Part of Alerton’s Ascent™ product line, the newly designed Microset 4 is like no other wall sensor on the market. Touchscreen display, crisp edge-to-edge glass, small bezel setting, elegant layered construction, quality stainless steel ventilation detail, designed for longevity—all this adds up to an aesthetically pleasing wall sensor with technical functionality that is second to none for all types of jobs, buildings and campuses.

The Microset 4 is a drop-in replacement for Alerton’s Microset and Microset II devices because it uses the existing Alerton Microset bus; a simple VisualLogic® controller (VLC) ROC file update enables front-end access to new features and functionality. All Microset 4 units include room and outside temperature sensing and display, relative humidity, fan control and a configurable LED status light indicator—all in a single wall sensor. The sensor also has the optional capability of being used to control room lights and window blinds through appropriate direct digital control (DDC) logic in the associated VLC.

Future releases of the Microset 4 wall sensor will include integrated CO2 sensing, MS/TP communication, and “No Logo” variations to meet precise job specifications and reduce the number of devices mounted on a customer’s wall.

Note At launch, VLC ROC files supporting new Microset 4 functionality will be available for Gen4 controllers (VLC-1000.bin) and the VAViH-SD controller (VLC-1007.bin). ROC files for the VLC-444 and VLCA-1688 will be available later in 2014.

Microset 4 with MS/TPThe Microset 4 with optional MS/TP capabilities, expected to release in Q2 2014, uses the BACnet® MS/TP network layer and can replace wall sensors of third-party BACnet systems as well as applications where there is a long cable run between the controller and sensor.

The Microset 4 with MS/TP does not need to be paired to a VLC and can tie into the new or existing BACnet MS/TP network. The included features make it easy to use and it can control any BACnet point from an Alerton controller.

Microset 4 with carbon dioxide (CO2) sensingThe Microset 4 with CO2 sensing, also expected to release in Q2 2014, work with VLCs to determine ventilation needs and manage the outdoor air supply to maintain acceptable levels of CO2 in the space.

This sensor uses an industry-proven, self-calibrating logic called the Automatic Baseline Correction (ABC) algorithm. The algorithm constantly tracks the Microset 4’s lowest CO2 reading over 7.5 days and gradually corrects for any long-term drift, tuning the readings—at a maximum default speed of about 50 parts per million (ppm)/week—continuously calibrating Microset 4’s CO2 sensor. The Microset 4 with CO2 sensing eliminates the need for users to calibrate every few years, and its 10-year lifespan exceeds most specifications for CO2 lifespan requirements.

What do all these features mean to customers? We’ve eased installation to cut labor time, completely revamped user interface for a five-star experience, improved accuracy to meet stringent specification requirements, and overhauled the design for a sleeker, more modern look.

The Microset 4’s LED status indicator instantaneously displays heating or cooling status and energy saving mode; or users can program the colors on the Microset 4 to provide other, customized status displays.

The Microset 4 is backward compatible with Alerton VLCs, providing users with a tenant control interface, and enabling them to display information and allow occupant control according to the needs of each application. Customizable and intuitive operation enables occupants to manually freely adjust and control setpoints, or override scheduled operation in 30-minute increments for more economic control of sporadically occupied areas such as conference rooms.

The Microset 4’s improved Field Service and Balance modes allow technicians and Balancing Agents to view and adjust advanced user settings right from the Microset 4 display, ensuring the system is operating within specified parameters.

Your technicians will have a reduced learning curve when using the Microset 4 because the field service mode supports easy to read, full text codes, eliminating the need to memorize the legacy, two-character codes.

With its backlit LCD touchscreen display and sleek, edge-to-edge smart phone-style glass, Alerton’s Microset 4 wall sensor modernizes the look of any wall. The top quality materials and high-level finish extends the life of the unit.

What is included (what’s in the box)All Microset 4 wall sensors ship with a backplate for mounting, and torx screw and allen wrench for physically securing the sensor to the wallplate.
