Indonesian cuisine represents a wide variety of cultures. Even in Jakarta, one can find restaurants serving a great number of traditional Indonesian dishes from several regions.

Indonesian cuisine is not only influenced by its diverse population, but also by an impressive number of foreign cultures. Ingredients, cooking methods, and preparation techniques are rooted in multi-cultural traditions, ranging from India and the Middle East to China and Europe.

Native spices, such as cloves and nutmeg are important parts of Indonesian cuisine.
