EDITORIAL COLUMN

Esteemed readers: We have immense pleasure to bring out the Second issue of the Astro journal ASTROVISION. There has been overwhelming response to the maiden issue from esteemed readers and respected personalities. All the views and opinions have been considered by the Editorial Board, and they will be implemented at appropriate period, taking into cognizance the various viable options. The last issue had very good articles / write ups written by eminent astro-analysts in various matters including natal cases, stock market astrology, mundane astrology, general astro principles. Many of the articles were received as thought-provoking. More and More Astro practitioners and analysts have promised to contribute in more than one way to ASTROVISION. The journal has been circulated to more than 700 persons, which is quite satisfactory at the platform of its maiden attempt. Some readers have also requested for the subscription charges. This year, i..e., 2008, is celebrated as the birth Centenary year of beloved Guruji Jyothish Marthand, Prof K>S. Krishnamirti, the propounder of KP System. While ASTROVISION places its reverence at the feet of Guuji, shall always endeavour to propogate KP System with seal and enthusiasm through various media. While ASTROVISION shall strive to be amongst the current events, the nagging issue of Sethusamudram project is going on in the air Hindus believe was created by Lord Rama. The readers get an opportunity to see in this issue the photograph of Sethusamudram released by NASA. Readers are aware that Lord Shri Ram and the vanar sena (monkey army), as illustrated in Epic Ramayana, had built a bridge between Dhanushkodi in India to Talaimannar in Sri Lanka is made of chain of shoals, c.18 mi (30 km) long. However, NASA has named the dilapidated bridge as Adam’s bridge, which is deplorable from the Indian point of view.

The $550 million project, aimed at cutting up to 30 hours from the time it takes ships to travel between the Bay of Bengal and the western coasts, was approved by the Central government in 2005. The Supreme Court is expected to rule early this year on challenges to the project.

Meanwhile, thousands of people protested recently against plans to dredge a new shipping channel off Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu, arguing the project would damage a so-called “marine formation,” which

GSLV, A SUCCESS? – KP ANALYSIS REPORT There was a news item which stated that the Geo-synchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV) is designed to place satellites in Geo-Synchronous Transfer Orbit (GTO) is going to be launched from Sriharikota as per the below news item appeared in the media:

QUOTE NEWS ITEM

Sunday, September 2, 2007 (New Delhi) The launch of largest and most sophisticated rocket, the Geo-Stationary Launch Vehicle or the GSLV, has been delayed at the very last minute by over an hour. The countdown to the launch was well underway, when it suddenly stopped 15 seconds before take off. Scientists at ISRO are trying now to fix the problem. The launch of Insat-4CR was initially scheduled for 4.21 pm. The last attempt to launch the satellite Insat-4C on July 2006 had failed. The Indian space community has been on tenterhooks as the country prepared for the first launch of the GSLV after its failure last summer. In its fifth flight the Rs.200 Crore mission will place a communications satellite in orbit that will help boost direct-to-home television broadcasts.

UNQUOTE Having got curious to know as to what could be the fate of the launching of the prestigious GSLV by the Indian Scientists from Sriharikota, accordingly took out a horary chart which is appended below:

Airy Sign. It will show the sky. According to Kalapurushathatwa, 3rd House matters significations like Communications, information, travel, transports etc. Moon: Posited in the 10th house. Tenth house will indicate name, name and success. Moon is the ascendant cusp sub lord. Hence the event, whatever it is, may happen very quickly or fast. Moon is posited in the star of Venus (Dasa lord & 5th Cusp Sub lord). 5th cusp signifies happiness + enjoyment + participation of the event, etc. Dasha Lord: Venus is under control of Mercury + Mars having placed in Mercury star and Mars sub. Mercury is connected as a Bhava Star lord of 2 + 6 + 10 and Mars is 11th cusp sub lord. Hence, the Lagna Cusp Sublord Mon is strongly connected 5 + 2 + 6 + 10 +11. We need the houses of 1, 5, 6, 11. No need of worry about retrograde motion of Venus. He is favourating the event. Bhukti Lord: Jupiter 1 + 5 + 9 Bhava star, he is not connected as cusp Sub lord. He is the under control of Mars. Who is the 11th cusp sub lord. And Merc 2 + 6 + 10 Bstl. Jupiter also favouring the Dasalord showing the Events.

Antara Lord: Sun 7 + 11th Bstl . He is not connected as a Csbl. And he posited in the Star of Ven + Ven .We have already seen the 5th house connection. Both DL + BL + AL Making the event to successfully launch the Space Vehicle GSLV. Now, we have to take care about the SOOKSUMA LORD. Whether Sookshma Lord is going to allow the event today successfully? Saturn is the sooksumsa lord (for 2 days). Generally Astrologers consider Saturn as the DELAY MASTER, but will not deny. Eventually, Saturn will provide success of the event. Sookshma Lord: Saturn is connected as a csbl of 3 + 6 + 9 + 12. his star lord of Ketu , who is posited in 2nd house . Ketu is negating the 3rd House matter. Because the 2nd is 12th House of 3rd. 3rd house will denote supply of the Wiring systems in the Engine side and the 2nd house will denote supply of fuel ie Power. Present Jupiter bhukti is upto 10.23 Am to 13.20 Pm. Sat is upto 13.20 Pm to 16.50 Pm. Next Mercury Bhukti 16.50 Pm to 19.58 Pm. Hence , the GSLV should be Launced in delay, and Mercury bhukti will hope to Make success of Event.Because he posited in the 3rd house. RESULTS: Finally the Scientists made some delay, due to some problems. And launched the Vehicle at 18.21 Pm.On 02 – 09 – 2007, from Shriharikota. Ven + Merc + Mo. DBA at 18.21 Pm and the Lagna is passing throu Kumba in the Star of Rahu, Sub of Merc and Ssub of Sat (11th 14 d 12 m 50 s ). NOTE: The Scientists announced that the event will be going to be postponed to 2 days. Saturn’s Sooksuma period of 2 days are left. But the delay is taken only 2 hours. Actullay this event planned at 16.21 p.m. See the Game of the Planets.

ANOTHER MAGIC OF RULING PLANETS

It was about 11:00 PM in the night and my son did not return back from University. Upon enquiry, my wife said, he had some planned Bio Mechanics Lab and she mentioned that he will return home very late. I thought for a second and said to my self "Let me find out when He will return back using our esteemed KP's Ruling Planets ". So I casted a Time chart with a desire to find out "When my son will return back from University?". The Time Chart details are: Date: October 3, 2007 Time: 23:37:15 Time Zone: 5:00:00 (West of GMT) Place: 93 W 20' 59", 44 N 53' 23" Edina, Minnesota, USA 1) The Ruling Planets are ( based on KPAstro Ver 2.7) : Lagna : Sign and Star Lords are Merc and Rahu. Mon : Sign and Star Lords are Merc and Jup. Day Lord : Merc. 2) Mon is placed in Lagna and no other planet aspecting Mon or Lagna. So Mon is having strong signification. 3) Here Rahu is the star lord of Merc hence Rahu is strong and represents Merc. 4) The final Ruling Planets are: Mon, Rahu and Jup 5) So when the Lagna transits in to Mon-Jup-Rahu (Sign-Star-Sub) the event must take place, because those are the three points touched by Lagna in the zodiac first from this point of time.

Page 10: Astrovision eMagazine Feb 2008

ASTROVISION ASTROVISION ASTROVISION ASTROVISION ISSUE # 2 ISSUE # 2 ISSUE # 2 ISSUE # 2 FEBRUARY 2008 FEBRUARY 2008 FEBRUARY 2008 FEBRUARY 2008

Page #10 / 83

6) When I looked at the Lagna transits, the Lagna is transiting into Mon-Jup-Rahu at 0:41:27 AM on Oct 4th 2007, so the event has to fructify only after this time. 6) I thought of doing a bit more refinement and narrow the time using the other planets involved along with the Ruling planets such as Merc. (we have taken Rahu as representation of Merc before). So when I looked at the transits, the Lagna is transiting into Mon-Jup-Rahu-Merc at 0:45:57 AM on Oct 4th 2007. So boldly I have predicted that my Son will return home after 0:45:57 AM and patiently waiting for him to come back. My son returned home at 0:48:28 AM (Mon-Jup-Rahu-Ven) on Oct 4th 2007 which is about 2 minutes after my prediction. I could not understand how Ven Sookshma had given the result and I need to still learn on how to fine tune the timing up to minutes and seconds yet. When I showed this timing to my Son, he said “Wow… Dad!”. I simply said to him, all the credit goes to the KP Principles by Late Sri KS KrishnaMorthi Ji which are taught to me by my KP Guru Sri Swami Omkar Ji. Also all the credit goes to my mother Mahaalaskhmi and with her blessings only I could think properly and apply the Jyotish principles correctly.

Sarvam Sri Mahaalaskhmi Arpanamastu.

4) If the 7th CSL is in the star of a planet connected to 5,8,12 the native is like to be cheated.

The description of the article stolen is defined as under:-- Nature of article stolen will be revealed by study of 8th lord, its star and sub lord.

Su copper, coral, currency, gold bonds, pearls. Mon Silver, Nickel, diamond, all white stones. Mars Copper, iron, steel, coral, red stones, Ruby. Mercury Lead, communications items. Jupiter Gold and silver ornaments. Venus Textiles, fancy goods, garments, items of

frequent use like radio, fan, watch, etc. Saturn Iron, Cement, leather.

For analysis of lost article or theft under query is as under:

1) 7th house lord is the indicating (a) thief. 7th sub lord is Jupiter, a male planet. Hence the thief is a male person.

2) 7th cusp sub lord is Jupiter- shows thief is a middle aged person. 3) Jupiter is lord of the 6th house indicating that the thief should be servant. 4) 8th house is 2nd to 7th. Its sub lord is Mercury. So it is guessed that the article

lost is a cell phone since Mercury stands for communications. 5) The rules for recovery of the lost article is as under: a) If the 2nd CSL should be connected to 2nd or 6th or 11th houses, the lost article

will be recovered in their conjoined period. b) The ruling planet should signify 2, 6, 11. c) The present DBA should agree with 2,6,11 houses.

In the case under study, 2nd Cusp sub lord Jupiter is in the star and sub of Mercury, who is lord of 12 and is posited in 12th house. Dasha lord Mercury is strong significator of 8 and 12. Bhukti lord Venus is strong significator of 8 and 12. All the planets are connected to 5, 8, 12, the property lost is lost once for all. Accordingly the prediction is revealed to the querient.

Will cine glamour work out in Political success? An astrological enquiry through Krishnamurti Padhathi

With my humble salutations to Uchista Maha Ganapathi and venerable soul of Guruji Sri K.S.K. I attempt to view how success in film field elevates one in Political field too. The chart taken up for discussion is of the illustrious and celebrity South Indian film Mega Star and former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Late Dr. N.T. Rama Rao, born on 28-May-1923 at 16.16 hours Nimmakuru (Near Gudivada), A.P. (Birth star Swathi-4p). VI 14-50 VII 13-04

To quote “If the sub lord of the V cusp is deposited in a constellation of planet who is signification of the houses 5, 6 and 10 one can be a popular actor. If it is also the signification of 11th, then one will be prosperous”. (KP Reader VI page 192). Planets Venus and Mercury provide essential skills and Mars makes one a leader in the field. “If the sub lord of the 11th cusp is in the constellation of the planet who is significator of the 9th, 10th and 11th and also in any manner connected with Mars and Jupiter one will achieve “desired position in the political field”. (KP Reader VI page 321). Planets Jupiter, Mercury, Mars and Sun provide with the required qualities to enjoy power. Service to people is motivated by Saturn and his good disposition, Vth cusp plays a vital role in deciding the prosperity either in films or in politics and to become a leader, intervention of Mars is essential. Bhavas 5,6,10 and 11 and their connection to the respective cusps i.e. V & XI promises one to enjoy success in cine field as well as politics. In the horoscope chart of Dr. N.T. Rama Rao, appended above, the following combinations may be perused. V Cusp sub lord is Mercury. Mercury is in the Star of Moon, who is lord of 10 and is posited in 1. Moon is strong significator of 11th house. Mercury is in the sub of Jupiter, a significator of the houses 1, 3, 6, &11. Lagna is owned by Venus accommodating Moon and Jupiter and having Leo the natural Vth house as house of Success (11th house). This speaks volumes about his success in multiple activities in the film line. XI cusp lord is Sun. There are no occupants in the stars of Sun. So Sun is powerful to give his results. Sun is significator of 1,8,10 and 11. The XI sub lord is Venus

Venus is in her own star and sub Venus carries her 11th signification by virtue of her being the star and sub lord of the 11th cusp. Further, Venus is posited in a sign owned by Mars. Venus is receipt of aspect from Jupiter and Moon. In terms of 8th signification to the 11th cusp his entry in politics is a sudden event. And it landed him in opposition too.

ROLE OF BADHAKA GRAHA It is very interesting to know the role enacted by “Badhaka” planet in the horoscope charts. I would like to share some of my experiences in analyzing the role of Badhaka. In KP system although the effects of Badhaka planet is attributed mostly to MARAKA, it is very surprising and unfortunately very painful to note that the Badhaka is having adverse and ill effects on almost every bhava, especially on health, finance and profession. In this regard although arguments / differences may arise among the KP practitioners and readers on the effects of Badhaka, I would like to discuss and share my thoughts through this article while thanking to My Guru Late Dr. Satyam garu for his continuous look out for the HIDDEN punch delivered by Badhaka while analyzing so many charts. As very well identified & explained by Guruji KSK we all know the badhaka lords, which is given the table below:

Sign Rashi

character

Badhaka

Aries Moveable 11th cusp lord Taurus Fixed 09th cusp lord Gemini Dual 07th cusp lord Cancer Moveable 11th cusp lord Leo Fixed 09th cusp lord Virgo Dual 07th cusp lord Libra Moveable 11th cusp lord Scorpio Fixed 09th cusp lord Sagittarius Dual 07th cusp lord

Capricorn Moveable 11th cusp lord Aquarius Fixed 09th cusp lord Pisces Dual 07th cusp lord

(Moveable=Chara, Fixed=Sthira, Dual=Dwi swabhava)

One has to uderstand that in KALI YUGA those planets as being the lords of 7th, 9th, 11th to the respective Janma lagnas shall execute a special role of Badhaka, over and above the basic & normal portfolios as significators, as star lord or sub lord or any whatsoever role as depicted in our KP or Traditional system. The ill / worrying / adverse effects of Badhaka are that it definitely spoils, reduces and at times when aided by any other bad or culprit or malefic combinations can also deny the final result even if it is fruitfully promised under normal rules and conditions . What my Guruji very categorically kept on insisting that the following are the hierarchy of severities of ill effects of Badhaka in the horoscopes:-

Page 19: Astrovision eMagazine Feb 2008

The Badhaka planet becomes the sub lord of any bhava. The Badhaka planet becomes the star lord of any planet. The Badhaka planet becomes the sub lord of any other planet. The Badhaka planet aspects any planet. The Badhaka planet conjoins any planet. The planet in Badhaka planet’s Rasi . One interesting observation when I have analyzed the charts of individuals is that they do suffer with relations with the opposite persons, especially, if the opposite persons are born in the STARS of their Badhaka planet. The situation becomes naturally miserable, if the opposite persons are especially close kith & kin, business partners or superiors. Also certain default properties of the planets like for e.g., Mercury caters for Nervous system, Moon for psychology, Sun for Government, Mars for accidents / surgeries, etc. gets spoiled / aggravated if they attain the role of BHADHAKA PLANET. Now are there any exceptions to this theory? On observation it is found that The GURU (BRIHASPATI) has certain nullifying effect on BHADHA KATVA i.e., the aspect or conjoining of GURU (BRIHASPATI) on and with BHADHAKA PLANET and BHADHAKA RASI can reduce / nullify the ill effects to a certain to large extent. But for MITHUNA & KANYA lagnas, GURU (BRIHASPATI) himself is BHADHAKA PLANET!! Then what happens? The aspect & conjunction becomes blessing? or worse ? as I have mentioned the original portfolios do not alter but very unfortunately as per my definite understanding the aspect and conjunction of GURU ( as 7TH Lord) for MITHUNA & KANYA lagans is less beneficial. Now as a reference to the discussion, I would present the natal chart (birth time rectified) of my close friend, who is adversely affected by jobless condition continuously and many breaks in jobs in spite of him being a good disciplined hard working person, with reasonable educational qualifications.

Now if we analyze the 10th sub lord who is Ketu conjoined with Sukra and in Sukra Rasi. For this native the BADHAKA is SUKRA being the 9th lord for kubha lagna (STHIRA LAGNA) attains the role of BADHAKA. Since Ketu is a node, the aspect, the conjunction, star & Rasi lords have to be taken into consideration. Unfortunately there is no aspect on Ketu, the conjoined planet and Rasi lord is Sukra himself with 4th & 9th significations. Now the star lord of Ketu is Kuja with 3, 10 and 11 significations, which is very encouraging but the poor guy is really suffering on professional front. So it is clearly evident that Sukra even on Kuja star itself, but with BADHAKA role appears to create very much ill-effect on 10th Sub lord thus depriving happiness in the profession. So what I would like submit and request the practitioners / readers to kindly go through these arguments and try to apply especially for natal charts and formulate the results. I know the debate is wide open but if the same can draw and establish some fruitful and concrete conclusions, I feel justice will be done to my Late Guruji’s efforts and his advice on BADHAKA planet.

It is a well known fact that the lagna indicates the nature of query. So let us see what the lagna says. The Ascendant falls in Capricorn (Makara) in 29 Deg. 54 Min = Saturn / Mars / Saturn as sign lord, star lord and sub lord respectively. Saturn® is not only the occupant of the 5th, but also the owner of the 1st and 12th houses. He is in the star of Mars. No planet in his stars. So he signifies 5,8,1 and 12 strongly and also 3 and 10 feebly starwise and also 8,3, 10 by sub wise. 5th signifies progeny. 8th signifies worries, delay & dejection, disappointments, loss & obstruction, etc. 1st house signifies: Self, vitality and vigour, person asking the question i.e., querient. 12th house signifies: Obstacles and impediments. The 12th house will be the 8th house counted from the 5th house. Thus the nature of the query is well tailed. 2nd house signifies: Expansion of family 5th house signifies: One is capable is producing a child or not. 11th house signifies: It is 5th from the wife, i.e., 7th house. So it reveals that the wife will able to produce child or not. Our master Late Shri KSK’s dictum about progeny is clearly written in horary astrology – 6th Reader in Page no. 192 as follows: “One will be able to produce children, if the following 3 conditions are simultaneously satisfied:-

1) The sub lord of the 5th cusp is not retrograde. 2) It is not posited in the constellation of a retrograde planet, and 3) It is a significator of 2nd or 5th or 11th house.

If any one of these 3 conditions is not satisified, one will not be able to produce a child at all. To judge the time of birth of the child, one has to select the significators of the houses 2,5 and 11 and predict the time during the conjoined period of the significators”. In our horary chart, 5th cuspal sub lord Venus is retrograde and is in the constellation of Rahu, who is the occupant of the 4th which is negation for 5th house. Venus is not all signifying either 2nd or 5th or 11th houses both star wise and sub wise also. 5th lord Mercury himself is a barren planet posited in Virgo, which is a barren sign associated with Mars, who is also a barren sign lord. Next let us discuss about the 11th cusp. 11th cuspal sub lord Moon is in barren sign, Aries, is not retrograde, but is in the constellation of Venus, who is retrograde and also the occupant of 9th house. It signifies 9th strongly and 3,4,6, and 7 feebly through star wise. It is in his own sub. So the 11th cusp sub lord is also not able to produce a child. So immediately I boldly declared that not only the querient but also his wife are not capable for procreation. After listening to my statement, he was astonished for a while and then he told that both he and his wife went and undergone the various medical tests and treatments but of no use of them. This is the miracle of KP. At the end of this article, I would like to convey my salutations to our Guruji Late Prof. K.S. Krishamurti. I would also like to convey my best regards to my KP guruji Shri P.G. Ramamurthy Achar, agent of Uttaradi Mutt, near King market, Kurnool.

MAY GOD ALMIGHTY BLESS ALL OF US.

Mr. VSN Murthy is an ardent follower of KP Astrology, having undergone very good training under KP Guruji Shri P.G. Ramamurthy Achar. Mr. Murthy is an article-contributor to KP Year book too. In this article Mr. Murthy has hit the nail with reference to his stunning analysis through KP horary system, although the analysis was a disappointing factor from the point of view of the querient. God is Great.

Mercury has taken the key position as sub and sub / sub lord of the Moon, the mind. Venus is at the key point of fast moving Asc. There are 182 seats in the Gujarat Assembly and last time BJP had covered around 142 seats. It was sure that it will cross atleast 50% of the total seats this time. So we may check the figure around 90 seats. Since Mercury is at key point, I selected Virgo sign first. Moon is sub lord of Asc. Hence Hasta star owned by Moon is selected. Under Virgo in Hastha there are 112 to 120 numbers as per KP Horary (out of total of 249). So it crossed my mind that BJP will cover 112 to 120 seats. In order to come to the exact figure, I selected Ketu who is star lord of Asc. and the figure was 118 seats. The reply was accordingly given to my friend. There was a second idea in my mind that Rahu was in the sign of Saturn and also aspected by Saturn. So we must not ignore him as a ruling planet. Venus was also at the key point. So Libra zone was also strong and if we select Libra sign / Swathi star it will give figures from 130 to 138. Since Jupiter was sign lord of Moon, I selected the figure 131 and noted this figure too on my record just to watch the actual results. So this way I selected 118 and 131 for BJP seats. I don’t know whether Mercury zone will work or Libra zone, but an honest effort is made to know the number of seats to be won by BJP. In fact I had already declared that Shri Narendra Modi will be continued as CM of Gujarat in one of my previous write ups.

Shri Rawal is a well known figure in KP Astrological field and is a regular contributor to the various forums. Shri Rawal has made a sincere attempt to see as to how many Assembly seats will be won by the ruling BJP in the Gujarat State in the recently concluded elections using KP horary chart drawn at the time of query instead of using a KP horary no. (between 1 to 249). This particular write up was released by Shri Rawal much before the Assembly elections.

WHEN WILL I GET THE JOB?

A woman who was staying in our locality has approached me and informed me that her son is passed Engineering Degree. She wanted to know as to whether her son will get job. I took a horary no. KP rule dictates that “One will get job if the 06th or 10th CSL signifies 2,6,10,11 during d/b/a of sig of 2,6,10,11 and when transits agree”. 06th CSL=Ketu. 02=Ketu is conjoined 2nd lord Mercury in Leo. 06= Ketu is in Venus star and Venus signifies 6nd house. 10=Bhava lord Saturn is in Ketu star and is conjoined Ketu in Leo. 11= Bhava lord Saturn is in Ketu star and is conjoined Ketu in Leo. 10th CSL=Rahu. 02=Rahu is Aquarius and signifies Saturn. 06= Saturn is conjoined Ketu, who is in Venus star and Venus signifies 6nd house. 10=Bhava lord Saturn is in Ketu star and is conjoined Ketu in Leo. 11= Bhava lord Saturn is in Ketu star and is conjoined Ketu in Leo. Hence it clear that the native will get job. As per the horary chart, the qurient now runs Jupiter-Ven-Rahu period upto 23-Oct October. From 24-Oct-2007 Sun will be in Rahu star. Rahu is in 9th cusp, which negates job. Thereafter Jup Antara comes. Hence it was declared to the qurient that Jupiter antara will be favourable for getting a job, since Jupiter signifies 10th and 11th houses. Further it was declared that the querient will get job when Sun transits in the star of Visakha ruled by Jupiter during from 07th to 17th Nov 2007 when Jupiter Dasha, Venus bhukti, Jupiter antara and Venus Sookshma period operates.

However, the native got fairly a good job with 5 figures salary during Jupiter Antara itself, but when Jupiter was in Ketu star and Sun was in Sun star Utharashada during 3rd week of January 2008. The reason for delay of approx two months could be contributed to the fact that 6th CSL Ketu was in the star of Venus.

Dumbness and Deafness – An Astrological purview.

The second house of a horoscope rules over speech and third house rules over hearing. The planet Mercury is the karaka for speech and hearing. Mute signs such as Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces play a major role in hearing and speech for impaired natives. This is apart from the 5th house, which governs the intellect of a person. If these are afflicted, the speech will be unintelligent. Mercury in the 2nd and 5th house from ascendant confers eloquence in language and originality of ideas. Hence any affliction to these houses and also Mercury will cause dumbness and deafness. Nodes also plays major role in this ailment. The following are some of the important astrological rules as per traditional, KP and Nadi methods for defective speech and hearing. Traditional rules When the lord of the 2nd house is connected with lord of the 6th and aspected by Saturn, the native will be dumb. If Mercury is afflicted in the ascendant or in the 7th house the native will be dumb. If the Mercury and lord of the 6th house occupies ascendant the native will be dumb. If the afflicted mercury occupies mute signs Cancer or Scorpio or Pisces then the native will have defective speech Ketu in 2nd that being a mute sign, then the native will have defective speech or stammering. The 3rd and 11th house rules over the right and left ears respectively. Gemini and Virgo Mercury ruled signs cause ear troubles. When lord of the third house connected with lord of the 6th house hearing will be affected. When the 3rd lord is afflicted and connected with 6th or 8th or 12th lords then the person will have defective hearing. If Mercury occupies 4th from Saturn and if the 6th lord occupies either in 6 or 8 or 12 then the native will be deaf. Affliction to Mercury by Sun and Saturn in 3 or 11 then the native will have defective hearing. Rules as per KP system When the Cuspal Sub Lord of 2nd (signifies speech) and 3rd (signifies hearing) are becomes significators of 6,8,12 and if they are connected to mute signs such as Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces then the native will have defective speech and hearing. When the Planet Mercury (karaka for speech and hearing) becomes sublord of 2nd or 3rd and occupies in the constellations of nodes or Mercury’s starlord or sublord occupying mute signs then also the native will have deformity in speech and hearing. Apart from Mercury, Moon when connected with nodes also cause speech and hearing problems.

This is the chart of a native who has got stammering since birth. But as per astrological advice by reciting Vishnu Sahasranamam the intensity of stammering has come down. Analysis as Traditional astrology 2nd lord Jupiter posited in 6th bhava and hemmed between Rahu on one side and Saturn and Mars on other side. Mercury occupying his own house Gemini the 3rd house of kalapurusha conjoined with retro Venus the 8th lord. Ascendant is falling in Rahu-Ketu axis. The bhadaka lord Mars is aspecting 1st and 2nd houses. Saturn, lord of 1 and 12, is posited in 6th aspecting lagna and 3rd house. 3 & 8th lord Venus conjoined with Mercury aspecting Moon the 6th lord Saturn aspect on Sun posited in Taurus the second house of Kalapurusha. As per KP system Ascendent cuspal sub lord Venus (R) conjoined with Mercury posited in Mercury ruled by Gemini sign, the third house of Kalapurusha aspected by Moon the 6th lord. Ascendant cuspal sublord venus posited in the star of Rahu occupant of 6th Mercury posited in Mars star ,lord of 2nd and also a badhaka of this native and aspected by moon lord of 6th . 6th Cuspal sub lord Rahu occupant of 6th. 2nd star lord Kethu posited in badhaka star in 12th 2nd cuspal lord Sun occupying 3rd house that being the 2nd house of Kalapurusha aspected by Saturn lord of 1 and 12 Su in the star of Moon lord of 6th aspecting Mercury and Venus. Sun in the sub of Saturn lord of 1 and 12 aspecting lagna Saturn in the sign/star/sub of Sun the occupant of 3rd and aspected by Saturn himself 3rd cuspal sub lord Saturn lord of 1 and 12 posited in 6th house aspecting Su in 3rd house As per Nadi rules Mercury aspected by Moon who is 5,9 axis (nadi aspect) with nodal Rahu. Mercury who is in 5,9 axis with node Ketu Conclusion: In both the cases all the rules specified above are in 100% tune with but the major difference in Chart 1 where the mute sign is playing a major role whereas in chart 2 mute sign is not involved. Hence the native of chart 2 is not dumb and deaf but having stammering.

JUPITER AND THE ATMAKARAKA

The Jupiter in Vedas: The Vedas, our ancestral documents of divine wisdom, have described Jupiter as Brihaspati, joining two words Brihat (Great) and Pati (Protector) meaning it aptly to be a great protector. In astrology, the Jupiter has been given a place of paramount importance. Jupiter is said to be the lord of Rigveda, the treatise of Vedic religion and norms. Referring to the commentary of the sooktas of Rigveda, The Brihaspati (Jupiter) has been described as the possessor of the qualities of self-control, moral strength and the virtues of greatness. Being addressed as Rituprajat, Jupiter is understood to observe the eternal and universal laws, perhaps, with this reason signifying the ultimate dictate of judiciary ruling the dharma of laws. The satwa guna attributed to Jupiter is in its highest form and is thus indicated to be a Brahmin in caste indicating the excellence of spiritual and moral traits. The various names given to the Jupiter signify the shades of its attributes. Calling it as Brihaspati attributes it as great and as protector. Called as Guru, it symbolizes the high spiritual position it carries with itself. Called as eejya, it points the highest position amongst the wise. The Jupiter in general astrological role: In the astrological context, some of the attributes signified by Jupiter are as follows. Jupiter symbolizes the akash tatwa, which binds all other tatwas, thus, it principally works to harmonise. As a protector, it subtly balances the maleficience of various planetary combinations by its association. The Jupiter primarily signifies the element of dharma and righteousness indicated by the 9th house. Because of this reason, the 9th house of zodiac-Sagittarius is lorded by Jupiter and given the place of the sign of Molatrikona of Jupiter. Being highly enriched by the satwa guna, it symbolizes vedantic knowledge and philosophy. The association of strong and unafflicted Jupiter is necessary to realize the domain of truth and higher perceptions, necessary for a successful astrologer. Jupiter rules the successors in the form of children, grandchildren and shishyas. In this way, it ensures the expansion and continuation of clan. In this respect, Jupiter is called as naisargik putrakaraka. Being the lord of 9th house of the natural zodiac, Jupiter governs the higher education, which lifts one from the level of school curriculum. Symbolic for the orderliness and cosmic law, it does point to the education in the non-technical domain and does point to the studies in the discipline of judiciary.

Jupiter symbolizing the higher wisdom and great coverage of knowledge, it makes one a good author, if it associates with the Mon. Jupiter makes significant impact when be in conjunction with other planets. As an example, when it is with Su, it provides the innermost drive to re-align everything into order and thus very successful administrators are born; when be it with Mon, the higher intellect emerges and the native is the true social leader etc. Noting the fact that the Su provides a natural link between the eternal universal forces from outside to the inside of every creation, its mutual angular placement with Jupiter makes the creative forces very orderly and nourishing. Natives with such combinations are the assets to the society for their philanthropic concerns of reforms. The Su is the karaka of father while the Jupiter is the karaka of children and grandchildren. In broader perspective, The Su provides the genetic link by governing the fatherhood and Jupiter carries it on to the next generation. The study of the placement of Jupiter in relation to the Su bring about the attributes of the hereditary tendencies in the native’s family and its continuance, thus contemplating the various shades of problem areas of the genetic link. Jupiter is phlegmatic in temperament and rules over the fat system in the body. It rules over liver, gall bladder, spleen and pancreas and causes diseases, if afflicted. The Atmakaraka: In contrast to the concept of universal atmakaraka in parasharic doctrine, the definition of atmakaraka is fairly unique in jaimini system of astrology defining it to be the planet assuming the highest sign-wise longitude in a chart. This scheme of selecting the atmakaraka and individualizing to a native falls under the chara-karaka scheme that strongly signifies the karmic patterns of a nativity. The atmakaraka is said to be responsible for the moksha or bandhana of the native through the making of karmas and it is said that if this planet is a benefic under complete benefic influences, it leads the native to the path of moksha whereas the karmic bandhana is evident if the atmakaraka is either a malefic planet or be influenced by the malefics. Here, the important derivative point is that the atmakaraka among the chara-karaka scheme identifies itself to be a planet bearing the highest principle of life. The atmakaraka does not work alone, just as the king has lesser identity if seen alone. While, the planetary configuration around atmakaraka strongly influences the boundaries of karmic influence to be sailed through prarabdha, the association of some chara-karakas (such as amatyakaraka and putrakaraka) may be important to gauze the recognition, position and honour, in short the rajayogas. The various planetary associations with atmakaraka go in a long way to shape the innate traits of the personality of a native, which becomes instrumental to shape the prarabdha karmas. There is a caution in dealing with the study of atmakaraka. The atmakaraka is the planet signifying the soul and thus it draws the ultimate boundaries within which the prarabdha is operable. Thus, the planetary afflictions to the atmakaraka draw limitations to the prarabdha. The Jupiter in the role of Atmakaraka:

Since, the atmakaraka indicate the innate shade of personality, the Jupiter in this role makes a native conscious to self-morale, self-discipline and wisdom driven by the higher intelligence, as signified by Jupiter. Jupiter is highly respected and given a position of pride as the prime minister of planetary

cabinet. In case, if the Jupiter in the position of atmakaraka is associated with the

amatyakaraka in a chart, the native is driven to dazzling heights of significant career

recognition unless the Jupiter is adversely affected. If these planets jointly influence the 10H,

the native may be in top-notch positions or be on the high recognition, wherever he gets

involved. Similarly, if atmakaraka-Jupiter gets the benefic association of putrakaraka, the

nativity gets immense support of followers to carry on the missions of life, which is

importantly seen in the life of social reformers.

It would be very practical to assume that the natives who have Jupiter as atmakaraka without

affliction would be the guardians who would leave deep impact of their holistic impressions of

wisdom on the generations to follow.

It may carefully be noted that the mere holding of atmakarakaship by Jupiter is not enough to

confer the honour and position, as is expected by Jupiter due to its natural tendencies. It all

depends if Jupiter is unafflicted or is under affliction. The point to be driven here is that if the

Jupiter as atmakaraka is afflicted; it would cause the punishment causing damage to the

position and honour.

The following charts substantiate the said facts. The analysis is offered within the framework

of Jaimini discipline.

Chart-01 : Swami Jayendra Saraswati : July 18, 1935 at 1900 hrs IST, 79E26, 10N42

Atmakarka: Jupiter; Amatyakaraka: Saturn; Putrakaraka: Mon Swami Jayendra Saraswathi Swamigal (born as Subramanyam Mahadeva Iyer) is the 69th Shankaracharya and head or pontiff of the Kanchi matha at Kanchipuram. He was nominated to succeed as the head pontiff of the Kanch matha and was given the title Sri Jayendra Saraswathi on March 22, 1954. Sri Jayendra Saraswathi is one of the leading religious figures in Hinduism. He has been a controversial figure who was arrested on November 11, 2004 and charged by state prosecutors as a conspirator in the murder of an ex-employee of kanchi math. Let us look at the horoscope and identify what brought him the position of a spiritual head, what made him get convicted etc Jupiter as atmakaraka placed in Aries sign in navamsha makes his karakamsha as Aries. Su and Mercury placed in Kendras from karakamsha strengthens his Jupiter. The placement of 4th lord Mon in 8th house in debility and Saturn in 12th house from karakamsha was fair enough to make him a renunciate and a sanyasi. Note the rashi chart, where the atmakaraka-Jupiter is placed in 10th house aspected by the amatyakaraka-Saturn from Aquarius, assuring him a significant position in religion. The placement of Rahu in 12th from Lagna was skeptical for him to cause defamation, as Rahu disposes Jupiter (atmakaraka). More importantly, the putrakaraka Mon falling in 8th from the karakamsha, point some of his follower or a shishya (putrakaraka) being the cause of his defamation (8th house). Since, the putrakaraka-Mon happens to be in debility, the morals of the shishya causing him trouble should be at the minimum. Hence the defamation was destined at the soul level and was essentially to be suffered.

The position as the head of Kanchi Math was conferred to him when he was running the chara dasha of Sagittarius-Aquarius. Looking from the dasha sign of Aquarius, the dasha lord Jupiter was placed in 11th house, aspected by amatyakaraka Saturn operative from the antar-dasha sign. Though, amatyakaraka’s association with the atmakaraka conferred him the position, the position of Saturn in 5th house from atmakaraka-Jupiter did not indicate sMoth sailing of the atmakaraka due to lesser inner harmony. The setback was more visible by the association of 10th lord Mon from atmakaraka with Saturn, clearly pointing out that he was to get into trouble through his own administrative domain, as badhaka-Su gets placed in 10th house from atmakaraka-Jupiter. Thus, Swami Jayendra Saraswati was to fall victim of his position in the boundaries of prarabdha decided by the atmakaraka, which was to be suffered. The axe of disgrace dawned on him when he was running the chara dasha of Pisces-Cancer. It may be noted that from the dasha sign of Pisces, atmakaraka-Jupiter was placed in 8th house of entanglement in shady matters promoted by the Saturn from the 12th house of imprisonment. The sub-dasha of Cancer actually made it happen, as it carries the badhaka Su looked from atmakaraka-Jupiter and Rahu-Ketu axix falling in 12-6th house. The point, which gets evident, is that the planet holding the portfolio of atmakaraka decides the prarabdha and accordingly shades the innate personality of the native. Chart-02: Rabindranath Tagore: 07-05-1861, 0251Hrs IST, Calcutta

Atmakarka: Jupiter; Amatyakaraka: Su; Putrakaraka: Saturn This is the chart of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore; a mystic, visionary, painter, great poet, noble laureate and a social reformer. In the rasi chart, both the atmakaraka-Jupiter and amatyakaraka-Su are exalted and placed in mutual Kendra, conferring a strong rajayoga. As both these planets cause argala to the lagna, the life of Tagore was destined to be remarkable. Tagore was a born poet and an artist par excellence and was very creative and original who had more than 50 volumes of poetries and innumerable number of paintings of original skill to his credit. Look at the atmakaraka-Jupiter, which associates Mon in trines giving a higher authorship skill. In navamsha, the Mercury in trine to atmakaraka-Jupiter further supplements the authorship caliber. Chara dasha of Taurus in 1878 made Tagore to travel to England for higher education. It was atmakaraka-Jupiter, that being placed in 3rd house from the dasha sign and being lord of 9th house from its own position made it happen.

The Scorpio dasha sign was the golden period of his life, when Tagore was awarded the prestigious Noble Prize for his English translation of Geetanjali in 1913. The Scorpio dasha sign falls as the 5th house (awards and recognition) from atmakaraka-Jupiter, which enjoys the argala of 9th lord Mon on it, thereby giving him the lifetime luck. The aspect of amatyakaraka-Su from 6th house (win-over) on the dasha sign is significant as it gave him the competitive edge in favor of the award. The putrakaraka-Saturn placed in 10th house from dasha sign aspected 3rd and 12th house from it, thus bringing the award from outside the land (3-12th house) due to his recognition and popularity (putrakaraka) growing there. The dasha of Scorpio-Aquarius made Tagore to lay foundation of Vishwa-Bharati University in 1917. While, the beneficence of Scorpio sign was in operation, the bhukti sign Aquarius had the presence of the arudha of 4th house (representing the building) having the linkage of both atmakaraka-Jup and amatyakaraka-Su by aspect, giving it the religious and spiritual flavor. Since, Aquarius falls in 12th house to lagna, it caused Tagore to invest a large sum out of his earnings received as award. Conclusion: The Jupiter as a principal protector, symbolic of wisdom and satwa guna in the solar system has a far-reaching impact on the innate personality of every native and provides the ground for upliftment of self respect, wisdom and place of honour. In case, if Jupiter is well placed in a chart in the capacity of atmakaraka, it may be for certain that the native shall have something unique in his personality towards the originality of moral actions, discipline in the moral boundaries, guiding and renovating force for the self and for society. Such natives are the born reformers, who setup the moral examples for the generations to follow. The atmakaraka is a very sensitive and benign planet and while its good placement and benefic influence on it prove to be very holistic, the adverse malefic influences on it equally deteriorate the inner attributes of the native and limit the dimensions of the personality, as the native is mostly driven by such inner driving force in all the actions throughout life. In conclusion, the study of The Jupiter in a chart brings out many important conclusions about a nativity. As atmakaraka, it defines both the blessings and punishments which the soul need to undergo to cleanse the compulsions causing the birth.

What Vedic Astrology is all about?

Vedic astrology is science, which gives scientific results based on placement of the nine planets in any of the twelve houses or bhavaâs in a horoscope. In good old days Rishi Munniâs had divya gyan and complete knowledge of the placement of all the planets through which they could predict and tell everything about the past, present & future of an individual. When a person is born at a particular day, time and place, he is born with his past, present & future. Everybody wants to know about his or her past, present & what his future will be. Even the Demigods were keen to know the same and when they approached Lord Brahma, Brahmaji replied that Demigods could know about their past, present & future through Brahma and the manushya in this universe will know the same through astrology. Our horoscope is our complete Bio Data in reality. God gave us a human form or Shareer, but God said now a person in this human form cannot live alone he needs a family to give him company, so God gave him a family. Now God said that this person needs money/dhan in order to sustain himself He gave him money/dhan. Now in order to grow he needs bothers/sisters/friends/contacts/relatives, so God gave him younger siblings, friends, relatives, contacts. Now with family, money, siblings, and friends man needs some place where he can live, he needs some luxuries of life, so God gave him house & luxuries. In good old days a bullock cart was a luxury & now in present days it a two or four wheeler. Now when he has a house to live he needs intelligence and children for the family to grow. God gave him intelligence and capability to have children. Now when God gave us human form, money, family, siblings, luxuries, intelligence, children God also wanted to ensure that if person has all the comforts of life there will be no difference between hell and heaven so God gave him sufferings in the form of disease and enemies. Now if a person has sufferings he needs someone to look after him and he will also have some kind of lust to enjoy the senses so he gave him a spouse to look after and support and satisfy our lust. God also gave us a certain life span or longevity. Now after getting all these things God gave us our destiny in the form of fortune or bhagya and also gave us spiritual consciousness to remember God. Then God said that manushya has to do some kind of karma or activity to sustain oneself and the family, He gave us various ways of executing our karma by engaging ourselves in working or doing business and that is how we earn money by selecting the profession as either working for someone else(service) or doing our own profession. God also gave us some losses to be borne by us as whatever we do is not 100% beneficial some part of it always goes as waste which is our loss. In astrology we have twelve houses or bhavaâs.

From the first house we see ourselves, from 2nd house we see our family and money/dhan, and from 3rd house we see our siblings, friends, relatives, contacts. From the 4th house we see our luxuries, from 5th house we see our intelligence and our children, from 6th house we see our enemies and our disease state, from 7th house our sexual relationships and our spouse, from 8th house we see our longevity. Our 9th house shows how fortunate we are and our devotional service, from 10th house what kind of karma we will execute, from 11th house how will we earn money by business or working and our 12th house says what will be our losses and up to what extent. There are seven planets and two shadow planets or nodes. Su or Surya is the king of all the planets who is also our father, Mon or Chandra is the queen of all the planets who is also our mother. Mars or Mangal is our defense minister or our physical strength, our younger siblings and our friends.. Mercury or Budh is the Prince of the king and queen and is also our intelligence. Jupiter or Brihaspati is the teacher or Guru will show us our direction, give us knowledge or gyan and also show our prosperity. Venus or Shukra is our greed, lust our sexual relationships, spouse and Saturn or Sani is the servant who will do all the work. Rahu & Ketu are the shadow planets who disguise themselves in the form in which house they sit or with whichever planet & house they sit. Su being king planet will do his task in 6 yrs, Mon in 10 yrs, mars in 7 yrs, mercury in 17 yrs, Jupiter in 16 yrs, Venus in 20 yrs, Saturn in 19 yrs, Rahu in 18yrs & Ketu in 7 yrs. These are our maha dashaâs. This is what Vedic astrology is all about. Our horoscope tells us what are our good times of life our bad times of our life and our sufferings.

HOW I DEVELOPED FAITH IN VAASTU

One of the significant features of modern education is our departure from our own cultural values. We have grown indifferent to our culture. We have totally ignored our vedic literature. We have totally ignored our vedic literature, Sanskrit language, astrology and all its branches written by great ancient Maharishis. I have been one among such educated persons. Although my father was an eminent astrologer, I could not value the importance of astrology and vaastu until I myself experienced the effects and came to realize their importance. I was searching for a rented house some years back. I found a good house with all facilities. I paid the advance to the owner and occupied it the next day. While I was staying in that house for few months, one day a friend of mine came to visit me. He was good at vaastu, but I did not give much importance to it, since the house was good with all facilities. My friend pointed out that the toilet in my house was situated in the north east direction is most inauspicious to the family. But I did not care his comments. One thing was that I was indifferent to the vaastu principles and considered it no more than a superstition than a science and the other was the difficulty for finding another good for rent. Hence I continued to stay in the same house. In the meantime, I found that my wife was not keeping good health and was undergoing treatment. Later my daughter’s marriage was fixed and it was performed with great difficulty. The marriage was over and after a couple of months my daughter returned home and filed for a divorce in the court. It seemed that she was harassed by her husband and the in-laws in that house. The agony and torture was too much for her to bear. Hence she was forced to take divorce. My vaastu friend met me again after the sad incident and advised me to vacate that house before any more tragedy would happen. That was the first time I could not take my friend’s advice more seriously than earlier. I thought there must be some truth in the vaastu principles. I seriously decided to find another house, which is constructed as per the vaastu principles. I succeeded in getting one such house and I shifted into the new house recommended by vaastu friend. While these things were going on I happened to go to one of my close cousins, who was working in UCO Bank. I could notice that there was a septic tank in the South of his house and the open area in the South was a least three times bigger than the area in the north. I felt some doubt and requested my cousin to refer his house to my vaastu friend. At first he also resented the idea of vaastu and told me he is quite happy in that house except for occasional sickness of his wife. But I insisted upon showing to some vaastu pandit. After this I left for Dubai on a foreign assignment. From Dubai I wrote to my cousin and explained once again the suffering of my daughter by having the toilet in the north east direction in my house. My friend wrote back that he cannot vacate the house since that was his own house and would think of making some changes, if it was that important.

Page #46 / 83

Few months passed and one day I got a telephone call saying that my cousin died suddenly due to heart attack. He was nearly 52 years old. That was more tragic than my daughter’s suffering. I then wrote to his son to contact my vaastu friend to know whether the vaastu defect in the south direction was the cause for the death of my cousin. My vaastu friend visited the house and confirmed the fact that there should have been death without any doubt either of my cousin or his wife. After this incident my faith and truth in vaastu principle dawned upon me. I became very sure that we should keep the vaastu principles in our mind while constructing a house or staying in a rented house. Some of my friends argued that both the above incidents may be co-incidental and caused by one reason or the other. But I strongly feel all such argument are only of academic interest and the actual cause for both the tragic incidents is due to vaastu dosha only. Lastly I would request all my friends and educated readers through this article to know the importance of vaastu and astrology. What the ancient rishis have written for our benefits is total truth. Astrology and vaastu are the two branches of our Vedic literature. We are actually ignorant of our own culture and its great treasure hidden in Vedas, Astrology and vaastu. Everything cannot be proved by experimentation in laborartory. We will learn only by experience, if we turn a deaf ear to the teachings of our great rishis. It is better late than never. Let us give a serious through to the science of astrology and vaastu.

MAHA MRUTHYUNJAYA MANTRA

OM THRAYEMBKEM YAJA MAHE

SUGANTHEEM PUSHTIVARDHANAM URVARUMIVA BANDHANAATHE

MRUTHYOR MOSHIYA MAAMRUTHAHE

The Maha Mrityunjay is a mantra that is said to rejuvenate, bestow health, wealth, a long life, peace, propsperity and contentment. The Mantra is a centuries old technique of connecting one to pure consciousness and bliss.

Dear Viswanath Ji, Thanks for your mail forwarding Astrovision Jan_2008. Just after downloading the magazine; I straightway gone through the entire magazine. I can not resist myself without expressing my views. I really appreciate your hard work in collecting, selecting, editing, getup of the magazine and presentation of various types of articles. I know that how much sincerity it requires. Second thing, which I appreciate that you have included my article which is against the present form of astrology. It shows that you have an open mind and will like to invite such articles for proper evaluation of astrology. Because, generally astrologers do not want to hear something against astrology ie: his business. Thus it is a magazine which every receiver will like to preserve in hard disk. I hope your magazine will rise like a boom. I am looking forward for new issues. Thanks once again for your innovation. With HAPPY NEW YEAR Yours truly, Sanat, [email protected]

Narasimha P.V.R. Rao" <[email protected]> wrote: Namaste Sir, I am the same person. Thank you for sending me your magazine on KP astrology. It is quite interesting. An e-magazine is a great idea. I wish you all the very best. People like Sri KrishnaMorthy are blessed souls to whom God revealed some insights. Followers of many great souls fall into the trap of ignoring everything taught by Maharshis before in favor of the work of one person. But, if the work of one blessed soul is integrated with the works of other blessed souls before him, there will be something better. If you people integrate the sub theory and the teachings of KrishnaMorthy with other teachings of Parasara such as divisional charts etc, it may be useful. For example, there is an excellent book on KP by Dr Manish Pandit, in which he integrated divisional charts, arudhas, tithi pravesha chakras (annual lunar return charts) etc with KP. Best regards, PVR Narasimha Rao USA (JH Hora Lite fame)

Dear M/s Viswanath & Nair, I am extremely thankful to you to receive your "ASTROVISION", inaugural issue, the first of its kind containing various subjects, apart from astrology, such as Divine Mantras, Yoga, Kitchen & beauty guide etc.etc. It is very interesting and your efforts in this direction are commendable. I hope that this will cover all the readers' desires of their liking. Wish you all success in your endeavour and good progress of it. Wishing you also a very happy and prosperous New Year 2008. Wishing you best of luck. Astrologically yours. K.S.V Ramani. E-mail: [email protected]

Dear Shri Viswanath, My sincere best wishes to you and your family on the onset of new year-2008. It is a pleasure receiving from you the opening issue of your e-magazine "Astrovision". I have gone through the magazine and found it to be outstandingly good. In fact, I am as such highly appreciative of your writing skill, as observed through your articles in Kanak's KP Ezine. I wish you a very happy and satisfying sailing in this endeavour and pray *The Lord* to bless you. I have liked some of the features in your magazines as follows. 1. The opening photo of Sri Ram (the Surya avatarar of Shri Narayan) exactly fits here. While, Shri Narayana is the universal protector and symbolic of satya, the Surya gives us light leading us to all spiritual learning including that of astrology. 2. The mix of various disciplines of Jyotisha. If permitted, I would like to point some improvement opportunities for the magazine. 1. Mantras on page #2. Apart from the Devanagari and its transliteration, it would be better to indicate its meaning. This would better fit for the whole page space.

2. Mantra solution at page #27. Here, the mantra should necessarily be in Devanagari script, as it is easy to refer it for correct pronunciation. The dhyan, nyasa, preferred days of doing, time of doing etc should be provided. If possible, provide the reference from where the mantra is taken. 3. It is better to sectionalise the magazine coverage, may be a: Correspondance, Mantra-Remedials, KP, Vedic, Ephemeries, Neumorology, Beauty forum, Astrologer's database etc As desired, I would also contribute to a few write-ups. I have been writing in The Astrological Magazine for over a decade based on the Jaimini theme of astrology. In case if this fits to your coverage scope, I may contribute a few articles in Jaimini in addition to the KP based theme. Vijay Kumar-- [email protected]

Respected sir, Thank you very much for sending me the Astro journal. It is very well conceived and well formulated. The explanations of charts using KP, is quite explicit. We look forward to more such editions. In case of subscription, please do let me know the necessary details. Wishing you all the best, Regards – Chaity - [email protected]

Dear Viswanath, Happy New Year. I have read your esteemed Astro Journal with interest. Let me tell you, for some one, who just commenced publishing, you have done an excellent job. You were not only able to bring elite contributors in Astrology from East, under one roof, but also could get articles from highly respected Western Astrologers like Mrs. Wendy. Please try to get a regular column done by Ms. Tersa Hamilton. When it comes to Navamsa, I don't know anyone either in India or abroad, who is as knowledgeable as Teresa. Similarly, you should try to involve as much Western Scholars as possible along with their Eastern counterpart. A word regarding editorial won't be out of place. The first thing read by guys like us is the editorial. The editorial should reflect the current issue of general interest. Say, to-day, something about the political scenario and future of Pakistan will be apt. The subject matter of the editorial should be selected judiciously. I am sure, under your able guidance, the journal will reach new horizons and will open the floodgate of Ancient Wisdom to all seekers. Best of Luck- Madhu Nair (Pranav) -- [email protected]

Dear Mr.M.K.Viswanth Ji, Thanks for sending me your Journal. Please include me on your regular mailing list for this journal. I wish to express my sincere gratitude for your enormous efforts to bring this journal out for broader audience. May your efforts bring better awareness and true knowledge of Jyotish for welfare of masses. With kind regards, Dr. Adya S.Tripathi-- San Jose, CA, USA- [email protected]

Thank you sir, I downloaded the magazine. It is very nice and useful to the followers of KP astrology. God will shower his blessings on you to serve the treatise Astrology as it is vedanga, and vedas are the ground to search God. Once again I thank you –Regards-- P.M. Gopalachary -- [email protected]

ASPECTS OF NODES -- VEDIC ANALYSIS

There are many controversial topics within the jyotish community today...I daresay this has always been the case and not unique to our time. The correct/incorrect ayanamsha (as discussed in previous article) pales into insignificance beside the hotly debated question of nodal aspects. Maharishi Parashara, the father of Vedic astrology, is quite specific about the planets aspects but nowhere does he attribute any aspects to the nodes... see table:

Planet Aspects

Su 7th from itself

Mon 7th from itself

Mars 4th, 7th, 8th from itself

Mercury 7th from itself

Jupiter 5th, 7th, 9th from itself

Venus 7th from itself

Saturn 3rd, 7th, 10th from itself

We need to consider also the fact that, although there are certain avasthas that state a planet is harmed when conjoined a Node (or Saturn or Mars), these same group of avasthas do not even assign Rahu and Ketu an aspectual value in virupas as they are shadow planets, not planets with a form (avasthas are ways to measure planetary strength).

In the classics Rahu and Ketu are mainly ignored in this way. No doubt the planets affect (by aspect) the houses occupied by the nodes (obvious logic) but the Nodes themselves neither cast nor receive any aspect directly. The reason for this is very simple and it's due (primarily) to the physical nature of the planets. A planet casts (or throws) it's aspect/influence as do all physical objects in the universe. The nodes however, having no physical body, are incapable of casting any aspect. Their influence, according to the wise sages, as well as the laws of nature, is confined to their own (mathematical) position...this, after all, is just what they are...a mathematical point on the ecliptic where the Mon intersects as it orbits the earth.

Since the plane of the Mon's orbit is tilted at an angle to the earth's orbit, the planes intersect at a line, called the line of nodes. The node where the two intersect as the Mon is crossing the earth's orbit traveling northward is called the ascending, or north, node. The opposite node is the descending, or south, node.

Any planet conjunct (either) point at birth is greatly influenced by this phenomena...an eclipse, for instance, occurs when either Su or Mon is conjunct a node.

Without a doubt the nodes do have a very strong and specific influence on the planets they conjoin and, because of this, they're treated as planets in Vedic astrology. However, as they have no physical body, they're known as the shadowy planets and, unable to act independently, their influence is confined to the house they occupy, the planet(s) they conjoin and their dispositor (the planet who's house they occupy).

The north node (Rahu) is compulsive and extroverted by nature and will draw us strongly towards the significations of the planet he conjoins and the affairs of the house he occupies. Rahu draws us to the things of the world and in the 10th house, if other factors support it, can indicate great fame. Mahatma Gandhi's horoscope is an example of this with Rahu conjunct 10th lord Mon in 10th... See Chart Below:

A more recent example is of a young astrology student who, during dasa of 10th lord Mercury (dispositor of Molatrikona Rahu), has had a phenomenal rise in recognition via the internet. In just 18 mths this native has overtaken all Jyotish discussion groups in terms of membership. Although young and relatively inexperienced, Rahu has catapulted him to the top. Mercury signifies writing/communicating and certainly this native is a prolific writer/communicator with many articles to his credit.

The south node (Ketu) is diametrically opposite in nature; secretive and/or shy, introverted and restrictive. In 10th Ketu may well indicate an extraordinary or unconventional career, however the native is likely to remain relatively detached from the fruits of his actions. Ketu's basic tendency is to restrict/obstruct the significations of the planet he conjoins and/or the affairs of the house he occupies...such obstructions can be difficult to define due to Ketu's secretive nature. For instance Ketu in lagna may indicate physical problems or lack of self confidence (self-worth) that can be difficult to diagnose; in 4th house such problems might manifest with vehicles or in the home...difficulties in owning own home perhaps. Of course the position and strength of dispositor is all important but none-the-less some hindrance will be there. Ketu's conjunction may indicate unusual/unconventional or ill-defined obstruction to the significations of the conjunct planet (and/or the houses ruled by that planet). Because of Ketu's quality of non-attachment he is known as Moksha Karaka... moksha means enlightenment and karaka means significator. Ketu therefore is the significator of enlightenment. PS: Two of the most prominent schools of today; S.A. founded by professor V.K. Choudhry, and SJVC founded by Sanjay Rath (as well as a handful of other modern day astrologers) propagate nodal aspects. These schools have large followings and, as the novice students trust implicitly in their teachings, it's fast becoming the accepted rule that the nodes aspect the 5th, 7th and 9th houses from themselves. Some also state that they aspect the 12th and 2nd (from their position). This was never taught by the sages...it's a "new vogue" concept that is spreading throughout the jyotish community. Frequency of Eclipses: (Source: flycapers.com)

As the Mon orbits the Earth, the Su, Earth and Mon approximately line up about every 29.5 days. At this time the Mon is either at New Phase (when the Mon is between the Earth and Su) or Full Phase (when the Earth is between the Mon and Su). However, the Mon usually does not pass in front of the Su (causing a solar eclipse), nor does the Mon pass into the Earth's shadow (causing a lunar eclipse) since the Mon's orbit is inclined about 5 degree to the plane of the Earth's orbit around the Su. Solar and lunar eclipses can only occur when the Mon is near (±18°) one of the two points where the Mon's and Earth's orbits cross (called nodes). This allows the Mon to pass at least partially in front of the Su (a solar eclipse), or at least partially move into the Earth's shadow (a lunar eclipse). That is, for eclipses to occur the Mon must be at New or Full Phase and the

line of nodes must point toward Su (as in points 1 or 3 below). Otherwise the Mon will not lie in the plane of the Earth's orbit and eclipses will not be possible (such as point 2). Lunar Nodes and Eclipses. The Mon's orbit is inclined about 5° to the plane of the Earth's orbit around the Su.

Every six months the nodes line up with the Su's direction and solar eclipses become possible at the time of New Mon. Likewise lunar eclipses become possible at the time of Full Mon. These two intervals of time when solar and lunar eclipses are possible are called eclipse seasons. Because the Mon's orbit slowly rotates in space, the nodes regress slowly with a period of approximately 18.6 causing the two eclipse seasons to occur about 19 days earlier each year. UPDATE MAR 2003:

Pundit Gopesh Kumar Ojha, in his book "Predictive Astrology of the Hindus", states categorically that Rahu and Ketu neither aspect nor are aspected. Certainly, if the house they occupy is aspected, the quality of that house is influenced by the aspecting planet and, in this way, according to traditional astrologers (of the old school), we say that Rahu or Ketu are aspected by a benefic or malefic but they do not themselves come under the realm of aspects as do the other planets. Strictly speaking Rahu and Ketu are affected by conjunction only. They show their effect through their dispositor and via the conjoined planet. Rahu often indicates a compulsive attraction to the significations of the conjoined planet, whereas Ketu can indicate restriction and/or unusual behaviour of the conjuncted planet. [The effect (nature/disposition) of the Nodes is greatly influenced by the lord of the nakshatra (constellation) they occupy.]

EFFECTS OF NAVAMSA -- VEDIC PURVIEW

Kalyana Varma in the grantha “Saravali” has devoted 5 chapters for Lost Horoscopy. Lost horoscopy means that when the time of birth or time of conception is not available, one can trace the lost birth details through horary method-this is how he begins the ‘Lost Horoscopy’ chapter. Under Chapter 51 he gives the effect of Navamsa Varga and lists out the details of complexion, disposition and appearance for a Native. If a person’s qualities are known, one’s horoscope can be reconstructed by matching his physical appearance, mental disposition and the like with the descriptions given by Kalyana Varma in Chapters 48 to 52. The chapter begins with the verse: ‘A native's complexion, disposition and appearance can be deduced based on the rising Navamsa at birth. The effects being stated infra will depend on the stronger of the two, viz. the Mon's Navamsa dispositor and the Navamsa Lagna Lord.’ In the concluding part on Lost Horoscopy he also states that ‘Lost horoscopic rules as expanded by Yavana, Bhadasana etc are ambiguous in some parts. So he has asked us to use our judgment before arriving at the result.’ Learned astrologers have stated that the relevant rules can be exchanged for horoscopes known as well. Hence with a view to familiarize the readers and students of Astrology, I have tabulated the effects of results of all the 108 Navamsas and presented it here. How to read this table? Each Nakshatra is divided into 4 padas and the pada has a characteristic of the sign of the zodiac which starts from Mesha. If you take 3 nakshatras you get 12 padas (3 x 4) which can be equated to the 12 rasis. However each rasi has been assigned only 2¼ Nakshatras or 9 padas only. So counting from Mesha the 9th sign falls in Dhanus. So the next Nakshatra pada should automatically start from Makara. Count 9 signs from Makara to end up in Kanya. The next Nakshatra pada should start from Thula. Similarly counting from Thula the 9th sign falls in Mithuna and naturally the next Nakshatra pada will begin from Karka. So the order of beginning is Mesha, Makara, Thula and Karka which tallies with the basic principle laid down in scriptures. Based on this principle let us find out from the table the characteristics of a person born in Makar Lagna. Makar Lana at birth rises at 8° 54’ in Uttarashada Nakshatra 4th pada. Upto Dhanur rasi counting from Aries 9 rasis are completed. So 9 multiplied by 9(padas for each rasi) 81 padas are over. Add 3 padas in Uttarashada (as the first pada of Uttarashada has already been included in Dhanus) we get the pada number as 84. Now locate this number in the table and read the effects column shown against it.

ASTROLOGICAL SYMPTOMS OF DIABETES TYPE - II Type 2 diabetes is the most commonly occurring diabetes. About 90% of the diabetics suffer from this type of diabetes. The Definition for type 2 diabetes is as follows: Type 2 diabetes results from insulin resistance (a condition in which the body fails to properly use insulin), combined with relative insulin deficiency. There are two aspects here: a. Relative insulin deficiency - Not enough insulin is produced b. Insulin resistance - Body fails to properly use the insulin produced It is a well know fact that pancreas produce insulin and in Astrology Venus is the karaka for pancreas. Hence, an afflicted Venus could indicate defective or under efficient pancreas. Hence, one could find a weak and afflicted Venus in this case also. But it is not mandatory as an individual with healthy pancreas could possibly get Type 2 diabetes. Hence, it is important to look for other symptoms which are mandatory for Type 2 diabetes. Take a look at the second part (aspect ‘b’ above). Insulin resistance plays important role in Type 2 and is a mandatory condition. Insulin resistance is the condition in which normal amounts of insulin are inadequate to produce a normal insulin response from fat, muscle and liver cells. Hence, the problem is related to defective fat/muscle/liver cells. People who are overweight have a higher risk of insulin resistance, because fat interferes with the body's ability to use insulin. I understand that the primary treatment for insulin resistance is exercise and weight loss. I would like to interpret the above sentence astrologically: Increased exercise could be read as strengthening Mars Weight Loss (manage body weight) could be read as reduce the malefic effect of Jupiter. The involvement of Mars and Jupiter can be explained. Fat cells and Liver cells indicate Jupiter. And, muscle cells indicate Saturn. Hence, the problem could be seen in relationship with Jupiter, Mars and Saturn. These cells interact with the insulin in the blood. Mars is the significator for ‘Majja’ or bone marrow where blood is produced. And, as Venus’s affliction is not a necessary condition, I am skipping that part, though in many cases one can clearly see the involvement of Venus as well. I was hoping to see afflicted Jupiter and Mars in relationship with Saturn in the charts of people suffering from diabetes type 2. However, there was a small change in the pattern I noticed. Instead of Saturn getting involved with Mars and Jupiter every time, it was Rahu that showed up in the combination most of the time. It is not surprising as our rishis have proclaimed “Sanivad Rahu”.

LORD SHRI RAM (OF RAMAYANA FAME)

This write up is a continuation from the previous issue. As written earlier, Sage Valmiki had not given the name of the stars in which the planets are posited, except Mon, who was in Jupiter star. The Ascendant should signify the stature and nature of the person. Asc is in Cancer, a watery sign, with sign lord Mon is conjoined with Jupiter. Connection with a watery sign should normally make the native corpulent, especially when Jupiter, who signifies fat, is conjoined Asc and its lord Mon. Besides Jupiter and Mon, both Saturn and Mars are aspecting the Asc. Saturn should signify long and lean person, whereas Mars should signify thin and short person. Hence it could be speculated that stature of Lord Shri Ram should have been somewhat corpulent in nature with average height. Saturn make the person nagging and orthodox, some times makes the mind blank. Jupiter will give a lot of wisdom. Besides, being lord of 9th, Jupiter makes the person religiously inclined. Since Mars who is placed in the 7th house and aspects Asc lord Mon and Jupiter, the aggressive nature, bold and strong mind of the native cannot be ruled out. Jupiter and Mon conjunction should make the person pious with high-level positive thinking, power of intuition and always stick to his version. 9th house stands for father. The 10th Lord Mars, who is the 2nd lord from 9th house is aspecting the 9th lord Jupiter. Besides 8th lord (who is 12th from 9th house) also aspecting. 12th house is the final emancipation or moksha house. These are probably some of the reasons for not getting enough longevity of Raja Dasarath, who was the King of Ayodhya and father Lord Shri Ram. Moon was in the last pada of Punarvasu, signifying a maximum of 4 years of Jupiter VMD (out of the 16 years allocated to Jupiter) at the time of birth. Thereafter 19 years of Saturn VMD follows. Thus the age of Lord Shri Ram could have been around 21—23 years of old at the end of Saturn VMD. It is probably during Mercury VMD of Lord Shri Ram, Raja Dasarath could have passed away. Third Bhava lord Mercury becomes the 7th lord signifying Maraka and Bhadaka for 9th house (Pisces) really fits for death period for father. 10th Bhava lord Mars is in Capricorn, a sign ruled by Saturn, whereas Su is the occupant of 10th house, which is the house of profession, dignity, honor, success, etc. Saturn and Su are in mutual aspect. Connection of Saturn with any house or signification will make the native acquire it later. Saturn is the delay master. Saturn’s aspect on 10th house and Su has definitely applied its might to delay the throne and coronation to Lord Shri Ram.

It takes 30 years for Saturn to make one cycle of the zodiac. Saturn is placed in Libra. In order Saturn to reach 12th house from natal Mon, it would have taken 19 to 20 years. Probably this period could be the time when Lord Shri Ram was asked to go into exile. Saturn’s transit over natal Mon entails many a persons to wander aimlessly, walk long distances, face unknown problems, undergo rigorous mental pain, loss of power and honour, change of place, uncared of and unwanted by kith and kin, etc. But this rule probably did not apply to Lord Ram’s brothers Bharat and Shatrugan. Is it possible due to change in the Asc? Asc and Asc lord are conjoined by 6th lord Jupiter (who signifies injury) and is aspected by Mars, the planet of injury. This makes the native to suffer from injuries, but since 8th lord Saturn, who signifies longevity, is not aspected either by Jupiter or Mars, instead Saturn aspects Jupiter and Asc, it could be concluded that the injuries were not fatal.

Satellite photographs released by NASA showing the bridge in dilapidated condition, which was said to have been built by Lord Shri Ram and the Vanar Sena (monkey army) between Dhanushkodi in India and Talaimannar in Srilanka which is at about 30 kms. long.

PS: An attempt has been made to co-relate few characteristics and events of Lord Shri Ram even in the absence of a proper horoscope chart. The Editorial Board feel that the readers take these views in its right perspective in the light of minimum astro information is available.

The stellar method is very simple that when “A” planet is posited in “B” star will give the result of the star lord of “B” star. For example, if Saturn is placed in any of Venus stars such as Bharani, Purva Phalguni or Purva Ashada, Saturn will give the result of Venus, according to the signification of Venus. The other rule is to be considered is that of Occupant. Occupant is always stronger too. At first I told him that he is placed in Administration Dept. This is because of placement of Su in the house of profession. I further declared that the native will have early gray hairs, because of the placement of (a) Asc bhava lord in Rahu star in Aquarius and Rahu was conjoined Saturn, (b) Asc Cuspal sub lord Jupiter is conjoined Saturn. Saturn signifies old man and early ageing. During the conversation, he also asked me as to whether his marriage will be through a love marriage or an arranged one. I have immediately replied to him that there was a love failure incident in your life, to which he agreed. He wanted me to tell the period in which period the love failure took place. The person had loved a girl, but the courtship ended in disappointment. I told him that the period of disappointment was during Nov 1997 to March 2000 when Rahu-Jupiter period operated. For marriage, 7th house is considered, while 2nd house (addition of a member) and 11th house (long time relationship and fulfillment of desire) are taken as supporting houses. 5th house is considered for romance. 1st, 6th and 10th houses are negative houses for marriage, while 4th house is negative house for romance. Jupiter is the 7th Bhava lord signifying marriage is conjoined Saturn, who is in the star of Venus. Venus is the 5th lord signifying romance. Saturn and Jupiter are aspected by Mercury, who is lord of 4th (negation to 5th). Jupiter being the 7th and 10th Bhava lord is placed in Ketu star Makha. Ketu, a shadowy planet will first give the result of the planet it conjoined with. Ketu is conjoined with Mercury, who is the Bhava lord of 1st house. 1st house stands negation to 2nd house.

Hence it is concluded that the native had an experience of lack of fulfillment of desire with reference to love affair in Rahu-Jupiter period. On further scrutiny of the chart, it is found that Saturn was conjoined with Jupiter, Rahu, Mars. Besides Mercury and Venus are aspected by Saturn. Su was in Revati star and its star lord Mercury was aspected by Saturn. Mon was in Virgo in own star, but was in 2nd house from Saturn. Hence almost all the planets come under the firm grip of Saturn. I further reckoned that lot of incidents taken place in your life after much delay frustration and disappointment, to which he agreed. Hence remedial antidotes were prescribed to him, which he agreed to undergo religiously. The person was found to be tall, but too fat, almost equal to obesity. I attributed to this peculiarity and stature due to Asc cuspal sub lord Jupiter is getting connected to Saturn and is aspected by Asc lord Mercury. Placement of Su in 10th house makes the person very straight-forward, because Su moves steadily only in direct motion. I further told him that since Asc lord Mercury and Asc cuspal sub lord Jupiter respectively are connected to 6th lord Mars as well as Ketu who is in Mars star, he should take care with reference to accidents, especially while driving, since 4th bhava lord Mercury (vahana) is aspected by 6th lord (injury) Mars (accidents). He then revealed that he had once met with an accident. The whole discussion was based on the Stellar chart, and in the absence of KP chart, further events with reference to fructification of events were not discussed in detail.

Bhava Chart Chart based on the Ascending Degree. ex - Suppose the ascending degree of a man is 20th degree of Cancer. This point is taken as the mid-point of Bhava ( House ) and 15 degrees to either side is taken as the Ascendant House. So the Ascendant house or the First House is from 5th degree of Cancer to the 5th degree of Leo.

Bhava Sphutam Longitudes of Houses ( Bhavas ). Birth Number The number of the date of birth. If 27th , the Birth Number is 2+7 = 9 Cadent Houses 3, 6, 9 and 12 Houses are called Cadent Houses. ( Apoklimas ) Cardinal Signs The four movable signs initiating the 4 seasons - Aries, Capricorn, Libra,

Cancer. Celestial Equator The Equator of the Celestial Sphere, like the Equator of the earth. Celestial Meridien Like the Greenwich Meridien of the Earth, the Meridien of the Celestial

Sphere. Chandra Vela Chandra Kriya & Chandra Avastha

Subtle States of the Mon.

Combustion When a planet comes too near the Su, he is said to be combust. Mon becomes combust when near 12 degrees of the Su, Mars 17 degrees, Jupiter 11 degrees, Venus 9 degrees, Mercury 13 degrees & Saturn 15 degrees.

Conjunction 0 degrees. Two planets having the same longitude are said to be in conjunction.

Constellation A group of stars. Chaitra Paksha Ayanamsa

The Indian Govt adopted this Ayanamsa for all astronomical calculations. ( There are other Ayanamsas formulated by scholars.)

Cuspal Degree From 29 to 30 degrees of a Sign and from 0 to 1 degree of a Sign Dasa Period of Directional Influence. Saturn's period is 19 years Jupiter's

16, Mars 7, Mon 10 Su 6 Venus 20 Rahu 18 Ketu 7. When a person is born he is born in a certain star. It is ruled by a planet. This planet is ruling at the time of birth. Say a child is born in a star called Zeta Piscium or Revathi. Its lord is Mercury and Mercury Dasa will be ruling at the time of birth. After 17 years it will be replaced by Ketu Dasa for 7 years and after 7 years Venus dasa for 20 years.

Dasamsa 1/10 of a Sign. 3 degrees. Decanate 10 degrees of the Zodiac ( Sanskrit - Drekkana ). Used heavily in Horary

Astrology. Basically symbolic, with flowers and jewels as positive and auspicious and serpentine and bird decanates as negative and as impediments. This astrological symbolism is considered as intriguing and captivating by its beauty and compexity. Blessed is the astrologer who can use the decanates properly !

Planetary Beacons and Pointers in the Rashi Varga in Good Old Jyotish Beyond “Events” and ‘Remedials’!

by

Rohiniranjan

E-Mail: [email protected]

As one walks on the long and arduous and lonely path of Jyotish for a few decades at the very least, many observations, thoughts and ideas arise and get incorporated into one’s daily practice; even become second nature and then suddenly one runs into one’s old writings or notes and realizes the point where the thoughts and ideas in personal practice, originally arose! In this instance, what I am about to share with you all came to me some 35 to 38 years ago at a time when I was working away alone at my self-imposed mission of understanding COSMO-SYMBiOLOGY in general, and through Jyotish in particular. This past Christmas (2007), I suddenly got connected to those moments after seemingly a very long time and to my surprise discovered that I had been experiencing without realizing this trend within myself that I thought was recent but tonight as I pen this article, I realize that it always had been with me! THAT: After spending some really intense, quality time with jyotish, one way or another, suddenly the “pattern” emerges and at some time in the past actually got documented, and got incorporated in my daily practice of jyotish. What triggered this realization was through an email request for a reading that I got some time ago and only recently could get to it. The young man was sharing with me his experiences with contemporary jyotish and readings that he had received from many after paying significant sums of money and some perhaps even for free. He was lamenting over the fact that most of these jyotishis seemed to use only the rashi chart and did not seem to be able to go beyond it. In recent years, many vocal leaders and teachers in jyotish had been stating repeatedly and very emphatically that rashi (signs as opposed to finer divisions or harmonics) alone does not contain a lot of information and cannot give a serious or information-rich reading. Others then would voice their opinions from time to time that the other vargas (harmonics) were not being utilized as the Sages originally intended and the “silicon-oil” bath-houses (Hot and humid public discussion boards on Internet with their flame wars, bickerings ad nauseum!) came to be but went nowhere, as usual! Some even questioned, from time to time, the veracity of using finer vargas (other than the sign chart, the rashi varga) as horoscopes with houses etc. as opposed to being utilized as indicators of strength or beneficience (e.g., Su is placed in x numbers of own or exalted vargas); a consideration that is incorporated in the saptavargaja bala segment of Shadbala, for instance. The debate continues and shall continue till the proverbial cows come home! And yet, the rashi varga is not really all that marasmic in terms of information, truth be told. It holds not only the crux of jyotish with pointers to the relationships between planets, and the indicators for awasthas, other states, functional maleficience and beneficience and lest we forget, the Jaimini system is heavily dependent upon or based on rashi vargas. The rashi varga is not something to be dismissed lightly in my opinion. Many have written reams and reams on karakattwa (specific significations) and other attributes of planets and so on but what I share today is perhaps a slightly different view on how I viewed the indications of the planets, some decades ago in a moment of understanding. Hopefully, it will be of some help to others. Translated into english, what I wrote was: The house/sign in which Su is placed, by itself, and associated with the lords or significators (karakas) and the house in which Leo is placed in the nativity’s horoscope, hold the key to the areas or indications or things that the nativity is pleased to attend to or accomplish, at the soul level. A similar algorithm was then followed for the remaining planets {the ones in brackets were later revelations!}:

Mon, the house it is in, the planets its is associated with and the house in which cancer falls: The things, areas and activities that please the mind Mars: The things and activities which the individual will willingly devote efforts and energy towards Mercury: Areas of trade {and communication} Jupiter: {Areas of knowledge, knowing and morals} Venus: Things without which the person’s life becomes bland, insipid and like death. Saturn: Things and areas which remain ‘dead’ and absent in the nativity’s life or are avoided and suppressed during the current lifetime (in accordance to the life-plan). Kind of like repressed or unexpressed ‘genes’ Lunar nodes: Things and areas which remain uncertain or where phobias and obsessions arise. Over a period of time, I have begun to take more seriously the statement in jyotish that goes: Sanivada Rahu, kujvata ketu (Rahu or north node of Mon is similar to Saturn in its nature while Ketu, the south node of Mon is of the nature of Mars). This obviously, in my understanding, refers to the rulership of Scorpio by mars/ketu and of aquarius by Saturn/Rahu as elaborated in the conditions prescribed for their utilization as rulers in the Chara Dasha scheme (by Parashara and Jaimini). When the nodes become rulers of the two signs normally ruled by mars and Saturn, special attention must be paid to the nodes in such charts in general and for the considerations given in this article. These prescribed rules are to be applied sequentially, until one of them is met: If both are in own sign (e.g., Saturn in Capricorn and rahu in aquarius) then both share rulership. If one is in own sign (e.g., Saturn in Capricorn) then Rahu rules aquarius If one of the contender is in company (in the same sign) of greater number of planets becomes the ruler of aquarius or scorpio (rahu or ketu respectively) Not meeting the above requirements, the planet is stronger in the following order: Movable, Fixed, Dual. The planet in dual sign is the strongest contender. If both are in the same triplicity, then utilizing the Jaimini Chara order of counting, the planet that is farther away from the sign under consideration (aquarius or scorpio) becomes the ruler. The prescribed order of counting is normal (aries, Taurus, Gemini…) for Aries, Taurus, Gemini, libra, scorpio, and Sagittarius, and in reverse order (cancer, Gemini, Taurus…) for the remaining signs. The order alternates in clusters of three signs. Now to illustrate, let us take a chart well-known to jyotishis, that of the modern Rishi: Dr. Deepak Chopra. Here Su is placed in its sign of debility in the ninth house and leo is placed in the 7th house. Though a fairly accomplished modern medicine specialist who received education in an Ivy League institute in India (AIIMS) and then did pretty well abroad, obviously there was something that the ‘soul’ of the good doctor was finding amiss. The spiritual linkage between the healing system and the patient was missing and the ninth house Su was calling out to Dr. Deepak with all its might. And the soul wanted to bring all of this out in the open, in plain view for all to see, which is what the 7th house (in this case the natural home of Su) is all about. Deepak Chopra found a spiritual teacher who brought together the missing pieces in Dr. Chopra’s life and then a wonderful journey began. And now about the planets associated with Su? Jupiter’s wisdom, mercury’s skilled writing and allegorical presentation, presented with the brilliant energy depicted by the mutual exchange between Venus (lord of 9th) and mars (lord of 10th) is not happenstance. The presence of ketu with Venus in the mysterious Scorpio adds the depth of wisdom that is not coming from what someone read just in the last few years and is regurgitating but comes from many lifetimes of observations, and comprehension, deep comprehension. An interesting trait that Deepak has is of giving a

whole string of keywords and examples in a rapid succession when he is discussing something. A benefic mars and mercury in the presence of Jupiter (energy, wisdom, verbosity) in the 9th through their rulership of the relevant houses, 2nd for speech, from the mind (5th), and the 3rd for thoughts communicated and 7th (to the masses). The sign of an excellent teacher who loves to teach! Obviously there are many classical yogas in this chart and those do help further. What pleases the mind of Deepak? His Mon is placed in virgo in the 8th house. His primary profession, as the world sees him is as a doctor and healer. His writing, teachings, guru status comes afterwards. The sixth sign virgo is often seen prominently in the charts of doctors. In this case, Deepak always seems to be concerned about the inability or limitations of modern medicine to deal with chronic, lifetime illnesses, generally indicated by the 8th house. The lord of 6th Mon is placed in the 8th giving a vipareeta rajayoga. Health, definitely is something that will be of great interest to Deepak’s mind, and fortunate is he who has found what pleases his mind to unite with what pleases his soul, earlier described, and turned it into a mission in this lifetime. Virgo is also the sign of writers and authors and Deepak has himself mentioned that he always wanted to write and share his experiences and knowledge with others in a simple and pleasing manner (the Venus and ketu helped too!) Mars as earlier pointed out is placed with Su, mercury, Jupiter in the 9th and rules the 3rd and 10th. Through communication and actually remaining connected to his original profession through the Chopra Healing Center, Deepak has managed to devote his enormous internal energy towards meeting his personal life-goals (physical, mental and spiritual) and in a rather effective manner. The pivot of spirituality, of higher learning which through the martian-venusian energies feeds into and is expressed through the mercurian modalities (speeches, workshops, writings) and all of these bringing a rather lucrative return in a worldly sense in terms of riches of all kinds are what mercury is all about when he smiles on the nativity. What the Su lacks in terms of uchchabala (exaltation strength), is more than made up through cancellation (presence of mars with Su, and Venus being in kendra from lagna) which then energizes the budhaditya yoga (sign association of mercury and Su) in the ninth and a spiritually-minded teacher-healer was born. Jupiter has been described earlier and the thematic link between Jupiter in 9th, Jupiter owning the 2nd (speech and family) and 11th (earnings and gains) can be seen in Deepak’s experience. One thing to point out here is that jyotishis, particularly beginners tend to focus on one factor. While this is the only way to discuss or absorb the astrological factors, due to our linear thinking and communication, this is a good example where one must not think of Jupiter without simultaneously thinking of mars, Su and mercury all in 9th house and then synthesize the energies into one reading! And finally, Venus, Saturn and rahu: So what is it that our good doctor would feel bleak without? Or which remained unexpressed as per our hypothesis to serve as the key behind Saturn in this chart? With Saturn in the sixth, and Saturn being lagnesha and lord of 12th, his profession and association with illness and suffering in others are very key drivers without which none of this would have been possible. And without which (Venus in 10th) his message, his life would have remained unaccomplished. Venus rules the 9th and 4th in this chart. Without the spirituality and home/peace of mind that he has obviously gained from many lifetimes of good deeds, as evident from his 9th house situation, Deepak would have not arrived in the grand way that he has! There are people who can switch careers drastically with no link to what they did before or were trained for. Ironically, it is true for many foreign-trained medical doctors in North America. Only Deepak knows and can confirm, but this is one area that he has always felt strongly about but has probably not addressed in terms of bringing about a change in the attitudes of native health-care administrative bodies. Now what about Rahu? What are the doctor’s fears and inner trepidations? Deepak has experienced at some point in his life a great fear of losing someone very dear, close to home and it could be related to his experience about his children during the 9/11 experience as he has shared publicly, as well as the period when he was being ostracized by the North American Medical community for his extremely brave step to speak out against established medicine in a country that was not his own!

An interesting thing to note in this chart is the fact that Rahu and not Saturn is the lagnesh in this horoscope! This has been a personal research of mine based on the rather well-accepted premise of kujawata ketu and sanivada Rahu that all jyotishis are aware of (described earlier in this article)! Where does this statement come from? I think it arises from the segment of astrology described by both Parashara and Jaimini when they tell us about the dual rulership of Scorpio and Aquarius rashis which jyotishis accept as being co-ruled by ketu/mars and rahu/Saturn respectively. These are in most instances not co-ruled, but ruled by one or the other based on some very clear guidance given by both Rishis. In this chart for instance, both Saturn and Rahu are placed singly in two houses, however, Rahu is placed in a fixed sign while Saturn is placed in a chara sign. The dual signs are considered stronger than fixed signs and the fixed signs are stronger than the movable or chara signs. Rahu is in a fixed sign, taurus, in this chart and thus becomes the lagnesha. The visible proof for this is the physical appearance of Deepak Chopra. His youthful looks, pleasant and gentle demeanour, the shape of forehead, the dimple on his chin, his love of aesthetics and attention to beauty in any project he takes on are crying out aloud: Venus! Venus aspects Rahu from the 10th house and taurus also arises in navamsha. Although Deepak will age gracefully, I am certain that he is probably not looking at it with welcoming arms. He loves integrity and particularly of the mind-body-spirit working well in a coordinated manner throughout the lifetime and that he has turned into a lifelong quest as we all know from his writings and thoughts shared with all of us. Since the Rahu ketu axis sits in the 4th and 10th houses, a major concern had been that pertaining to home life and its balancing with a very productive professional life and a great deal of effort has gone into making sure that the two areas remained well-attended and integrated. I hope I have been able to present my thoughts in a cogent and hopefully veritable manner. Several things are obvious and easily confirmed from facts that we know, but there are certain things that can only be confirmed by Dr. Deepak Chopra. In the absence of such confirmation or feedback forthcoming (unless Dr. Chopra reads this article on this wonderful website, AND I hope he does!), my research must continue on this hypothesis that came to me at an opportune moment. You, readers and hopefully serious and sincere astrologers will join me and help by becoming ‘testers’ or as was the term in homeopathy (Heilkunst), “proovers”!

Simplified Vedic Astrology

Vedic (Hindu) astrology offers powerful and amazing insights that are either unavailable, or impossible to determine in a western chart alone. Western and Vedic astrology are complementary, not mutually exclusive. Western charts are very egocentric. Vedic charts reflect Indian culture. The emphasis is not placed upon the desires or personality of the individual, but how the individual ‘succeeds’ in the social or worldly context. What rank or standing will the person achieve, will marriage be successful, is wealth accumulated, will children add to the wellbeing of the family or detract from it, and will the person get a good guru and so on? Vedic astrology is very clear on the outcomes, but very fuzzy on the details. Western astrology is good with the details but fuzzy on the outcomes. The core of Vedic astrology is the Vedic House structure. Vedic Houses have an extra dimension or quality associated with them compared to western astrology. In a similar fashion to western astrology, each House rules various areas of life with all 12 Houses dividing life’s possibilities into a pie of twelve parts. There is an overlap in meaning in the Houses between western and Vedic astrology but not all Vedic Houses rules the same area of life as the corresponding western House. Some key differences between Western and Vedic Houses include: 2nd Vedic House also rules speech and domestic happiness. 3rd Vedic House rules only younger siblings. It is a key House indicating efforts, sense of adventures and artistic skills. 4th House indicates accumulation of all fixed assets, not just the home. 5th House rules the strength of the mind and is a ‘spiritual’ house. Karma from the last life is indicated by this House, or for those that do not believe in reincarnation, the initial boost given in life. 6th House also rules enemies (competitors or jealous people). 7th House also rules living overseas 8th House is also the Occult House showing an interest in astrology, numerology, tarot, ESP etc. A person’s vitality and chronic diseases. 9th House exclusively rules the father, and the relationship to the person’s guru. 11th House rules financial windfalls and gains, as well as eldest or older siblings 12th House rules expenses, travels to exotic foreign locations, sexual pleasure and ‘liberation’ after death.

However the key difference between western and Vedic House structure does not rely upon the above rulership of each House but upon another quality or dimension. The extra dimension assigned to Vedic Houses, is the application of positive, negative, neutral qualities to each House in addition to its area of rulership. For example the 9th House, as well as indicating the father, overseas travels etc, is also the most positive and beneficial House in the Vedic astrology. Any House with its ruling planet in the 9th House is greatly enhanced. If Taurus owns the 2nd House of Finances, and Venus is situated in the 9th House, this is a very fortunate turn of events for the person’s financial strength. They may also derive financial benefit from their father. Each House has a quality associated with it, and this quality is the preeminent quality for determining the success or otherwise of any planet contained within it, and the House(s) ruled by that Planet. The qualities associated with each Vedic House are: 1st House – positive (third strongest, after 5th and 9th). The ruling planet (of the 1st House) always takes a good energy with it. 2nd House – neutral 3rd House – Difficult but a ‘growing’ House indicating initial adverse affects can ameliorate with time. 4th House – neutral (Benefic rulers of the 4th cause problems where they are located, malefic rulers do good where they are located). 5th House – second best house for positive energy (after the 9th) – indicates where initial positive energy or karma is directed. 6th House – negative ‘growing’ House. Indicates conditions can improve with time and effort but initial conditions are bad or difficult. Third strongest of the ‘evil’ Houses after the 8th and 12th. 7th House – neutral (Benefic rulers of the 7th cause problems where they are located, malefic rulers do good where they are located). 8th House – worst of the negative Houses. It places a brick wall in front of any House they affect, and any planets located within the 8th 9th House – best of all Houses. Sometimes considered the House of Grace as the benefits from it seem to appear without any real effort. 10th House – neutral (Benefic rulers of the 10th cause problems where they are located, malefic rulers do good where they are located). 11th House – neutral, ‘growing’ House indicating improvement and benefits with time. 12th House – negative through decay and one of the troika of three ‘evil’ Houses. Initially good results may appear but any benefits or positivity decays with time. In Vedic astrology the malefic planets are: Su, Mars, Saturn, the waning Mon and the two nodes of the Mon (Rahu and Ketu). The benefics are Venus, Jupiter, and the waxing Mon. Mercury is androgynous and takes on the attribute of the planet with strongest influence upon it. As an example, Aries owning the 5th House with its ruler Mars located in the 8th House. This is very unfortunate for 5th House affairs. The person will have no children or difficulties with their children who could suffer chronic illnesses. Their own mind is weak. Creative and speculative ventures are doomed and difficulties with casual relationships. However the 8th House is enhanced and the person’s vitality and sex drive is increased. It also indicates a long life and the person could inherit money early in their life. Interest in the ‘occult’ (astrology, tarot etc) carried over from their last life.

Page #75 / 83

The quality associated with each House works two ways. All planets bring the quality of the House they rule to their House of residence, and the quality of the House they reside in is transferred back to the House(s) they rule. If general, if the rulers of the two most positive Houses, the 5th and 9th Houses are located in the same House (i.e. conjunction in Vedic astrology), and the House they reside in is not an `evil’ House, this brings extremely good results. This is sometimes labeled a ‘rajayoga’ (kingly union). If these planets were located in the 10th House then the person could be extremely successful in their career or even be a public figure provided the ruler of the 10th House was well placed and aspected. Vedic astrology concentrates on life’s structure that is tangible, which is why only planets that can be seen with the naked eye are used. Uranus, Neptune and Pluto are ignored. In compensation for the lack of Uranus, Neptune and Pluto, Aquarius is ruled by Saturn, Pisces by Jupiter, and Scorpio by Mars. Only the Su and Mon rule one sign each. Vedic Houses use whole signs and equal Houses for the 12 Houses. For example if the ascendant is 14 degrees Scorpio (in the sidereal zodiac), the 1st House is all of Scorpio, the 2nd House all of Sagittarius and so on. The Vedic system of aspects is unique to Vedic astrology and the western system of aspects cannot be used. My experience has shown me that the best way to handle Vedic astrology is to keep it separate from western astrology. When I do a Vedic chart, I put my Vedic astrologer’s hat on, and I ignore all western astrological techniques. Similarly I never bring Vedic techniques to the western chart. It is enthralling how using different zodiacs and very different techniques, complementary and mutually supporting charts are developed for a person. The Vedic chart supplies a simplified overview of a person’s life that I have never been able to obtain using western astrology. The Vedic chart provides the outline, while the western chart provides the detail.

MYTHOLOGY ABOUT PLANETS IN ASTROLOGY

. || Om Shanthi ||

Mythologica story 1: In ancient time, there were two groups in world, one called Devas, rulers of heaven and another called Asuras or Rakshasas rulers of earth. Both having exact opposite character and action, Asuras were great threat to the Devas. Devas were of divine characters and were close to Lords Siva, Vishnu and Brahma, always protecting the interests of people with relegious faith. Raksgasas were very cruel, causing destruction to the world and always fighting with Devas for power sake, possessing great srength.. Unbearable with the cruelty of Asuras, the Devas prayed to Lord Mahavishnu for protecting them from the Asuras. Lord Vishnu accepted their request and advised them to churn the sea well, so that they will get Amrutham from it, which if taken, one will have no re-birth and get all strength to conquer the Asuras. As it was a difficult task for Devas alone, they approached the head of Asura with the intention of taking their help too in churning the ocean to get Amrutham pot from it. For this they entered into a compromise that they too can share the Amrutham. Tempting on this that this will be great advantage to Asuras unbeatable from anything and for ever, they agreed to co-operate. For this the Asuras brought a mountain to the sea, as grinder stone and a big snake called Vasugi to use it as rope for churning, Asuras on head side of the big snake and Devas from the tail side, both started churning the sea. There were some teething trouble initially (1) Out of churning a pot of bitter poison came out which could destroy every thing and every body even by its nearness. But both Devas and Asuras, untiring continued churning. (2) The mountain started slanting and dipped into sea.. Seeing this danger, Lord Vishnu took Tortoise Avtar & went into deep sea and set right the mountain. After these hurdle, one by one divine appeared, an elephant called “Iravadham”, then aswini Devas, Kamadhenu, a divine Cow yielding perinniel mild and good, and then Goddess Mahalakshmi herself and finally a pot of Amrutham carried by a lady called Mohini, who is none other than Lord Vishnu himself. The lord was to help Devas and so ordered to form one row for Devas and anoter for Asuras and started to serve Devas first. Asuras were baffled with the beuty of Mohini and simply obeyed her. This partiality of serving Amrutham to Devas only irked one Asura, who disguised himself as a Deva, sit with them and took Amrutham. However this was noticed by the powerful Sun and Moon among the Devas and complained to Lord Vishnu about the cheating of an Asura. The Lord getting angry, cut the body of that Asura into two pieces. Since the Asura already took Amrutha he did not die. But the head portion was named as Rahu and tail named as Kethu and became as 8th and 9th Planet along with other 7 Planets viz. Sun to Saturn. Taking vengence on the Sun and Moon who was the reason for their disabled body, from that time onwards during transit (Gochara) whenever Rahu and Kethu is transiting close to Sun or Moon in zodiac, they afflict these two luminaries becoming to know as eclipses, .i.e Solar Eclipse and Lunar Eclipse.

Mythological Story 2 : Ravana, a mighty king of all Asuras, got a boon from Lird Siva that he is not to be killed by any Devas, Asuras, weapons, or Animals etc In this he omitted to mention the human being viz. men or women, as he thought them as insignificant persons, who will dare to approach him even. He was a threat to all Devas.

His wife was pregnant and the time came for her delivery. Ravana wanted his would be son to be born should have all comforts and highest longevity. As he was well versed with astrology, and he had full command on the Navagrahs (Sun to Kethu), who were subservient to him for fear. He commanded all the planets to be in good position especially connecting to 11th Bhava (House of profit and fulfilment of desires). All the 8th Grahas obeyed, while Saturn only did not obey his command. The reason may be this that he is called Yama or karaka for longevity. He would have foresight about the would be child that he may not be alive for long. King Ravana became furious and cut the leg of Saturn for his disobedience. From that time, Saturn became to be known as Mandhan (lame). It has become the practice that lame and disabled persons should always be looked as propitation of Saturn and if they are beggars, they should be given alms generously.

Eskain horoscope

--- Sanat Kumar Jain

It is inconvenient to take care of all relevant output of a horoscope relating to Ascendant, Chalit, Navansh, Saptmansh, Status and degree of planet, Full half etc. Aspect, Periodicity (Dasha), Number of Ashtak-varg, Transit of planet, Exalted, debilitated planet, Kaarak, Maarak, Friend-enemy, Tazik, various information relating to Krishnamurti system etc., while concluding a precise prediction. Because all these informations are scattered on various pages hence it was not possible to simultaneously evaluate the impact of every chart. Astrologers generally conclude any prediction on the basis of some known and practised principles irrespective of the fact as to whether it may be correct or not. But for conveniently evaluating a horoscope from all angles and also considering various charts, irrespective of the fact as to whether those principles are well versed or not; I developed three charts of Eskain horoscope with the help of computer, to enable me to conclude a prediction after evaluating various output. Every chart is prepared only on a page, hence it is extraordinarily convenient to assess appropriately placed various points based on the traditional astrological system.

Shakti chakra Following information are incorporated in one page of Shakti chakra :– Ascendant horoscope, Chalit horoscope - North Indian, Chalit horoscope -

Krishnamurti, Saptmansh horoscope, Navansh horoscope, Tazik horoscope, House with sandhi - North Indian, Span of house - Krishnamurti system (KP), Lord of house, Degree of planets, Exalted - debilitated, Aarohi, Avrohi, Kaarak, Kaarak of house, Own house, Friend’s house, Even house, Enemy’s house, Mol-trikon, Full, 3/4th, half, quarter aspect, Set, Retrograde, Status of planet, Ashtak varg, Current Major and Minor periodicity (Maha dasha, Antar dasha), Next Major and Minor periodicity, Order of dasha since birth, Constellation of the Su and Mon with their steps, Friend, enemy, own house of Saptmansh and Navansh horoscopes, Tri-bal (Sthan-bal, Dig-bal, Nesargik-bal) of planet in percent, Significator of house, Favourable and unfavourable aspect on the Cusp of house - KP, Favourable and unfavourable aspect on a planet - KP, Conjunction of planet - KP, Lord, Sublord, Subsublord of a house - KP, Lord, Sublord, Subsublord of a planet - KP, Interchange of planet, Percent of distance of a planet from the Earth, Motion of a planet and its direction as to whether it is moving towards the Earth or away from the Earth.
