    Eurodesk Ireland

Eurodesk Ireland was actively involved in ‘Time to Move?’, and supported our local multipliers to take this chance to make young people aware of opportunities in Europe.

In September 2014 we organised a preparatory Eurodesk Ireland network meeting in Dublin to plan activities at local level. We produced special promotional wristbands with the ‘Time to Move?’ logo and the Eurodesk website address. We had a great response from our network members and lots of events were held across the country.

Youth Information Centre (YIC) Kildare in Naas transformed their premises into

a ‘Time to Move?’ Information Centre. Students from four secondary schools and

Youthreach in Naas visited the centre during the week and received information on mobility

opportunities in Europe. Watch their video of the event here.

Roscommon YIC in Ballaghaderreen hosted a ‘Studying in Europe’ campaign on 16 October, which was attended by 160 secondary school students. Workshop topics included how to apply to colleges; how to get the best from your CV and cover letter; and applying for a student travel card. Students also received information on studying in Europe, including fee structure; the points system; college ratings; and courses delivered in English. The organisers had a great response from students and their accompanying teachers, and were asked to visit some schools to present further information in the future.

YIC Clondalkin promoted the European Voluntary Service and the European Youth Portal to students and young people at the Tallaght Volunteer Fair and the Tallaght ‘More Options’ event.

YIC Waterford held an information display on European Mobility in their Youth Cafe

and Youth Information Centre. It was seen by Youth Information workers, members of youth

groups and drop-in visitors during the week. An Information Session providing information on

education, travel and summer jobs in Europe took place on 14 October and twenty young people

joined in. On 16 October there was a short quiz for young people on European capitals. The winners

received special ‘Time to Move?’ wristbands.

Finally, YIC Thurles and Tipperary organised talks and presentations on EVS and Eurodesk. They also held a European Quiz and an intercultural evening in local youth cafes and clubs.

All youth information centres also promoted the Europe Direct Soapbox competition “Internet does more harm than good”, and encouraged young people to take part in it.
