The question isn’t a new one; however, new research now people are categorized by top and bottom brain along with right and left brained based on certain actions. Basically, the brain is split into two hemispheres: the right side and the left side. Each side controls different functions and processes. As odd as it may seem, the right side of the brain controls the left side of the body’s actions while the left side of the brain controls the right side of the body. The term you are right brained or you are left brained stands for the differences in the way people think and process information. There tends to be more left brained people rather than right brained, but research has proven that neither one is better than the other. According to the research right brained people are more creative, intuitive, artistic, and picture oriented. These people use feeling and are risk takers. People who are right brained are typically found in careers such as designing, entrepreneurs, sales, artists, musicians and athletics. Left brained people use logic and are detail and fact based oriented and reality based. These people form strategies and play it safe. Left brained people partake in careers such as lawyers, accountants, scientists, programmers, bankers and athletics. “I think the right vs left theory and the impacts it has on the different way we think is completely true. I’m more right-brained and it opens up a whole different view point compared to the left-brained people who are more logical,” junior Kelli Johnson said. “You just have a different perspective on certain things which is part of what makes everyone so unique and original. When it comes to athletics, I’m still very competitive, but my right sides probably still more dominant. Being creative is just natural to me, but to play sports and be physically fit you really have to work towards it to be successful.Athletes, according to the latest research, don’t truly fall into specifically the right or the left side category. Most athletes are trained to use both sides equally in order to have an ideal performance in a sport. The right side helps to control emotions, balance, intensity, confidence and mental toughness which are all important keys in athletics. The left brain activities in athletes include game plans, muscle building, strategy, technique, speed and agility. Athletes that are lacking specific activities from one side of the brain often don’t have as of a successful performance as an athlete that is trained to utilize critical skills from both hemispheres of the brain. “As a three sport athlete I’m definitely more left brained, but in athletics it’s very important for me to be able to use both sides,” sophomore Victoria Schwartz said. “We constantly switch back and forth from the right to left without even knowing in order to perform different activities. I rely on my left side for our game plans and technique, but also have to apply the right side at the same time for confidence and the mental toughness side in sports,” While we normally just hear about right vs left brained, and with recent studies confirming there are also top vs. bottom brained people, what about people that don’t tend to use one area of the brain over the others?. “Left or Right? I think I use both sides because I am both left and right -handed,” junior Elijah Robles said. “If I had to choose, I would say I am more left-brained, definitely more logical, not creative. Are you right

brained or left brained? The question isn’t

a new one; however, new research now people are categorized by top and bot-

tom brain along with right and left brained based on certain actions.

Basically, the brain is split into two hemispheres: the right side and the left side. Each side controls different functions and processes. As odd as it may

seem, the right side of the brain controls the left side of the body’s actions while the left side of the brain controls the right side of the body.

The term you are right brained or you are left brained stands for the differences in the way people think and process information. There tends to be more left brained people rather than right brained, but research has proven

that neither one is better than the other. According to the research right brained people are more creative, intuitive, artistic, and picture oriented. These people use feeling and are risk takers. People who are right brained are typically found in careers such as designing, entrepreneurs, sales, art-ists, musicians and athletics.
