Voting Rights

People who are 18 and older can vote Women can vote but they had to be

over 18 Someone who runs for president has

to be natural born in the USA citizen They have to be a least 35 years old

To be a candidate must have a lot of money

Most citizen expect good character of the person

Their campaigns have to be successful.

Civic Participation

• Only males that are freed and citizens could participate in the government.

• They also had to have parents born in Athens.

• The Athenian assembly held 6,000 citizens and they decided most of the issues in Athens.

• Slaves and foreigners were banned from participating in the government.

Civic Participation 2 • People must have money and time to

participate in the democracy.• Men were paid a small amount of

money for participating in the government.

• The elected person had to served for one year.

Comparing Athens and USA government

• Women and children could not vote in Athens but as long as your 18 you can vote in the United States.

• Foreigners could not vote in the US which is the same in Athens.

• The president served for 1 year in Ancient Athens but in the US the president was in office for 4 years.

• In Athens the people must have time and money to participate in the democracy.

• In the USA people must have time to participate in the government but they don't need money.

• The United states was like Athens at one point but in July of 1920 women were allowed to vote for who runs for office.
