Journeying Through Lent
The following are traditional Lenten disciplines:
Fasting & Abstinence: Catholics of age 14 and older
abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday, Good Friday and all
the Fridays of Lent. In addition, on Ash Wednesday and
Good Fridays, Catholics from age 18-59 fast, limit
themselves to one full meal and two smaller meals
each day.
Prayer: Catholics are encouraged to pray more during Lent,
especially with Scripture. Lent is also an ideal time to
receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation in preparation for
the celebration of Christ’s Passion, Death and Resurrection.
Almsgiving: Moved by the sacrifice of Christ, many
Christians combine almsgiving with fasting, giving to the
poor the money they saved by eating, drinking or buying
less as they rely more upon God’s abundant grace.
Lent is a special time
in our liturgical year
and we would like to encourage all
parishioners to enter into this sacred time
with a sense of prayerfulness. To keep
this time as sacred, all parish committees
and groups might want to consider
minimizing business meetings as much as
possible to keep the focus and energy on
our Lenten opportunities.

Holy Land Trip Is On!
Back in August, we began exploring the possibility
of a pilgrimage to the Holy Land this coming
summer. Since then, Fr. Mark has been working
with a highly regarded pilgrimage company to
develop the itinerary. The trip is now planned and
nearly ready for registration!
The pilgrimage will be from June 10-19, 2018. It
will include 8 full days of visiting all of the major
sites of Jesus' life around Galilee and Jerusalem.
Stops include Bethlehem, Nazareth and the
Mount of Olives.
Information sheets with full details are available
at the Welcome Center.
Catholic Charities Annual Appeal
Your Mercy: Transforming Lives and Communities
The 2018 Catholic Charities Annual Appeal takes
place this weekend with an in-pew commitment
process. This is not a special collection, but a chance
to make a significant pledge (payable in installments)
to help the “least among us.”
If you have not received a letter from Bishop Perez
asking for support, please respond to the in-pew
appeal. If you received a letter, please respond to it.
There is a box on the in-pew envelope to show that
you responded by mail.
Please consider a gift that will help the 400,000
people Catholic Charities serves in Northeast Ohio.
Please pray for a successful appeal that provides
programs and services to the needy.

Get Rewarded for Being Different
Have you done an unusual service project for the
“Father, Help Me to Serve” competition?
A prize will be awarded to the family that has
done the most original service project
by March 1.
For ideas, see a list of 100 service project ideas
on our website. Don’t forget to bring in a picture
of your family working on a service project.
Live Stations of the Cross
To Be Presented This Month
Our sixth graders will present Living Stations of the
Cross on Feb. 26/27, with grades 1-5 in attendance.
We are looking for four parents each night to be
extra hands and eyes for the catechists. Also, you
will be assisting with selecting costumes for the
sixth graders on Feb. 12/13. Please contact your
child’s catechist if you can help.
Parishioners are invited to come and pray the
stations with our students.
What Can You Do For Lent?
Instead of giving up sweets for Lent again, you can try
something new that enriches your soul.
We have Small Groups that are meeting “Just for Lent” for six
weeks, including special parent and child groups that allow
parents to participate while their children play. Groups meet this
week through the week of March 18 to watch and
discuss videos. Forms are in the Welcome Center area.
If you want to do something on your own, check out Dynamic
Catholic’s “Best Lent Ever” at www.dynamiccatholic.com. This
free program sends you an email each day to guide you through
a 40-day journey to be the best version of yourself.
Also, students will be bringing home CRS rice bowls to help
families engage in prayer, fasting and almsgiving. There’s a
special page, crsricebowl.org/families, to help you.
Meeting reminder for second grade parents:
There is a Eucharist meeting with Fr. Steve and
second grade parents on Feb. 12/13. Please take
your child to class and then proceed to the
meeting at 6:15 p.m. in the Gathering Area.
