Queen’s Manor. You
can do much, MUCH
better than this!
Value of the week: Individuality and Freedom of Thought Living in a democracy, we all have a say and we can create change for the better. We are aware of our human rights in school and beyond and we are able to question what we are told. We are currently being given lots of information by politicians—can you think why this is?

Many thanks to those of you who came to the
Friends of Queen’s Manor AGM this morning.
Several of you have expressed an interest in
supporting FoQM more actively, which is great news.
Also on the agenda was this year’s summer
fair, on Saturday 17th June. Despite the
reduced capacity of the site, this year’s fair is
set to be the best ever! With its ‘Carnival’ theme we are
guaranteed a day of non-stop fun and entertainment with
plenty for the whole family to do.
IMPORTANT REMINDER FROM GOVERNORS
The fifth INSET day for the academic year is on
Thursday 8th June.
SCHOOL IS CLOSED TO PUPILS ON THIS DAY.
School is now OPEN on Monday 5th June and
children are expected to attend.
Mrs Harrison spoke during the meeting about the local authority’s wish to be
involved with this year’s fair: they would like to work with the school to really
get the new build off the ground and let everyone know how brilliant it is going
to be. Members of the local authority - including councillors - will be invited to
witness the burial of a time capsule. The time capsule will be a piece of history
for future generations and will give an insight into what life at QM was like in
2017. The local press will also be in attendance and we can’t wait to show off
our school!
HOW CAN YOU HELP? We need to fill the time capsule with mementos and
clues to what life was like for a child at QM in 2017. These items could relate to
current affairs, news, politics, social and educational issues and much more.
The main thing to remember is that this information may well be
underground for many, many years and therefore it cannot be at
risk of rotting or disintegrating. No food please!
If you have an idea for a time capsule item please write it on a
piece of paper, with your name and year group, and post it in
the Tardis by Lenny, by half term. If your suggestion is chosen
for the time capsule you may well be in charge of sourcing it and
bringing it to school after the half term break.
TIP OF THE WEEK
What is private chat? This is using part of a chat room where other people can't see
what you're saying. Never agree to a private chat with someone unless you already know them face-to-face, in real life. You can also have private chats on Instant Messaging (IM). IM is a computer program that allows you to send messages that other users receive straight away - only to do this with people you already know in real life.
Year 4 Enterprise
On Wednesday
some Y4 children
went to Fulham
Cross Girls’ School to learn how to make chutney.
This is the first exercise in their ‘Foods to Market’
project and what a success it has been! The children
left with lots of thoughts
and ideas about what
chutneys and sauces they
could create for Market
Day at their local Whole
Foods store in July.
On Tuesday Year 3 went to Bishop’s
park for a picnic with their Brightwells
penpals. Despite a slight mix-up with
the date, the children had a great time
and were able to finally put faces to the names of
their Y3 friends from Fulham Primary. Another picnic
will be arranged for all of the Brightwells Y3 children,
so that everyone can finally meet their penpal. The
penpal project has been a great
success this year and we will be
continuing it next year in Y3.
Perhaps this year’s children will
carry on their correspondence as
they move up the school?
What a great
reminder of last
week’s science Day!
Best of luck to all our Year 6 and Year 2 children as they
embark on their SATS tests next week. We will ensure
the school is lovely and quiet for you. You need to
ensure you:
Go to bed early
Eat a sensible breakfast
Get to school on time
Try your best
Start stretching folks, because Sports Day is just around
the corner! We will be at Bishop’s Park on Tuesday 23rd
May and , as always, we will be relying
on your support and enthusiasm in all
events. So make sure your trainers are
clean and your sports kits is at the
ready...WE NEED YOU!
We certainly have been putting our 6 R’s into practice this week! Demolition work has started
to the rear of the school, preparing the site for the major building works. The current plan is
that the demolition will take 4 weeks in total, which will take us up to the half term break. Don’t worry, the crew
have factored in all the SATS tests in the next couple of weeks and know exactly when they need to down tools!
Upon successful completion of the demolition work the construction will begin, currently in the calendar for the
beginning of June. Keep an eye on our twitter feed for regular build updates. Well done to the children and staff
for managing the changes to routine so well—remarkable resilience, responsibility and respect for the changes.
Our resilience has also been tested by the two lorries colliding
with the gate post in the past week, neither of which had
anything to do with the planned demolition works!
WHAT A DIFFERENCE A WEEK MAKES!
Tour the City in a Day 20in20 Thursday 25 May From dawn until late night, a series of guided tours, special walks and exclusive events will take place throughout the City of London and beyond, in order to raise £20,000 for the Multiple Sclerosis Trust. This guiding marathon is the brainchild of tour guide Ans Vaessen, who is a City of London Guide, and two other mums (Heleen van Schoonhoven and Monique Jongen). On Thursday 25 May, for 20 hours, you’ll be able take part in a variety of events, from a 6am tour of Smithfield Meat Market (don’t forget your cool bag), a children’s discovery trail after school or a nice outing to discover hidden cocktail places in Soho.
