Summary of the Case

A 38 years old Entrepreneur “Oscar Rodriguez” who is an owner of a

Internet Business. That sells loose Diamonds to everyone. He worked

hard to reach in this position since 1985. He first moved from his

native to Puerto Rico to Gainesville Florida. Then he attends

Community College and started work at local mall for financial

support. After graduation he work hard and receive his diamond

grading certification from the Gemological Institute of America. In

1997 he decided to open his own Jewelry store but his not satisfied.

Then one year later he opens an online selling Diamond shop and it

booms. In three month he sold $2000,000. Now he is a savvy

Entrepreneur and his company Abazias.Com went public in October

2003. In 2004 the business is totally booming he sales $2.06 Million a

140 percent increases from 2003. His database of almost 60,000

available diamonds in one of the largest in the industries, and is

valued according to him at over $350 million now.

1) “Oscar Rodriguez”, a 38 years old Entrepreneur, Owner of a

2) “Oscar Rodriguez”, Roommate, Girlfriend.

3) “Gary Schneider”, a realtor who helped built Rodriguez’s

building.

4) “Howard Freeman”, Rodriguez’s former real-state instructor.

Problem

1) Little ability to speak English.

2) Works at a local mall to support him-self for survive when he

was studying.

3) He didn’t have any idea about jeweler.

Question 1- What factors do you think have contributed to

“Rodriguez’s” success? Was he merely “in the right place at the

right time”, or are there characteristics about him that contribute

his success?

Answer- He is an Optimistic person about his business venture. He

keep working harder about his career. His ambitiousness, extremely

motivation about work, his afford of doing and establishing business

contributed to “Rodriguez’s” success, and his self confidence. He

mere in the right place at the right time and also, there characteristics

about him that contribute to his success.

Question 2- How do you believe Rodriguez would score on the big

five dimensions of personality (extraversion, agreeableness,

conscientiousness, emotional stability, and openness to

experience)? Which ones would he score high on? Which ones he

score low on?

Answer-

a) Extroversion - He is Sociable and Assertive.

b) Agreeableness - He is Good-Natured, Cooperative

and Trusting.

c) Conscientiousness - He is Responsible, Dependable and

Organized.

d) Emotional stability - He is Self-Confident and Secure

Under Stress (Positive).

e) Openness to Experience - He is Imaginative and Sensitive.

He scored high on Agreeableness.

He scored low on Emotional Stability.

Question 3- Do you believe that Rodriguez is high or low on Core

Self-Evaluation? On what information did you base your

decision?

Answer- He is low on core Self-Evaluation.

Question 4- What information about Rodriguez suggests that he

has a proactive personality?

Answer- He is a Reactive Personality, Not a Proactive Personality.
