    ASIAN ECONOMY

    Asia has the second largest nominalGDP of all continents, after Europe, but thelargest when measured in purchasing power parity. As of 2010, the largesteconomies in Asia are China, Japan, India, South Korea and Indonesia. Based onGlobal Office Locations 2011, Asia dominated the office locations with 4 of top 5were in Asia, Hong Kong, Singapore, Tokyo, London and Shanghai. Around 68percent of international firms have office in Hong Kong.

    Asia is the largest continent in the world by a considerable margin, and it is rich innatural resources, such as petroleum, forests, fish, water, rice, copper and silver.Manufacturing in Asia has traditionally been strongest in East and Southeast Asia,particularly in the China, Taiwan, South Korea, Japan, India, the Philippines,and Singapore. Japan and South Korea continue to dominate in the areaof multinational corporations, but increasingly the PRC and India are makingsignificant inroads. Many companies from Europe, North America, South Korea andJapan have operations in Asia's developing countries to take advantage of itsabundant supply of cheap labour and relatively developed infrastructure.

    Also contributing greatly to the income of many Asian countries are vital

    mineral exportspetroleum in SW Asia, Russian Asia, and Indonesia and

    tin in Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia. Asia's other valuable mineral

    exports include manganese from India and chromite from Turkey and the

    Philippines; China produces great amounts of tungsten, antimony, coal,

    and oil.

    Singapore has one of the busiest ports in the

    world and is the world's fourth largest

    foreign exchange trading.

    Mumbai is one of the most populous cities on

    the continent. The city is an infrastructure and

    tourism hub, and plays a crucial role in the

    Economy of India.

    ASIAN INDUSTRIES

    Agriculture-based industries (lumbering, agrarian, fishing, etc.):

    The whole stretch beginning from Pakistan and extending to India,

    Bangladesh, Cambodia, Vietnam and southern China is densely

    populated. The cultivation of rice and some cash crops is the primaryeconomic activity in this belt.

    Mineral-based industries (metallurgy, petroleum, etc.):The vast

    land expanses in Asia are rich in natural resources, from theabundantly available metals across Russia to the oil fields spread

    over the western part of the continent.

    Manufacturing-based industries (automotive, electronics,textile, etc.):East Asia is one of the worlds leading manufacturing

    regions. The Asian industry in this region is vast in both expanse

    and variety. Across China, Japan, South Korea and Taiwan, goods

    as cheap as toys to as high value as cars are manufactured.

    Industry giants such as Samsung, Toshiba, Toyota, and Honda are

    based here.

    Services-based industries (finance, IT, BPO, etc.):Six of the

    worlds most important financial centers are located in Asia. Indiahas emerged as one of the world's leading exporters of services

    related to information technology.
