Hadith of the Month

Narrated Muawiya bin Suwaid:

I heard Al-Bara' bin ̀ Azib saying, "The Prophet (ملسو هيلع هللا ىلص) orders us to do seven things and prohibited us from doing seven other things." Then Al-Bara' mentioned the following:-- (1) To pay a visit to the sick (inquiring about his health), (2) to follow funeral processions, (3) to say to a sneezer, "May Allah be merciful to you" (if he says, "Praise be to Allah!"), (4) to return greetings, (5) to help the oppressed, (6) to accept invitations, (7) to help others to fulfill their oaths.

(See Hadith No. 753, Vol. 7)(Reference : Sahih al-Bukhari 1519)

Think Math –Introducing Math Journal

ho would have thought that you can Wjournal in Math class! But here we are introducing Math Journal to the students

to make Math fun.

Math seems to be an uphill task to a few students while not all of them find it strenuous. To make it more interesting to the ones who find it difficult, Math journals have been introduced. So what do they do in Math Journal? Although it seems to be impossible for facilitators to listen to everyone's idea in class, journals seem to be great tools for assessing the student's thought process. Writing Journals can be a very insightful form of assessment. They can serve as an effective and efficient way to check the student’s understanding. Once a lesson is complete, it can be followed with a quick questionnaire for the students to solve. They can then elaborate this activity in their journals.

Writing a journal is a means of recording the student’s learning experiences. It not only helps the students in learning but also provides them with an opportunity to express their thoughts, interrogate and introspect.

“When one teaches, two learn”- Teachers' Appreciation week

hat else could make this day better than an appreciation from the students? 'Teachers' WAppreciation Week' was celebrated in commemoration of Teacher's Day when students came up with unique ways of expressing their heart filled thanks through various gestures to

appreciate their mentors. Teachers have always played a major role in every child's life and the students made the teachers realize the importance of their very presence in everyday life.

This is what our students have to say about their Mentors. “She makes me feel comfortable and she understands me like no one else does.”“You are friendly and I can share everything with you.”“I thank you for making our lessons fun and interesting. And that is why I call you my best teacher.”“It's been quite a 'treat' to be in your class.”“I'm glad that you're my teacher. Thank you for helping me grow.”

PTM- Where the Parent, Teacher and Student connect.

arent–teacher conferences are an important component of ongoing home–school communication Pand family involvement in the child's education. As a parent, you are your child's first and most important teacher. Just like how important your child's progress is, the school also wants them to

be successful in every challenge. IIS accomplished a well-organized PTM after a successful trimester, Alhamdulillah. The children are continuously assessed in various skills of different subjects. Keeping the changing trends in mind, Iqra changed its assessment policy in the year 2015, which seems to be a great success today. Neither students nor the parents are burdened with the stress of exams. Iqra takes this opportunity to thank all the parents for their involvement and commitment to their child's education. The Parent Teacher's Meet was a positive and a productive one. Overall it was a prolific gathering where parents and teachers discussed their concerns regarding the students' performance. The teachers were appreciated for their detailed understanding of the students.

The Montessori Workshop on Exercises of Practical Life and Sensorial Activities

qra International School conducted a workshop on 24th of September for the parents of Montessori Istudents on two areas of Montessori. One being the Exercises of practical life and the other Sensorial activities. This was offered with an intention of educating parents about Montessori curriculum

which is based on specific science-based methods and materials. As Montessori teachers, it is very important that we find a way to help parents understand the developmental principles that we are using to inform our work with the child and surely 'Workshop' is one of the instrumental ways to achieve it. This proves a valuable experience for every Montessori parent. This was also the time to share with the parents the progress the child is making in learning so that the parents can later support their child's independence and continued growth and learning. Our school takes great pride in recognizing how important and successful parent involvement is, and we encourage our parents to take an active role in our school. We believe that parents are an essential part of the Montessori Method, and should be involved as much as possible in their child's educational process.

All the way to Post Office

ften young children are more interested in exploring something new. Students of kindergarten Owere taken to the Post Office as a part of their learning. The students were excited to visit the place as they were eager about knowing what the post box and the letters are. They were taken

around to see how letters are collected, segregated, stamped and then stored in pigeon holes for the postmen to collect. It was altogether a great learning experience especially in this modern era. It was delightful to see the children excited as they posted their envelopes in the post box.

Theme of the Month- Discovering England

he theme of the month for September was the country “England”. Our Iqranians were as innovative Tas always. A lot of informative charts and pictures about England were displayed on the walls of the school. Throughout the month, the children presented their creative charts, speeches, poems and

role plays in their respective classes. On the day of the event, the best ones were chosen to do the presentation.

Our confident speakers gave speeches about the festivals, cuisine, national symbols, tourism and famous personalities of England. The girls of grades 3 and 6 were dressed up beautifully in their attractive gowns representing the attire of English ladies while some boys were dressed as England cricketers. The children of grade 5 had the audience in splits when they did a role play depicting the famous personalities of England like King Henry, Queen Victoria, Queen Elizabeth, Princess Diana, David Beckham, Isaac Newton, Charlie Chaplin and many others. Some of our tech savvy Iqranians did PowerPoint presentations on the tourism and fabrics of England. Alhamdulillah, it was a fun event put up by our kids with a lot of creativity.
