He lives because God lives and because God’s love lives. For us, that is enough. We can brood over the “how,” but nothing will change regarding the “that.” If God lives – that is if love now lives in spite of the cross – then we are no longer living in our guilt, for God has indeed forgiven us. He has committed himself to Jesus, and Jesus has committed himself to us. If Jesus lives, then our faith receives new meaning. Then we are the most blessed of human beings. A yes from God to guilty humanity, a new meaning for all our doing – that is Easter. --Dietrich Bonhoeffer Easter Sunday, April 21 st 8:45 am – The Path Worship Service 9:45 am – Sunday School 11:00 am – Traditional Worship Service

God’s Word of Power

God spoke his word of power over death. He annihilated it and raised Jesus Christ. What does that mean? How are we to understand it? This raises a lot of questions for us. What is this bodily resurrection? What is the meaning of the empty tomb? How do we understand the appearances? There is abundance of questions – of curiosity, of interest in superstitions, of many mysterious things -- about which we can gain no pleasure. The questions grow from a hundred to a thousand, and we’re still not satisfied. The empty tomb must surely have happened, but only one thing is important: God committed himself to Christ and touched him with his eternal life. Now Christ lives.

Around Ashland

Annual Mother’s Day offering for Epworth Children’s Home is Sunday, May 12th. Special offering envelopes will be provided for you to make a donation. Note: Epworth Children’s Home does not receive monies from conference apportionments. This is a note of thanks for your donation of toothbrushes for the people of Guatemala. We held a dental clinic, medical clinic, and Vacation Bible School for the Villagers of Nahuala in Guatemala. One day our clinic pulled 50 teeth which emphasized the need for preventive dental care in that village. Thanks so much for the gift which will help so many people in Guatemala. We heard stories of entire families sharing one toothbrush so that should help so many more folks than we realize. ~Guatemala Mission Team, Union UMC Cliff and Amy Jeffcoat extend a heartfelt thanks to Ashland's members who supported their bar-b-que dinner to raise money for their mission trip to Zimbabwe. They earned approximately $1600 from this dinner and were extremely grateful that Ashland continues to support them in their missionary endeavors. Thank you Ashland Family for all of your expressions of concern during Michael’s recent hospitalization. Your prayers lifted us up. The card, flowers and kind words gave us strength when we needed it most. Michael is resting at home now. We are so thankful that he is getting better everyday. Love, Barbara, John and Michael Higgins Small Dinner Group Sign-up: Contact Beth Wilkinson at [email protected] or (803) 530-0871.

Book Fair -- 2019

Ashland is once again seeking to raise funds to buy each child at Seven Oaks a book at the book fair which will be held in May. The cost of a voucher for one child is $6.00. The cost to sponsor a class is $100. Our goal is $3,600 which is enough to buy every child at Seven Oaks a book. Payments should be made to Ashland church, marked “book fair”. We hope to conclude the fundraising by the end of April. Excess funds will be given to the teachers to buy books for their individual class libraries. Thanks for helping with this worthwhile project.

We are in need of additional members to serve as: a) Greeters (prior to Path Service, Sunday School, and the Traditional Service); b) Welcome Center Advocates (To hand out printed materials and answer potential questions from potential new members, and to assist other members as needed; After Path Service, and prior to and immediately after the Traditional Service), c) Refile name tags for about twenty minutes anytime Monday-Thursday morning. If you can help, (please do): Contact Rebecca Swanson: [email protected]. Many thanks!! Rebecca Swanson

Successful Snack Pack Mission! A seven-year-old child clutches a bag of food tightly as she boards the school bus on Friday afternoon. The bag contains 16 food items that she can eat during the weekend when food is scarce in her home and her next regular meal is school breakfast on Monday. This child is one of 57 students at Seven Oaks Elementary who receive a “Snack Pack” from Ashland UMC each Friday. Ashland is completing its third year of providing weekly Snack Packs to children at Seven Oaks Elementary School. During the 2018–19 school year, we provided over 1900 snack packs containing over 30,400 food items! Thank you to the classes, circles, and individuals who make Ashland’s Snack Pack ministry a success! Our Snack Pack supporters donate food and financial support, work at the community food drive, prepare double bags, shop for food, pack food items in each Snack Pack, and deliver Snack Packs to the school each week. There is a place for you in the Snack Pack ministry. During summer months, you can donate items to prepare for the new school year. Most needed items are 15 oz. cans of pasta meals (spaghetti, ravioli, etc.), 15 oz. cans of soup (chicken noodle or chicken & rice), and juice boxes. Place food donations in the orange crate near room 102. Contact Val Songer for more information. THANK YOU to Ashland for feeding hungry children in our community!
