Gabriela Estefania Pineda Alvear [email protected] I pledge to uphold the CEE Honor Code
CEE 422-Construction Planning Assignment # 1
Exercise You are a general contractor and are asked to estimate the total cost of the activities mentioned below. Use RSMeans to estimate your cost and create a spreadsheet similar to the one explained in class and posted on the course web site. Note: (a) assume that the project is in Champaign, IL, (b) use 7.25% as the material's tax rate, and use 5% for material waste (c) the City index should correspond to Champaign area. Please indicate* what version of RSMeans you use for this estimation and the RSMeans reference code and page number for each activity (see posted spreadsheet). Further please explain any assumptions you may make in preparing your estimate.
For this Assignment I used the RS MEANS 2015 :
For the first activity of Earthwork I used
of 1 11

For the activity of METALS I used
of 2 11

For Activity Concrete i used:

For the activity Masonry I selected

For the activity finished I chose

For the factors of material and installation used in Champaign I used the city cost index that is in the next page. For calculating the material WTC , I multiplied the material city cost index of each activity by the waste and tax( these values of waste and tax are given in the assignment)
For calculating the Equipment C, The only factor for the equipment is the installation from champaign city cost index.
For the labor overhead. The crew can be obtained from each activity found in RS Means With that code of crew. I looked each one in the crew pages to know how are they defined and the bare costs, then with that data, I can look for each percentage of workers compensation, average fixed overhead and overhead. (This can be appreciated in the labor overhead table attached)
For calculating the labor FC : I multiplied the labor overhead by installation city cost index from champaign.
Finally, every activity has its own final costs which are calculated for example for the equipment : quantity * Equip $/unit * C and for the total is the sum of each activitys material, cost and equipment.
The adjustment factors mentioned are as it appears in this table:
of 6 11
