This summer come and enjoy the vibrant tangled townscapes and flying landscapes of the work of Lance Ribeiro in our new exhibition. Learn more about the artist from his friend and colleague Patrick Boylan and enjoy a celebration of his work as Darjeeling Express hosts two special evenings with a banquet inspired by the paintings.
The popular summer Museum tours are returning, this year we explore Burma with tours of the V&A and take a closer look at the fine Buddhist manuscripts on display at the British Library.
We also present the rare opportunity to see one of the finest classical guitarists Xuefei Yang as she presents a special repertoire, demonstrating the universal language of music.

Xuefei Yang PerformanceEast Meets West
Wednesday 19 June 18.45 – 20.00
Lebanese Jana Elhassan and Saudi Arabian Mohammed Hassan Alwan are both shortlisted for the 2013 ‘Arabic Booker’, prestigious International Prize for Arabic Fiction (IPAF).
Both author’s work explores the complications of family life and themes of migration, memory and destiny. In Elhassan’s Me, She and the Other Women, a woman left frustrated and lonely by her marriage constructs a new identity in her imagination. Hassan Alwan’s The Beaver plots a man’s memories of a fragmented and troubled family history as he embarks on a series of fishing trips in the USA, far from his Saudi Arabian homeland.
Elhassan and Hassan Alwan discuss their work and the contemporary literary scene in the Middle East and wider Arab world.

Xuefei Yang is acclaimed as one of the world’s finest classical guitarists. She has performed as a soloist and in leading orchestras worldwide including the RPO, Hong Kong and Hamburg Symphony Orchestras and in venues including the Royal Albert Hall and Philharmonie Berlin.
In a programme devised for Asia House she plays traditional Chinese music and pieces by both Western and Eastern composers. The globalisation of classical music is largely thought of as West influencing East, yet Xuefei demonstrates how cultural influence flows in both directions. She pairs Debussy, who was famously inspired by Hokusai and ukiyo-e art with the 20th century Japanese composer Takemitsu. Tickets £15AH Friends £10

ance Ribeiro (1933-2010) was born in Bombay to a long-established Catholic Goan family. In 1958, he abandoned
the path of chartered accountancy, took up painting and, within a few years had become a successful artist. He had two major retrospectives in the 1980s and his last public showing was in Britain just three months before his death in 2010.
Ribeiro’s art was highly original and his output was prolic. Although he received early acclaim for his art he began to get exceedingly restless. He worked at an incredible rate and began to experiment with polyvinyl acetate (PVA) paints, which as the forerunners of acrylics, are now used by artists the world over. Sadly, he was never recognised for his role in one of the most signicant advances in artistic technique of the twentieth century.
