CALENDAR LOOK-AHEAD
ACCtion Newsletter Association for Catholic Childhood FOR THE CHILDREN…Caring and Advocacy since 1918
CURRENT FUNDRAISERS
Dear ACC Members,
We started this year early with a major task. Should we change our name to “Advocacy and Caring for Children … a Catholic Association since 1918”?
We sent out 485 ballots and received 231 back. That’s a 48% return on the ballots. There were 186 marked “yes” and 45 marked “no,” meaning 80% of the members voting, voted yes.
I want to thank the name change committee headed by Marilyn Price for all the thoughtful and hard work they put in on this project. While the name is not perfect, and we will never get 100% agreement, it is time to move on with the process.
Our 100th anniversary is coming up in 2018. Our plan is to combine the name change transition with our centennial celebration.
We will be forming two committees (Transition and Centennial) that will work closely together during the next year and a half. We are going to need a lot of help to be ready for 2018. We have been caring for children for almost 100 years and it’s time to celebrate our accomplishments and plan our future.
While checking the rules for the name change process, we realized that the by-laws are in desperate need of update and revision. We want to form a committee to start that process. Membership will be a big part of our future. We need to update our information and plan a membership drive.
Speaking of committees, there is also ample opportunity to join one of several existing committees. See information on committees here in this newsletter. You do not have to be on the board to serve on a committee. This is a perfect opportunity for those who can’t make it to the board meetings to participate and contribute to the success of ACC.
Please check out all the information here in the newsletter regarding committee opportunities and fundraising events.
I know that this sounds like a lot and it is. It is more than a few board members can do, but if everyone helps a little, we can move forward with a great plan “for the children.”

COMMITTEE’S FORMING-We Need YOU! ACC is preparing for many exciting events over the next two years and now asks all interested and able Circle members to volunteer by joining a committee. Here’s some of the committees we need help with: 100 Year Celebration. This committee will help plan and prepare for our 2018 events celebration alongside the name change committee.
Advocacy. Team up with committee chair to attend events, help get our name and members out in the community by participating in advocacy.
Board Positions. Our 2nd Vice President and Nominating Committee board positions need to be filled. A sound association has a full board.
Bylaw Review and Edit. We want our bylaws to represent an approach to carry us forward. This clarity will also help new Circles/membership.
Labor of Love Auction Team. Help needed for promotion, procurement (ASAP), data entry and auction close-out. January thru March, 2017.
Membership. We need to form new Circles and add members. Help move ACC into the future by planning a membership drive or bring ideas.
Name Change Transition. We’ll need help with the details, legal and online. We have secured the URL advocacyandcaringforchildren.org. This site will not be active until name is legally changed. There will be many steps; can you help with just a piece of this larger task?
Publicity/Marketing. ACC has granted over $2 million over 10 years, yet we’re not commonly known. Can you help us change this?
Please contact ACC President Maureen Britt ([email protected]) or ACC office @ ([email protected]) to sign up.
WHAT’S YOUR ACC STORY? Every one of us became involved in ACC for a reason. We would love to hear your story, and how you have participated in support our mission as a member of ACC. Some of you may have been involved with adoption, or been a member since your child was a newborn. Others joined because of a family connection. Consider sharing your story with ACC - we are all members of this association because we want to make a difference. Forms will be given to Circle chairs, or write your story down and mail ACC: 100 23rd Ave S, Sea, WA 98144 / email [email protected].

Thank you very much to the following individuals and organizations who generously made gifts in support of the ACC Endowment Fund
between July 1, 2015 and June 30, 2016.
The enclosed list of ACC members and friends who contributed to the ACC Endowment Fund during the last fiscal year is inspiring! The more our Endowment Fund grows because of your gifts and the prudent investment of those gifts, the more generously we are able to respond to the ever-increasing grant requests we receive.
All of the members of the Endowment Development Committee join me in thanking each of you who made a gift to our Endowment this year. We hope that you will continue to give annually, as that is how our Fund will grow. And to those of you who have not previously made an Endowment gift, we hope you will consider making a commitment this year. It is an absolute way to ensure the continuation of support for the children and families we all care about.
