Layering and surface interest also continue, this time with a fractured surface. References :-




SUBMISSION 4 Part 3: The Appropriated and Displaced Image Project: Repeated and Multiple Images Exercise: Multi-Part Images MOUNT SHEET 4 - Larger Work, Finished Piece (stitched to paper for presentation purposes) Multi-Part Images, yarn, printed fabric, wooden dowels, 57 cm x 31 cm (variable) The use of digital manipulation to zoom, crop, mirror and repeat, has been used to construct this work with a variety of carefully selected materials. SUBMISSION 5 Part 3: The Appropriated and Displaced Image Project: History, Intimacy and Narrative Exercise: Creating a Narrative MOUNT SHEET 5 - Larger Work, Photograph of Finished Piece (photograph used for presentation purposes due to weight and fragility) Creating A Narrative, leather, fabric, hammer, nail, buckles, shoe inserts, thread, dye, acrylic paint, on wood, 51 cm x 41 cm x 16 cm (variable) This piece developed from childhood memories, and includes objects to trigger curiosity by the viewer. It maintains the interest in surface details to form sculptural shapes with the selected contrasting materials. References :-

SUBMISSION 6 Part 4: The Expanded Picture Plane Project: Shaped Paintings Exercise: Experimenting With Shaping MOUNT SHEET 6 - Exercise Maquette Experiment with Shaping Maquette, water soluble wax crayons, watercolour, on mountboard, 38 cm x 34 cm MOUNT SHEET 7 - Exercise Work Finished Piece Experiment with Shaping, yarn, thread, Mistyfuse, watercolour, on mountboard Following on with the appeal of yarns and threads, this piece explores their use in a different way while referencing domesticity and suggesting a pattern cutting methodology. The combination of colours suggests physical shapes and form that is enforced by the inset of contrasting colour. This was added after the Assignment submission, together with the threads, based on my intentions documented at the time on my Blog, which has also been updated to reflect the change. References :-

SUBMISSION 7 Part 4: The Expanded Picture Plane Project: Frames and Boxes Exercise: Using Boxes MOUNT SHEET 8 - Exercise Work, Photograph of Finished Piece (photograph used for presentation purposes due to fragility) Using Boxes, Paverpol, fabric, ink, paper, PVA glue, 43 cm x 30 cm x 11 cm (variable) Continuing with a domesticity theme, distorted domestic scenes are depicted on this constructed box. Explorations into using fabric and Paverpol to successfully create a rigid piece also informed subsequent work. References :-




SUBMISSION 8 Part 4: The Expanded Picture Plane Project: Shaped Paintings Exercise: Shaped Painting From Everyday Life MOUNT SHEET 9 - Larger Work, Finished Piece Shaped Painting From Everyday Life, ink, paper, gel medium, Bolon tiles, 79 cm x 53 cm (variable) This piece has been mounted on Mountboard for presentation purposes but I would envisage each panel to be mounted directly onto a wall. Digital manipulation has added further distortion to those created by the memories of wear. References :-





SUBMISSION 9 Part 4: The Expanded Picture Plane Project: Object Paintings Exercise: An Object Painting G DRIVE, Submission 9 – Photo & Submission 9 – Video, Larger Work, Photograph and Video of Finished Piece (digital used for presentation purposes due to size and fragility) An Object Painting, screen printed fabric, wire, yarn, Paverpol, 140 x 90 cm x 50 cm (variable) Further explorations into creating forms with fabric hardened with Paverpol supported the development of this work. Attached threads soften the effect and enable the viewer to feel immersed in the work, as is reflected in the experimental video. References :-

SUBMISSION 10 Part 5: The Multi-dimensional Image or Scene Project: Three Dimensional Tableaux or Diorama Exercise: Plan a Diorama MOUNT SHEET 10, Larger Work, Photographs of Finished Piece (photographs used for presentation purposes due to fragility) Plan a Diorama, wooden blind slats, acrylic mirror, ink, paper, PVA glue, card, jewellery thread, Sellotape, card box, 47 cm x 33 cm x 33 cm Monochrome against colour and urban against countryside, with their associated shapes are the main focus for this piece. The images show the movement of the shapes, reflecting the impact on the local population, unpredictable as well as predictable. References :-




SUBMISSION 11 Part 5: The Multi-dimensional Image or Scene Project: Real and Illusory Spaces and Places Exercise: Non Art Spaces MOUNT SHEET 11, Larger Work, Finished Piece Non Art Spaces, photograph, 40.5 cm x 30 cm Continuing with the interest in nature, a variety of presentation ideas have been explored for an investigation into a desert-like area of Spain with unexpected finds. However this piece reflects the inevitable outcome of the natural cycle, snails, vegetation and soil become one – soil. Plastic remains as plastic. References :-





SUBMISSION 12 Part 5: The Multi-dimensional Image or Scene Project: Final Project MOUNT SHEET 12, Photographs of Experimental Work Final Project, ten photographs, 14 cm x 14 cm each Following on from the earlier investigation into urban versus countryside, this work identifies a connection through diverse materials. This is a time-line portrayal of a selection of explorations into bringing together these contrasting materials, some successful, others not. References :-
