Tokyo, the capital of Japan is the most populous metropolitan area in the world. It is one the 47 prefectures of Japan, and consists of 23 central city wards and multiple cities, towns and villages west of the city center. It is the seat of the Emperor of Japan and the Japanese government. Tokyo is ranked first in the Global Economic Power Index and fourth in the Global Cities Index. Tokyo has the Japan’s largest museum; Tokyo National Museum specializing in traditional Japanese art. Tokyo has an unlimited choice for entertainment, shopping, culture and dining to the visitors. The history can be appreciated in districts such as Asakusa, and in many excellent museums, historic temples and gardens. Tokyo also has a number of attractive green spaces in the city and within relatively short train rides at its outskirts. The majority of Tokyo lie in the humid subtropical climate zone, with warm humid summers and generally cool winters with cold spells. The region, like much of Japan, experiences a one-month seasonal lag, with the warmest month being August, which averages 26.4 °C (79.5 °F), and the coolest month being January, averaging 5.2 °C (41.4 °F).
