2. Introduction

The fire-retardant roller screen is an entry delay door and is not suitable for daily use.

This fire-retardant roller screen is intended only to separate linked space in case of fire or smoke

development, this in connection with the so-called fire penetration towards adjacent spaces. The fire-

retardant roller screen could be part of a fire-retardant system.

This could be a fire alarm system.

The fire-retardant roller screen will be operated only by a technician of the installation company. The user

himself does not need to operate the fire-retardant roller screen.

3. Safety

When assembling the fire-retardant roller screen, the safety regels should always be observed, for instance,

personal protective equipment.

The directions in these operating instructions must be strictly followed.

The attachments to this document must be strictly observed during the installation of the electrical devices.

Any damage, injury and the like sustained as a consequence of non-compliance with these operating

instructions cannot be recovered from the manufacturer of the fire-retardant roller screen.

Follow the adjustment, maintenance and inspection operations. These activities may be performed only by

qualified personnel. Only the original components of the manufacturer may be used. Any deviation from this

will cause the responsibility as well as the warranty to expire.

3.1 Safety regulation

- The tube motor is thermally protected; motor protection thermally allows 8 movements 24 hours,

pay attention to this when tuning the motor.

- Smoke detectors, temperature detectors, fire alarm system.

3.2 Safety regulations

- In case of fire or smoke development being detected, the fire-retardant roller screen will always “go

down”, so the possible presence of persons or objects will not be taken into account.

- In case of maintenance/inspection on the fire-retardant roller screen, the installation must voltage-

free.

- The fire-retardant roller screen should not be part of an escape route.

3.3 Other risks

Regular use:

Entrapment could occur when the fire-retardant roller screen is “going down”.

The function of the fire-retardant roller screen does not take account of any persons or objects being present

while “going down”.

The risk that a person gets entrapped is unlikely, due to the weight and the pace of “going down”.

4. Product

The fire-retardant roller screen is a vertically closing canvas, intended as a closure of the openings in

partitioning walls. Under normal circumstances, the fire-retardant roller screen is rolled up and protected by

means of a metal casing. At the side of the wall opening, guide profiles ensure the sealing. A fire-retardant

roller screen consists of the following components, see table 1.

5.1 Essential “tools” for assembly

Please find below a list that includes a number of tools:

- Drill hammer with different drills (depending on subsurface, e.g. stone or metal);

- Extension cable;

- Motor adjusting retractable cable;

- Fastening materials for the assembly of the guides on the façade/wand;

- Means to neatly conceal or attach the cable of the motor and the peripheral equipment;

- Stepladder, cherry picker or ladder;

- During the assembly of a wide or high fire-retardant roller screen, make use of hoisting or lifting

installations, in connection with the Health & Safety legislation;

- Standard tools;

- Possibly, this list is not exhaustive in your opinion. This overview however, is but a mere

indication of the type of tools that could be used.

5.2 Check on the operating area

Before you can start the assembly of the fire-retardant roller screen, you must first check the following:

- Check whether the electrical connections are present;

- Check whether the voltage corresponds with what is stated in the order confirmation;

- Check whether the (structural) width and the (structural) height correspond with the details in the

order confirmation;

- Check whether there are obstacles in the area where the fire-retardant roller screen will be

placed;

- Check whether there is sufficient room for the installation of the control;

- Check whether the walls are “absolutely” vertical.

Activities on the electrical equipment of the machine may only be performed by electro-technical expert

personnel and only in voltage-free conditions (disconnected main switch, interrupted power supply), in

accordance with the electrical regulations.

All activities regarding the industrial door, such as maintenance and repair activities, as well as checks, may

only be performed during interrupted operation.

Before activating/commissioning the industrial door, you must guarantee that no one can be endangered as

a consequence of operating the industrial door.

5.3 Assembly sequence

7. Assembly

7.1 Dimensioning

Check the exact structural width and height. Your

fire-retardant roller screen was tailor-made

especially for you, on the basis of the structural

measurements you provided. These measurements

provided must also always be the starting point for a

correct assembly! Check in advance whether the

finished floor, the vertical assembly surfaces and the

horizontal girder/lintel were applied level! Check the

availability of the required free headroom, side

space and installation depths.

7.2 Side guides

Firstly, temporarily position the side guides and

base plate with slot on both sides of the clearance

opening, by use of, for instance screw clamps. The

inner side of the lower plate of the side guide

must be made equal to the structural size

ordered. In many cases this will be equal to the

reveal. Ensure that the side guides are positioned

level and check this. Once the side guides are

properly positioned, they can be attached to the

wall construction. Make sure that the fastening

materials applied are positioned at the centre of

the slotted holes. PLEASE NOTE! Do not use plugs

or other fastening materials that are NOT resistant to

high temperatures.

right above the guides using at least 2 M8

bolts. Please note! Do not use plugs or

other fastening materials that are NOT

resistant to high temperatures.

7.4 Flame reversal profile

Place the flame reversal sleeve 40x25 mm above the structural dimension between the consoles. Distribute

them such that equal space remains to the left and right. The lower side of this profile will be even with the

top side of the rear half of the guide, =15 mm above the lower side of

the console. Please note! Do not use plugs or other fastening

materials that are NOT resistant to high temperatures.

7.5 Box bracket/roll support

If your fire-retardant roller screen is

fitted with box brackets/roll

supports, then evenly divide these,

applying spaces between the

brackets. Position the top side of the

bracket at the same height as the top

side of the console plates. Please

note! Do not use plugs or other

fastening materials that are NOT

resistant to high temperatures.

13.0 In case of skewed rolling of the canvas

Enclosed components were additionally supplied in case the FS2 fire-retardant

roller screen would possibly roll up skewed.

These do not need to be assembled as standard, only in cases that the canvas

pulls to one side (rolls up skewed) as a result of which it could get stuck.

These will then be mounted at the side pulled out of the guide, at the bottom of

the canvas, position a corner bracket on each side of the canvas, corresponding

to the image below and set them directly opposite each other. Make use of an

auxiliary if necessary, e.g. a small screw clamp. Drill the three holes using a 5

mm drill and make the three connections using the three included blind rivets.

15.0 Maintenance and cleaning

For the correct functioning of the installation, it is imperative that periodic maintenance takes place. If the

annual minimal (1x per year) inspection is not performed, the warranty will expire.

Next Door Systems B.V. therefore recommends that you enter into a maintenance contract with your

installer. The maintenance must be performed by a qualified and expert installer.

The following components (matters) need inspection:

- Visually check all components for damage;

- All fastening materials, are they still present and do they function properly;

- Attachment of the end strips on the guides;

- Opening of the guides;

- Course of the canvas in the guides, tube slide;

- Canvas attachment to the motor tube;

- Check canvas for damage, the seams in particular;

- Check wiring, has it not been damaged;

- End-contacts, is the “course” of the canvas still appropriate;

- Motor control/peripheral equipment for correct functioning;

- Replace batteries 8 pieces AAA in control box.

Each fire-retardant roller screen is equipped with an identification plate stating the type, supplier, year of

manufacture, and order number, these will be supplied individually and had best be attached at eye level.

Cleaning

Cleaning of the installation must be done periodically, this is your responsibility. You are able to make a good

estimate as to when the installation should be cleaned. The components in the casing will be inspected by a

technician during maintenance and cleaned if necessary. While cleaning, attention should be paid to the

following:

- Use the correct cleaning agent (read the label before use, so the right cleaning agent is applied), No cleaning agents should be used (bear in mind the lacquer here, or other surfaces) that could

harm, man, animal or the environment;

- Use the proper quantity of cleaning agent; - Dilute the cleaning agent with lukewarm water; - Do not use a pressure washer; - Do not use hard brushes that could damage the surface of the fire-retardant roller screen; - Do not use abrasive sponges and the like.
