinge Shimming

EFFECTIVITY:

(a) Acquire necessary tools, equipment, and supplies.

(b) Remove aileron assembly. (Refer to 57-50)(c) Remove bolts and washers securing conduit bracket, outboard aileron hinge, and any

shims to rib of wing assembly.

Note: Up to two tapered shims may be required to obtain allowable tolerance.

(d) Align shim(s) such that thickest edge of shim(s) are oriented forward and position shim(s) to conduit bracket installation area on rib of wing assembly.

CAUTION: Shimming may require longer grip bolts. If so, call Cirrus Design Customer Service.

(e) Install bolts and washers securing conduit bracket, outboard aileron hinge, and any shims to rib of wing assembly. Tighten conduit bracket bolts to 20 - 25 in-lb (2.26 - 2.82 Nm).

(f) Install aileron assembly. (Refer to 57-50)

(1) Removal - Inboard Aileron Hinge(a) Remove aileron assembly. (Refer to 57-50)(b) Remove aileron actuation pulley from pulley bracket on wing assembly. (Refer to 27-10)(c) Remove bolts, washers, and nuts securing pulley bracket and inboard aileron hinge to

wing assembly.(d) Remove inboard aileron hinge from wing assembly.

(2) Installation - Inboard Aileron Hinge(a) Position inboard aileron hinge and pulley bracket to wing assembly and secure with bolts,

(1) Removal - Outboard Flap Hinge Assembly(a) Drain fuel tank. (Refer to 12-10)(b) Remove wing access panel LW8 and LW10 or RW8 and RW10. (Refer to 06-00)(c) Remove aileron assembly. (Refer to 57-50) (d) Remove flap assembly. (Refer to 57-50)(e) Remove inboard aileron hinge. (Refer to 57-40)(f) Remove bolts, washers, and nuts securing flap hinge to aft shear web of wing assembly.

Remove flap hinge from airplane.(2) Installation - Outboard Flap Hinge Assembly

(a) Acquire necessary tools, equipment, and supplies.

Note: Wet install inboard bolts with bolt heads facing forward. (Refer to 20-10)

(b) Position flap hinge to aft shear web of wing assembly and secure with bolts, washers, and nuts.

(c) Visually inspect hinge is flush with aft shear web. Verify maximum gap of 0.005 inch (0.127 mm) does not occur over more than 40% of mating surface.

(d) Install inboard aileron hinge. (Refer to 57-40)(e) Install flap assembly. (Refer to 57-50)(f) Install aileron assembly. (Refer to 57-50)(g) Install wing access panel LW8 and LW10 or RW8 and RW10. (Refer to 06-00)(h) Replenish fuel tank. (Refer to 12-10)

G. Mid Flap Hinge Assembly - Serials 0002 thru 2437 (See Figure 57-401)

(1) Removal - Mid Flap Hinge Assembly(a) Remove aileron assembly. (Refer to 57-50) (b) Remove flap assembly. (Refer to 57-50)(c) Remove bolts, washers, and nuts securing conduit bracket and fairlead clip to brackets.(d) Remove mid flap hinge from wing assembly.

(2) Disassembly - Mid Flap Hinge Assembly(a) Remove retaining ring from fairlead on mid flap hinge.(b) Slide fairlead from mid flap hinge.(c) Remove bolts, washers, and nuts securing hinge brackets and backing plates to wing

assembly.(d) Remove retaining ring from conduit bracket.(e) Slide fairlead from fairlead clip and conduit bracket.(f) Remove screw securing clamp to conduit bracket.

(3) Assembly - Mid Flap Hinge Assembly(a) Install screw securing clamp to conduit bracket.(b) Install fairlead to outboard side of fairlead clip and conduit bracket.(c) Install retaining ring securing fairlead clip to conduit bracket.(d) Install bolts, washers, and nuts securing hinge brackets and backing plates to wing

assembly.(e) Install fairlead to outboard side of mid flap hinge.(f) Install retaining ring securing fairlead to mid flap hinge.

(4) Installation - Mid Flap Hinge Assembly(a) Position mid flap hinge and brackets to wing assembly.(b) Install bolts, washers, and nuts securing conduit bracket and fairlead clip to brackets.(c) Install flap assembly. (Refer to 57-50)(d) Install aileron assembly. (Refer to 57-50)

(4) Installation - Inboard Flap Hinge Assembly(a) Position inboard flap hinge to outboard side of bracket.(b) Install bolts, washers, and nuts securing conduit bracket and fairlead clip to bracket and

inboard flap hinge.(c) Install flap assembly. (Refer to 57-50)(d) Install aileron assembly. (Refer to 57-50)

EFFECTIVITY:

K. Lower Landing Gear Attach Bracket - Serials 0002 thru 2437 (See Figure 57-401)

(1) Removal - Lower Landing Gear Attach Bracket(a) Acquire necessary tools, equipment, and supplies.

(b) Remove main gear fairings. (Refer to 32-10)(c) Raise airplane on jacks. (Refer to 07-10)

CAUTION: When strut clamp is removed, exercise caution to prevent strut assembly from coming into contact with wing skin.

(d) At main gear assembly, remove clamp securing strut assembly to canted rib. (Refer to 32-10)

(e) Allow strut assembly to swing gently downward.(f) Install slide hammer to female-to-female threaded adapter. Attach 0.375 inch (0.953 cm)

female end of adapter to one of the lower attach bracket bolts.

CAUTION: Use care to not delaminate wing skin when removing bracket assembly.

(g) Use sharp, rapid movements with slide hammer until end of bracket assembly is loosened from wing skin.

(h) Detach slide hammer assembly from bolt and repeat on opposite bolt. Alternate as neces-sary until bracket becomes detached from wing skin.

(i) Remove the lower gear attach bracket bolts and washers. Remove lower attach bracket.(2) Installation - Lower Landing Gear Attach Bracket

(a) Acquire necessary tools, equipment, and supplies.

(b) Remove existing liquid shim material.(c) Solvent clean attach bracket with isopropyl alcohol. (Refer to 20-30)(d) Apply release agent (Frekote NC700 or release tape) to inner surfaces of attach bracket.(e) Prepare liquid shim. (Refer to 51-30)(f) Inject a 0.375 inch (9.50 mm) wide bead of liquid shim across the entire width (inner sur-

face) of the attach bracket.

CAUTION: Do not torque attach bracket bolts to final torque value of 60 in-lb (6.8 Nm) plus drag torque until after the liquid shim has fully cured. If bolts are torqued before liquid shim is allowed to fully cure, the attach bracket may become deformed and allow the bolts to become improperly torqued after liquid shim has fully cured.

(g) Slide attach bracket up into position and loosely secure bolts and washers until fitting is properly seated.

(h) Allow liquid shim to post-cure. (Refer to 51-20)(i) Final torque bolts to 60 in-lb (6.8 Nm) plus drag torque.(j) At main gear assembly, install clamp securing strut assembly to canted rib. (Refer to 32-

10)(k) Install main gear fairings. (Refer to 32-10)
