2 Community and Justice Work: $5.4 million—19% of Mission & Service ($1.2 million in direct grants)

Mission & Service supports ministries that heal, advocate, and provide housing, employment training, mental health treatment, and pastoral care to Canadians living on the margins.

4 Faith Formation: $4.9 million—18% of Mission & Service ($0.3 million in direct grants)

Mission & Service supports programs that strengthen discipleship and develop active lay leadership. This includes United Church camps, youth and young adult programming, and UCW gatherings.

Mission & Service supports 79 global partners on urgent issues—including, food, water, health, education, and human rights initiatives—that affect people’s daily lives.

3 Theological Education and Vocation of Ministry Support: $1.7 million—6% of Mission & Service ($1.2 million in direct grants)

Mission & Service–funded programs educate and equip future leaders for the church that we are becoming. This includes recruiting new ministers, funding for theological schools and education centres, and providing student education bursaries and continuing education for ministry personnel.

Generosity Funds Vital Mission & Service• The pie chart below shows how generosity supports six program areas of Mission & Service• All Mission & Service giving is applied entirely to these six program areas• Expenditures in the six program areas include direct grants and program costs (including program staff).

Support services required for program delivery include finance, information technology, human resources, and communications.

5 Support to Local Ministries: $6.2 million—22% of Mission & Service ($1.5 million in direct grants)

Mission & Service gives financial and programming support to congregations as they transition in ministry, assist ministers in remote communities, or experiment with new ministries. This includes pastoral relations and ongoing support to ministers and communities of faith; mission support grants for congregations; and renewal and new ministry support through the EDGE Network and the Embracing the Spirit program, which provides grants, coaches, and mentors. Now in its fourth year, Embracing the Spirit is receiving more requests for grants as well as stories of how grant recipients have flourished.

6 National Indigenous Church: $4.8 million—17% of Mission & Service ($1.9 million in direct grants)

Mission & Service supports programs of The Healing Fund and the Justice and Reconciliation Fund as well as advocacy within the Canadian community and justice work, support of Indigenous communities of faith, and nurturing of the faith formation relationship of Indigenous youth and settlers as we all work together to live in right relations.

General Council Governance and Shared Leadership: $5.4 million, funded from other revenue and draw on reserves

Gifts to Mission & Service will continue to not fund governance and shared services. The governance and leadership costs were previously shown in pie charts as funded by investment and other income, including deficit financing, not by Mission & Service. Now with the new assessment formula, governance and shared services are funded by assessments.

Pension and Group Health Insurance Services: $2.7 million, self-funded

Gifts to Mission & Service will also continue to not fund pension and group health insurance services, as participants in the pension and group health insurance programs fully fund these programs.
