INDUSTRY NEWS // NZ Fitness Expo //

Well, it’s now been a week since the New Zealand Fitness Expo and I’m sitting here pondering about the whole event.. Personally I couldn’t wait to go so I ended up going day 1 / Saturday morning and just like a shit load of other people that are super passionate about the industry, I was always a little suspect to how the expo will turn out – many questions like… how many people will turn up, what kind of deals will there be and of course, how many samples will I get lol… Some would say that this is harsh to think but it’s mainly due to the public’s and also my own perceived expectations having been overseas to other international expo’s and how awesome they are, even the likes of what you get across the ditch in all the expo’s in Australia!

However, I have to tip my hat off to the organizers as I feel each year it gets better and better, obviously I’m super stoked how 2017’s event was.

The way I see it, we little ‘ol New Zealand definitely punch above our weight and I think it’s unfair to have those expectations and put that pressure on something we know deep-down that it will never be a Mr Olympia or Arnold’s and we must realize that the product we get as an end result, we definitely shouldn’t complain and accept what we get.

The variations of exhibitors that were on show were fantastic, great options and something I really noticed this year compared to the previous years was the selection of samples to try on the spot.

GUESTS In my eyes, the biggest draw-card this year was the Koala King himself – Calum VonMogar! I’m telling you, the line to see him was ridiculous, so farken crazy I didn’t have the patience to wait see him even though I was super keen as he’s definitely on my bucket list to meet but fark that lol. The next in line to see was the legendary Ronnie Coleman It probably didn’t help that I had met him several times before and also in my opinion he’s a little out dated and I don’t use his supp’s so I didn’t even think about seeing him this time. In saying this though, big ups to the peeps that got him here as the line to see him obviously told a different story!! The final draw card was being able to meet Joe Pitt (Australia’s WBFF Pro) who was an absolute legend, such an awesome guy, plus I got to catch up with all our awesome NZ athletes like Laura Gully, Jake Campus, Bjorn Constable, Tiare Tawera, Dan Manzola and Kate Mickleson to name a few (but many more) who in my eyes do a legit job as role models in the health and fitness sector.

NZ FITNESS MODEL SEARCH Even though I actually didn’t attend the show, it seemed to be a massive success. The NZ Fitness Model Search was run / managed by Jade MacKinnon, the feedback was positive and it had a lot of great interest for everyone. Again, this was a huge improvement from the previous years shows especially when it came to the number of competitors who all did a fantastic job.

CONCLUSION Overall I farken really enjoyed my time there, so much so I had to Instagram story to let the peeps know who were on the fence about going, to make the effort and go!! Feedback from most people I have spoken to since last week, the verdict is super positive which in my eyes, is awesome news for an industry that’s continuously growing and that I’m super passionate about.
