Body Content – Part (a)

Explain in details about Safety Management System (SMS) and explain how aviation world implement SMS in daily operation.

What ever we have learned in Lecture 1 until Lecture 6 are actually the general implementation of SMS.

Thus before you explain how SMS is being implemented, discuss in details about the 8 principles of SMS.

Page 6: ASSIGNMENT GUIDELINES SEMESTER NOVEMBER 2011 AVS 2104 – AVIATION SAFETY & SECURITY

There are 8 building blocks (the principles) of SMS which are: Senior management commitment Effective safety reporting (Related with SRM

as well) Continuous monitoring Investigation on safety occurrences Sharing safety lesson learned Integration of safety training Effective implementation of standard operating

All 8 building blocks of SMS should be explained in details. The general information can be found in Lecture 7 slideshow.

Once they were explained, give examples on how they implement that building block.

Actually these 8 building blocks are co-related. Put effort to relate and connect them.

Example of Continuous monitoring implementation. The function of continuous monitoring processes are:

Early detect any criminal action or any suspicious person. From CCTV and observation from security personnel, we

can detect any suspicious act or movement that could lead towards harmful incident.

Prevention is better than cure. Aviation implement continuous monitoring by having

various checking. Examples: Identity check, Baggage scanning and personal check. Even though a person passed identity check, we have to check him again in case he/she brings any illegal item or weapon that could harm others.

All of the 8 building blocks must be explained in details first and only then you elaborate in details how aviation world implemented all of these principles.

Example of explanations on how they implemented is as shown in the previous slide.

For every building block, you should at least have minimum 1 page of explanation. Thus for part (a), actually you can make at

least 8 pages.

Suggestions to improve yourself

If we can think wisely and apply our knowledge in assignment, there should no problem for you to produce more than 10 pages assignment.

This is the reason why you need to read many articles and books.

After reading, close all books or articles and try to write according to your understanding.

My Final Words

Safety & security is not only important in aviation world but to your mark as well.

If you want to be safe, secure yourself by avoiding Copy and Paste! It is time to do it on your own.

If you do copy and paste, it is like you let terrorist to enter the airport, hijack aircraft and finally kill passengers. “No safety, No guarantee”“Prevention is better than

cure”“Secure your assignment

marks or you’ll get zero”

Best regards,Sir ‘Ariff.
