It is with great enthusiasm that we start the 2016-2017 school year here at Assiniboia Composite High. It seems as if we had just handed out report cards in June, and here we are now beginning an exciting new year. Welcome to our new students from AES and surrounding area as you join the ACHS Community… With harvest underway and students returning to the world of academia, the one thing that remains a constant priority is our support for student learning excellence. At ACHS, student learning excellence is what drives the many experiences each student encounters during their tenure. Staff constantly encourages students to strive to be the best they can be and assists those who need that extra time or attention. Life after high school is becoming increasingly competitive and ACHS plans to give its students every chance to be successful in any endeavor they choose. Our school goal for this year is one of culture and building tradition. It is said that traditions never graduate and our hope that each and every student create an impression of commitment and respect for the building we all call ACHS. ACHS would also like to wish all the best to two new additions to the ACHS teaching family. Welcome to Kayla Henderson (Mrs. Delorme) and Jennifer Schmidt (Mr. Chadwick) who will be serving as interns from the University of Regina. To all students and staff, have a great school year! PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Welcome Back to ACHS!!! It is with great enthusiasm that we start the 2016-2017 school year here at Assiniboia Composite High. Attention: Students and Parents Safety is one of the prime concerns that any school is aware of during the school day and even extends to the pre and post school hours of the day. Areas that are also being looked at closely are places like gymnasiums and parking lots. At ACHS, the parking lot is beginning to become an unsafe area with student drivers not following the rules needed for a mass number of cars to exit the confined place in an orderly manner. Parking lot protocol looks like the following:

1) Vehicles yield to busses at all times either entering or exiting the bus lot

2) The speed limit in the parking lot is 20 KM/H

3) Vehicles follow the direction of traffic. Going down the opposite side of the lot or

street is not appropriate.

4) Vehicles do not drive over concrete dividers.

5) Vehicles park in student parking not in the visitor and handicapped zones.

ACHS will be working in conjunction with the RCMP to ensure the safety of all is a top priority over the next weeks. If you are driving, please follow the rules of the parking lot as well as the rules of the road as you enter and depart the school area. The RCMP, along with ACHS, will be monitoring the traffic situation and ensuring those who are unsure of the necessary procedures are informed. Thanks for your help in ensuring that we all return home safe after a day of learning. B Chadwick Principal

Changes to HIP (Homework Intervention Program) Our HIP Program is evolving to ensure that it meets the needs of all students in our building. Should a student not be able to finish an assignment on time, instead of the teacher assigning HIP to them, they will be required to submit a plan for completion to the teacher in order to receive an extension. This new procedure ensures that students are learning the important skills of planning, organization, and problem solving. The HIP room is still available as a support to any student who needs it and students are encouraged to make it part of their plan for completion. HIP EXAMS Should a student have an excused absence the day of an exam they are expected to write it the next day at noon in the HIP Room unless alternate arrangements are made prior to lunch with Ms. Froshaug. Lates/Detention After a student’s third late they will be required to attend detention (in room 8 at lunch) for 30 minutes. Should punctuality be a continuing problem, a meeting will be held with the student, parent, and administration. Lates cannot be cleared. Should your student have a specific instance where they may be late on an ongoing basis (music lessons, medical appointments) please contact Ms. Froshaug to set up a plan. Absences Students who have uncleared absences (skips) will be assigned a noon hour detention per period missed. These detentions will be served in room 8 at lunch time. If your child is absent, please notify the office at 306-642-3319.
