HOW CAN I FINDWHOLE GRAIN FOODS?

• Outer shell protects seed
• Fiber, B vitamins, trace minerals
• Provides energy
• Carbohydrates, protein
Look for the word “whole” beforethe type of grain near the top ofthe ingredients list. For example, “whole wheat” or “whole grain oats.”
Look for the Whole Grains Council’s Stamp on packages. These stamps tell you if the food provides at least 8 grams or at least 16 grams of whole grain. At least 48 grams (or 3 servings) of whole grain are recommended daily.
Foods that are high in fi ber do NOT always have whole grains.

Whole Grains are made up of
three parts
They may lower the risk of heart disease and certain cancers plus help maintain a healthier body weight.
