ACKNOWLEDGEMENTI would like to express my gratitude to all those who gave me the possibility and encouragement to complete this assignment.I deeply appreciate my respected lecturer, Mr. Abdul Rauf Krishnamurthy B. Abdullah whose help, suggestions, knowledge, experience and guidance helped me in all the times of the tutorial sessions. It was a really good and knowledgeable experience with all his courage given. Not forgetting to all of my friends and colleagues in school for assisting me in completing the tasks, sharing ideas and giving opinions always. Most especially I am blessed to have a family for being supportive while I was working on these assignments. And importantly to Allah , who had always made all things possible in the journey of my life always. Thank you.

Good morning to my fellow parents and teachers of the association. Its a pleasure to be here today and to share even a short time with members of a group to whom we owe a great deal. The PTA is one of the best examples I can find of a working partnership. Be with people with different perspectives and backgrounds joined together in a common cause, namely preparing our children to inherit the world. In the most general sense, I see the PTA as among our most effective tools for maintaining community consensus about the value of public education and as institution that goes back to the very beginnings of Malaysian history and one which I wholeheartedly support.More specifically, I also see the PTA as a critical link in our chain of efforts to secure for every children of Sekolah Kebangsaan Kebun Sireh that will prepare them to succeed in the 21st century. I said a chain because meeting this challenge is not just a job for school. Rather, it will require the joint efforts of all of us which are, teachers, parents, students, government, private sector business and industry. In fact, a partnership in the truest sense of the word.Today, I would like to focus my remarks on matters that have been identified previously during our first PTAs meeting. It includes parents concern about the poor performance of their children. Cause and effect to the performance. We also want to find solutions to overcome the problem and discuss on how to solve the insufficient funds to carry out the school project. But before I go any further, I want to emphasize that just because we are now engaged raising standards does not mean that our school have been substandard. It simply means that the world has changed. There have been a major concerns from parents relating to their children poor performance in academic in this school. Many pupils seem to have difficulties with Science, Mathematics and English Language. Now we will look at the causes.Recently, there have been major changes in syllabus. As our education policies and methods nowadays are keep improving, parents and teachers should be aware of such situations. Educating children has always been important. In a simpler world, that was a simpler task.Children today are not as the same as we were before. Such poor performance in academic maybe affected by the ways that teachers use to teach the pupils. Lack of understanding of the topics or concepts of these subjects may lead o failure. We live in an age where many of us are working parents. Our challenge is to juggle our family responsibilities with our highly demanding jobs at office. Many parents share of their stress and frustration at not being able to spend enough time with their children. Like these working parents, I certainly feel torn at times between the seemingly competing demands of two worlds. I want to offer hope and promise to all working parents. The message is that it can be done. While the reality is that we have less time to spend with our children, lets remember that quality is more important than quantity. Even if you had 24 hours to spend with them, the time counts for nothing unless the quality of our engagement with them is real. Lots of parents are busy with their routines and daily work. Some of them get out from home at eight in the morning and come home at seven in the evening. What are our kids doing at that period of time. They need attention. To gain the attention, they start to do all the negative actions. Because of that, we can see that nobody monitor them at home and the major problem arise. Like not finish their homework and playing truant.Environment is an important thing to note. The challenges facing urban school systems are not entirely unique to metropolitan areas, nor are all urban school systems confronted with the same challenges. Urban schools do, however, share some unique physical and demographic characteristics that differentiate them from suburban and rural school districts. Unlike suburban and rural school districts, urban school districts operate in densely populated areas serving significantly more students. In comparison to suburban and rural districts, urban school districts are frequently marked by higher concentrations of poverty, greater racial and ethnic diversity, larger concentrations of immigrant populations and linguistic diversity, and more frequent rates of student mobility (Kincheloe, 2004, 2010).Here are six clear suggestions in order to solve the problem. First, we need to do extra class, parents should spent more time with kids, motivation, prepare more reading materials for students, teachers should be more proactive and use types of multimedia in teaching and learning process.School should do extra class for the pupils. The aim as a reinforcement for good pupils and remedial for weak pupils. In fact, many students have difficulty to keep up with other students in their class, so going to extra classes is an ideal way to fill in the part of lessons they do not understand. In addition, as extra coaching classes generally specialize in a particular subject, the teaching method is much more better than at school and students are able to practice solving exercise problems from a variety of resource. Although self-study is also an effective way to improve their study, some students find it hard to practice this method because the lack of resource for practice problems solving and someone to explain to them. Furthermore, in the extra coaching classes, students can also improve their social skill, which is very important in their lives and usually requires in almost every career. Even though spare time after school studies should be spent on playing or other leisure activities, children can also do these activities at the weekend and spend the weekdays studying hard. Besides, the break time between classes allows students to play games and do some leisure activities such as reading books or listening to music. My second point is parents should spend more time with children. I have stressed earlier that working parents can and should monitor childrens school work, ensuring that they are enjoying and engaging in the school curriculum. Helping with their homework and more importantly helping them apply some of the basic skills they have learnt to their home life are among the things we can do as working parents to encourage and support what theyre learning in school. However, Ive always believed that education is not limited to schooling. There are many learning activities we can do with our children that will help them acquire knowledge about the world and critical thinking and language skills. For example, to teach a child the science of trees and plants, you could spend 30 minutes in the garden helping them plant some seeds, and over time watching them grow. To teach them to apply the principles of mathematics, you could open a pretend shop at home, give your child some coins, and get them to be the shopkeeper, which will involve applying additions and subtractions to ensure the customers get the correct change. To teach them how to analyze spatial relations between objects and projective thinking, you could play a simple board game with them, whether chess, or checkers, or othello (reversi). And nothing beats just reading them bedtime stories, and having conversations about these stories, to strengthen their language prowess. These activities dont take a long time, perhaps 20-30 minutes each and the goal should be to do one activity a day. For working parents, time with our children is so precious. Therefore, we need to be careful with the time we have with them. The point is that we should not underestimate how much we can achieve in the limited time we have. Remember, its not the quantity, but the quality that counts the most.Pupils should be motivated all the time. With a little help and encouragement from parents, I believe that these pupils could achieve better results in their examinations. Parents concerns and teachers attention may help pupils to feel more useful and inspired to be more than an ordinary person.School should provide more reading materials to students so that they can access it freely. Reading is recognized as an art capable of transforming mans life and his entire society. For inculcating the habits of reading from the childhood, the recommendation by Panigrahi and Panda, 1996 is very relevant here. That school libraries should create an environment conducive to reading so that the children feel at home and comfortable. Teachers need to encourage the students to read more books, magazines and newspapers regularly. After that, request parents to subscribe to good newspapers and magazines for their homes matching the tastes of their children. Last but not least, school should organize debate and essay competitions, story hours, chat shows exhibitions, quiz hours at regular intervals so as to generate reading interest and information gathering habit.Good schools are made not just by good facilities of fancy stone walls which is sure they help, but it is the wealth of its teachers. Our teachers are our strength and a very dynamic part of our PTA. Teachers should be proactive in attracting pupils to listen to them by giving rewards to the students that achieve in their exams. Teachers also should identify pupils problem and try to discuss and solve it.Teacher should use new types of media such as computers, videos, audios and all sort of communication technologies. Activities such as field trips, games, excursion and so on. Students spend copious amounts of their free time socializing, shopping, and even studying on the Internet, where they are flooded with text, images, video, animation, and sound in what is a complex multimedia environment. The younger generation is intimately familiar with multimedia, accustomed to receiving and sharing information in a range of formats. In contrast, students spend most of their time in the classroom viewing printed text and listening to a teacher. This disconnect is troublesome. While students are accustomed to having a range of means to communicate and process information outside of school, they must conform to a more restrictive media environment within school. Printed text is one-size-fits-all, but students' learning strengths, needs, and interests are all over the map. Thus, the traditional print-driven curriculum raises a number of barriers to access and learning. Integration of multimedia into instruction can help to reduce curriculum barriers and improve learning for all students. In order to support all the school projects, school should have funds. Lack of funding may interrupt the process of teaching learning for our children. Here are four main activities or events that can be carried out. There are fees collection, mini carnival, Charity Clothes Collection and Annual Gala Dinner. For the fees collection it is compulsory for the pupils to pay it annually. This is to support all the activities that going to be carry out throughout the year. The PTA works for the benefit of all our children through various initiatives including developing playground facilities and equipment, providing resources for the school library and classrooms, and organizing major event. We need the support of all parents to continue to do this.We are going to do mini carnival. Lots of stalls will be selling variety of food , things and activities. The profit will be used to support for all the school project. School carnivals have proven time and time again to be the most successful tool to fundraise and build good relationship among parents, teachers, students and the surrounding community. Its easy to fall into a carnival rut. Get teachers and administration staff involved. Show that it truly is a community effort. Leverage students interest in seeing teachers outside the classroom. Let people know what our school is all about. Ultimately the funds raised will be helping students as well as the staff. Show people who attend the carnival that we know what it means to be a part of the team and how great our students are. Not only will this make the carnival a success, but it will promote a great reputation for our school.Next, we will be organizing the Charity Clothes Collections. This is a chance for you to clear of your wardrobe for charity. An Angel Bins Fundraising Coordinator from Kuala Lumpur will help us to put together a successful clothing drive. They will guide us through the entire process from start to finish and give us tips to ensure our clothing drive will be a great experience for all involved. When they come to pick up our donations, their trucks will weigh our donations on the spot and tell us how many Ringgits we have collected. The money that we will earn will depend on how much we collect; so the more we collect, the more we can earn. Make sure we reach out to our neighbours and people at work as well. A typical clothing drives can earn us approximately RM1,000 but many of non-profit customers have earned much more so it all depends on how aggressively we market our clothing drive. The Angel Bins Fundraising Coordinator will pay us within two weeks of our pick-up date. For more details all of you can search the info in the website. This year, we will organize The Annual Gala Dinner. In a perfect world, planning a fundraiser or gala dinner event would be a breeze. Generous sponsors would pay for all our food, entertainment, and accommodations while guests would be more than eager to donate to our cause. Unfortunately, planning a gala event in the real world involves quite a bit more preparation. The perfect gala dinner requires seeking sponsorship and volunteers, but executing these steps effectively can work wonders. It is one of the best ways to gain support for our school. A successful gala dinner takes a great deal of planning and preparation. Ensuring everything is in order before a single guest arrives will allow the evening to flow smoothly and present our school in a professional light. Fundraisers are essential in the growth of any business or non-profit organization, and the effective management of each step is the key to a memorable evening. I do hope that we support our PTA. You can do this through donating money as you have gradually done or through sharing your time, talents and expertise.Education is a life- long learning. The roles of parents, school and teachers are important in influence the children and develop their full potential to give positive contribution to our nation. We as parents and teachers must be proactive. As Michael Jordans quote, Some people want it to happen, some wish it to happen and others make it happen. As a conclusion, I would like to thank the parents and teachers of Sekolah Kebangsaan Kebun Sireh for being here today. Your willingness to take an active part in our childrens education and to be closely involved are most appreciated. As we approach the 21st century, the doors of opportunity stand wide. We must equip our children to walk through them. That is what this is all about. With that, thank you.
