De Nuestro Párroco Mi Querida Familia Parroquial,
Durante el Rito de Ordenación de un sacerdote o diácono, el hombre que debe ser ordenado se
arrodilla ante el obispo ordenado y hace la promesa de ser obediente al obispo y a sus sucesores a lo
largo de su ministerio sacerdotal o diaconal. En parte, esta obediencia es la razón por la que cada vez
que los sacerdotes son transferidos de una parroquia a otra; y debemos aceptar, con humildad, la
voluntad del obispo que es el jefe de la iglesia local. Durante más de tres años, San Lorenzo ha sido
bendecido con seis diáconos y estamos muy agradecidos por su generoso servicio a la parroquia.
Debido a las necesidades de una de nuestras parroquias locales, el Arzobispo Gregory Hartmayer ha
transferido al Diácono Pete Ranft a St. Marguerite D'Youville aquí en Lawrenceville a partir del 1 de junio
de 2021. El diácono Pete y su esposa, Carol, se unieron a nuestra parroquia en 1989 y han sido
miembros muy activos desde entonces. Entre las muchas maneras en que Pete estuvo involucrado en
la parroquia, sirvió como catequista durante muchos años a nuestros estudiantes de escuela media y
secundaria incluso antes de tener sus propios hijos. También sirvió en el Consejo de Financiero,
Sociedad San Vicente de Paúl, Ministerio de visita a la cárcel, Ministro Extraordinario de Santa
Comunión; y Ministerio al Hospital y visita los enfermos en casa, Campus Católico en Gwinnett College
y también Alpha. Además, solía tomar fotos en celebraciones litúrgicas (Vigilia pascual, Primera
Comunión, Confirmación, etc.), para ayudar a la parroquia a construir recuerdos. Pete fue ordenado
para el diaconado permanente el 3 de febrero de 2018.
El diacono Pete será muy extrañado por todos. Dado que todavía no podemos tener reuniones en
persona fuera de nuestras celebraciones litúrgicas, no podemos, por desgracia, darle a nuestro
Diacono Pete el tipo de fiesta de despedida que se merece. Sin embargo, lo apreciamos en nuestro
corazón y prometemos orar por el al comenzar este nuevo capítulo en su vocación y servicio a la
arquidiócesis. En nombre de toda nuestra parroquia, estamos inmensamente agradecidos con él por
su servicio desinteresado y humilde a esta familia parroquial y oramos por la bendición y protección de
Dios sobre él.
Además, quisiera llamar su atención sobre la grave necesidad de Evangelización en nuestra sociedad
actual. La tarea de difundir el Evangelio se ha vuelto aún más urgente a medida que nuestro mundo
sigue siendo definido cada vez más por las fuerzas seculares. Todo esfuerzo verdadero y sostenible en
la evangelización debe comenzar con un encuentro con la persona de Jesucristo. Debemos
encontrarlo; conocerlo y hacernos amigos de él con el fin de que llevemos a cabo eficazmente el
mandato de difundir la buena noticia a todos. Somos bendecidos aquí en San Lorenzo con el
Programa Alpha que nos ofrece una oportunidad única para conocer a Cristo de una manera sencilla
pero práctica y aprender a amarlo fielmente. Te invito personalmente a considerar participar en Alpha
este verano. Al tratar de construir una parroquia evangelizadora, Alpha es una gran herramienta para
ayudarnos en este esfuerzo. Para una evaluación más fácil y preparada, vamos a conducir el
programa virtualmente este verano, a partir del miércoles 2 de junio de 2021. Para obtener más

Este es un recordatorio amistoso de una carta enviada por el Arzobispo en Pentecostés nos deja saber
que ha sido revocada la dispensa de no asistir a la misa dominical que se otorgó debido a la
pandemia, pero que a partir del domingo 22 de mayo la asistencia a misa será reinstaurada para
todos. Como tal, les pido que comiencen a hacer planes para reanudar
nuestra adoración en persona para recibir la Santa Eucaristía. Además, les
pido que tengan paciencia con nosotros mientras tratamos de incorporar
algunos cambios necesarios para cada vez acomodar a más personas.

My dear parish family,
During the Rite of Ordination of a priest or deacon, the man to be ordained kneels before the
ordaining bishop and makes a promise to be obedient to the bishop and his successors throughout his
priestly or diaconal ministry. In part, this obedience is the reason why every so often priests are
transferred from one parish to the next; and we must accept, in humility, the will of the bishop who is
the head of the local church. For over three years, St. Lawrence has been blessed with six deacons
and we are grateful for their generous service to the parish. Due to the needs of one of our local
parishes, Archbishop Gregory Hartmayer has transferred Deacon Pete Ranft to St. Marguerite D’Youville
here in Lawrenceville effective June 1, 2021. Deacon Pete and his wife, Carol, joined the parish in 1989
and have been very active members since then. Among the many ways in
which Pete was involved in the parish, he served as catechist for many years to
our Middle and High School students even before he had kids of his own. He
also served on the Finance Council, St. Vincent de Paul Society, Prison Ministry,
Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, and Ministry to the Hospital and
Homebound, Campus Catholics at Gwinnett College, and also Alpha. In
addition, Deacon Pete used to take photos at liturgical celebrations (Easter
Vigil, First Communion, Confirmation, etc.,) to help the parish build memories.
Pete was ordained to the permanent diaconate on February 3, 2018.
Deacon Pete will be sorely missed by all. Unfortunately, since we still cannot have in-person gatherings
outside of our liturgical celebrations, we cannot give Deacon Pete the kind of going away party that
he deserves. However, we hold him dear to our hearts and we promise to pray for him as he begins this
new chapter in his vocation and service to the archdiocese. On behalf of our entire parish, we are
immensely grateful to him for his selfless and humble service to this parish family and we pray God’s
blessing and protection on him.
In addition, I would like to call your attention to the grave need of evangelization in our society today.
The task of spreading the Gospel has become even more urgent as our world continues to be defined
more and more by secular forces. Every true and sustainable effort in evangelization must begin with
an encounter with the person of Jesus Christ. We must meet him, know him, and befriend him in order
for us to effectively carry out the mandate of spreading the Good News to all. We are blessed here at
St. Lawrence with the Alpha Course which offers us a unique opportunity to meet Christ in a simple yet
practical way and to learn how to love him faithfully. I personally invite you to consider participating in
Alpha this summer. As we continue to build an evangelizing parish, Alpha is a great tool to assist us in
this effort. For easier and more ready access, we are going to run the program virtually this summer,
beginning on Wednesday, June 2, 2021. For more information, you can contact the parish website

This is just a friendly reminder that in the Archbishop’s Pentecost letter, he revoked the dispensation
from attending Sunday mass due to the pandemic beginning on Pentecost Sunday, May 22. As such,
we ask you to start making plans to resume in-person worship in order to receive the Holy Eucharist.
Also, we ask you to be patient with us as we try to incorporate some necessary changes to
accommodate more people.

La Ascensión del Señor
El gran énfasis de este pasaje está en el envío de los discípulos a
proclamar el Evangelio y hacer grandes y maravillosas obras en el
nombre de Jesús. Este pasaje nos orienta hacia una visión que
está en las manos de Dios, por lo tanto, constantemente
impregnada de bondad y del cuidado y la compasión de Dios. El
reino de Dios se hizo definitivo con la venida de Jesús, pero aún
no se ha cumplido. Un componente clave del reinado de Dios es
la derrota del maligno y el triunfo del bien sobre el mal. Esto ya
está asegurado en la Resurrección de Jesús y en su triunfo final
sobre el poder del pecado y la muerte. La bondad ya triunfa y es
evidente para todos los que creen. En esa postura de fe, los
creyentes pueden obrar maravillas y prodigios, porque es el Señor
quien actuó en ellos y a través de ellos. Así como Jesús
experimentó oposición, resistencia, incomprensión y rechazo, esto
acompañará continuamente a cualquiera que responda con fe y
creencia a esa bondad presente entre nosotros. La fe nos permite
creer en la bondad de todo lo que ya se manifiesta en el mundo
gracias a Jesús. La falta de fe nos paraliza, sumidos en la
incapacidad de percibir la bondad de toda la creación de Dios.
La elección es nuestra. Determinaremos si otros verán o no la
bondad de Dios operando en el mundo o si se quedarán en
tinieblas.

The Ascension of the Lord
The great emphasis of this passage is on sending forth the disciples to proclaim the Gospel and
to do great and marvelous deeds in the name of Jesus. It orients us to a worldview that is in the
hands of God, thus consistently suffused with goodness and with God’s care and compassion.
The reign of God was made definitive with the coming of Jesus, but is not yet fulfilled. A key
component of God’s reign is the defeat of the evil one and triumph of good over evil. This is
already assured in the Resurrection of Jesus and in his ultimate triumph over the power of sin
and death. Goodness already triumphs and is evident to all who believe. In that faith stance,
believers are able to work marvels and wonders, for it is the Lord who operated in and through
them. Just as Jesus experienced opposition, resistance, misunderstanding, and rejection, he will
continually accompany anyone who responds in faith and belief to that goodness present in
our midst. Faith enables us to believe in the goodness of all already evident in the world, thanks
to Jesus. Lack of belief paralyzes us, miring us in the inability to perceive the goodness of all
God’s creation. The choice is ours. We will determine whether or not others will see God’s
goodness operative in the world or will be left in darkness. What will be our choice?
