Prepare to be transported to an iconic, exciting, and unbelievably entertaining era when Arts Club Theatre Company transforms Chilliwack Cultural Centre into the ultimate 50s jukebox with Red Rock Diner on November 6, 2015! Channeling the inimitable energy of a time when Elvis and Buddy Holly ruled the airwaves, Vancouver’s vibrant spirit was blossoming into life, and a young DJ named Red Robinson was bringing it all together, Red Rock Diner is the ultimate union of larger-than-life musical theatre, unforgettable hit songs, and a delightful sense of nostalgia – buy your tickets to relive the excitement today!

There was a truly unique atmosphere to the 50s – the changing face of popular music, the unmistakable fashion, and a belief that anything seemed possible. Red Rock Diner harnesses all of this exhilaration and projects it to the stage in a way that only musical theatre can – through the captivating combination of swinging song, dynamic dance, and unbridled energy! “Red Rock Diner is a fantastic musical revue that captures the energy of the young people in the 50s”, says Arts Club Theatre Company’s Artistic Managing Director Bill Millerd. “The music from that time is terrifically engaging and energizing, and the show celebrates both that and the DJ era of that time – and in particular Vancouver’s Red Robinson, who was the epitome of the 50s and 60s DJs.”

Playing the archetypal Red will be the amazing Jesse Martyn, who will fill Red’s shoes by airing the definitive 50s hit playlist, complete with ‘Jailhouse Rock’, ‘Great Balls of Fire’, ‘Diana’, ‘Crying’ and many more – providing a fantastic musical backdrop that narrates five teens’ coming of age. You’ll be in awe as an extraordinarily talented cast sing and dance their way through a show that recalls Red’s early years on the air, mixing songs and scenes from the 50s with authentic commentary from Canada’s best loved DJ to produce a delightfully whimsical and unbelievably charming experience. With his insatiably upbeat personality, youthful passion, and carefree character, Red Robinson captured the essence of the 50s

– and with his array of timeless (and often mischievous!) anecdotes, there could be no better figure to form the centre-piece of an action-packed reliving of this electrifying musical era!

Like other artists around the world, the Wednesday Evening

Life Drawing Group at The Centre get together and draw the human body from life models. When the

sessions ends they take these drawings home where they end up packed away in drawers, attics and

basements. This exhibition aims to display these works, mounting a group of figure drawings that

are the personal investigation of the undraped figure, showcasing the beautiful and intimate works created by artists who come to

draw at The Centre.
