The Second Avenue Subway project is a planned rapid transit subway line that is part of the New York City Subway system. Phase I of the project consists of three stations and two miles of tunnel.

Currently, the upper east side only has one rapid transit and it is the most crowded line in the country. The proposed Second Avenue line will add another two tracks.

The 485-ton tunnel boring machine completed its second pass and reached a milestone of clearing two miles of tunnels.

The first phase of the Second Avenue Project is expected to cost $4.45 billion and it is expected to be completed by December 2016.
