•Indonesia intends to set up the goal of making
electric vehicles account for a quarter of car
production by 2030.
•New Indonesian regulations will require all
electric vehicle manufacturers to gradually
increase their locally manufacturing share, with a
target of 80% in 2030, while electric vehicle
manufacturers will target 80% locally made in
2026.
•The government is fully supporting the electric
vehicle industry in order to reduce the country's
dependence on petrochemical fuel imports. On
the other hand, it also hopes to make good use of
the rich nickel ore reserves in the country. This is
one of the main materials for lithium batteries for
electric vehicles. Battery recycling company,
GEM from China and Hanwa from Japan have
invested in Indonesia for this potential opportunity.
•The leading OEM from China have
been active in the Indonesian market
since 2017.
•--In 2017, Wuling Motors invested
US $ 700 million in a plant in Cikarang,
West Java, which can produce
120,000 cars per year. 56% of auto
parts for Confero is made in Indonesia,
and Wuling has expanded local
dealers from 35 to 80, creating 3,000
jobs for the lndonesia.
•-In 2018, China DFSK invested US $
150 million in Indonesia, and plans to
build an engine plant in Indonesia.
DFSK also plans to increase the
number of dealers in Indonesia to 50.
