sansol Engineering College,-a self financing institute, established in 1998 under the society of The Academy of Engineers (India). The College is approved by AICTE, New Delhi and Dept. of Higher Education, Govt. of West Bengal, affiliated to WBUT, West Bengal and recognized by UGC, under

section 2(f) UGC Act (1956). The college started with four departments and 180 students. Now the college offers seven streams of B.Tech courses in Engineering, namely Electronics and Communication Engineering, Applied Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Information Technology, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Civil Engineering and three Master degree courses, namely M.Tech in Electrical Engineering, M.Tech. in Electronic & Communication Engineering and Master of Computer Application. Except those AICTE-approved courses, another two University-approved courses namely BBA (H) and BCA also running with the name of Asansol Engineering College. The Institute was sanctioned a financial grant under TEQIP phase I to improve learning outcomes and employability of graduates. The Institute got "AA" award by a reputed magazine through the survey of Engineering Colleges in East and the Northeast India. The college is running in a wide land area, approx 17 acres with more than 3000 students, more than 200 faculties and laboratory assistant, four multistoried buildings, three multistoried building for boys and girls hostel, more than 150 class rooms & laboratory, individual seminar room for each department, 24 hours internet facility etc. The college aims at enhancing Post-Graduate education and Research & Development programs with the attainment of academic autonomy and to achieve that aim it likes to restructure its curricula to make it flexible, learner-centric and industry-oriented. The College feels that the achievement of academic excellence is the need of the hour and to attain that it, at first, likes to emphasize on strengthening the existing PG programs and in the subsequent phase it likes to introduce more disciplines in PG education. While developing the PG program, the College likes also to give due priority towards doctoral research programs with special emphasis on collaborative research with other institutions as well as with the industries. Besides collaborative research, the college also likes to reap the benefit of its proximity to industries for IRG through testing and consultancy so that it can sustain the reform and leap forward.

CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIESComputer Science and Engineering

1. The CSE Department undertakes the following activities to enhance placement of students.

a) Technical Grooming classes.

b) Mock-interviews.

c) Mock-online examinations (technical and aptitude).

2. The CSE Department constantly encourages students to choose topics of their final year projects from upcoming research areas. The result is that some of the outstanding contributions from students carried out under the guidance of faculties have been published in IEEE Conference Proceedings in India and abroad as well.

3. The CSE Department undertakes the design and maintenance of the Asansol Engineering College Website.

4. The CSE Department has initiated a Tech Club for the students which will be responsible for hosting project development competitions every year. Students participating in such competitions will be able to improve their skills which in turn will enhance their job prospects.

5. The CSE Department has been constantly encouraging students to develop special utility software for the department and the college. In this context it is important to mention the following.

a) The College Website was designed and is being currently maintained by students of the department.

b) The students of the CSE Department have already developed an Online Examination Software which is fully in use for conducting various mock online examinations.

6. Faculties of the CSE Department are also taking classes in the Infosys Campus Connect course.

7. The CSE Department hosts and provides support to the different Online Examinations conducted by our largest student recruiter TCS.

The department has developed and provided the college an Online Notice Display Software which enables students to view notices on the big television screen stationed in the front lobby.


1. Two students of our department PRANAY BANERJEE and ABIR NAG achieve ranks across the globe in the “CodeVita 2014”, the TCS Coding contest.

2. Another student SWETA BURNWAL ranked 3rd in Autonomous Robotics Competition, conducted in IIT BOMBAY.

ELECTRONICS INNOVATIONthDate of Event: 24 October, 2013

Venue: Basic Electronics Lab, Asansol Engineering CollegethThe event was conducted on 24 October, 2013. The event was a model competition in which around 25 teams demonstrated their project work.

AUTOMATIC DOOR LOCKING SYSTEM won the first prize on the basis of their demonstration and presentation shown.

The Institution of Engineers (India) Students' Chapter of Asansol Engineering College organized the Student paper presentation competition on the theme of “The Frugal Engineering – Achieving More with Fewer Resources” on the occasion of 46th Engineers' day. The preliminary round paper presentation competition was held on 3rd and 4th of September, 2013 in Asansol Engineering College.

Under the guidance of Dr. M.G.Tiary, Head of the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering and Advisor, IEI Students' Chapter (ECE), the program started by lighting of lamp by the esteemed guests and inaugural speeches by the dignitaries present .

The events for the day were as follows:-

1. Paper presentation:-rd Two paper presentations were presented by the students of 3 year

ECE department on to start the event for the day. A biographical presentation on Dr. M.Visveswaraya was presented by Sanchari Mukhopadhyay.

Next a technical paper was presented by Payel Hazra and Ravi Kant on the theme of the year. “Making Indian engineering world class”.

A truly excellent paper was put on to the present audience of students, faculty members and other guests.

1. Technical film show:-

To spread the message of modern engineering, a film show followed the paper presentations. An excellent documentary movie on manufacturing and industrial production of Bugatti Veron cars was shown to the budding engineers, the students. The movie was at the same time enjoyable as well as a source of great knowledge and inspiration for the audience.

2. Quiz competition:-

A technical quiz competition was the next event to succeed. An exuberant quiz was conducted by Er. S.C.Puri (faculty coordinator, ECE) among the student members of IEI students chapter ECE, AEC.

st nd rd Six groups comprising students from 1 , 2 , and 3 year were selected as the finalist groups through a prelim round organized earlier by the chapter. Through successive rounds of quizzing the final winners were chosen.

3. Group discussion:-

The penultimate event on behalf of the chapter was an interaction session with the student members and the committee was a sort of group discussion. Where the very

stnewest members to the chapter, the 1 year students were reimbursed about the chapter and it's working.

Planning future policies

The session focused on working out future plans for the chapter ,

making strategies on the further functionality of the chapter.

The short, yet productive session ended with a presentation by rdSambit Pal, (3 year, ECE) with an anecdote on the upcoming

grand event of the chapter, the “Electronics Innovation 2.0”, a

national level circuit design and implementation competition.

Prize Distribution:-The day was finally concluded with the very last event, the prize distribution ceremony . Prizes were given to the winners of the quiz competition.

Thus the engineer's day occasion was hugely celebrated by the students' chapter of IEI in ECE department . The department wishes to take these ventures successfully in near days too.

Each of the students participated in the process with great zeal and enthusiasm.

Finally there was a felicitation ceremony held to acknowledge the numerous achievements of the students of the department in various events and fields. The winners of an weekly aptitude test competition 'ECEian of the week' were facilitated first, and then the champion Kumar Subham from 3rd year to whom Applied Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering:

Humanities:

Indo-Korean Cultural Conclave

Indo-Korean Cultural programme was an initiative to bridge the gap between two cultures of two different countries. A team of 16 persons from South Korea came to showcase their culture and at the same time some of the students of Asansol Engineering College also participated in the programme and portrayed our culture.

Inter - Departmental GD CompetitionthOn 24 of March, 2015 an Inter - Departmental Group Discussion

Competition was organized to promote linguistic and communicative competency among the students through beyond syllabus activities and edutainment programmes. This co curricular activity was also a step to enhance confidence and eliminate stage-fright among the students.

World Women's Day:

The Department of Humanities has endeavoured to instill the human principles among the students through commemorating World Women's Day so as to reach out to the voce of the women section and promote gender equality.

Hiroshima Day

was to give a tribute to those who lost their lives on that day and a protest against the war mongers and also to improve the ethical sensibility of the students.

Inter – Departmental Presentation Competition

The purpose of organising Inter – Departmental Presentation rdCompetition on 23 April, 2012 was to celebrate World English

Language day. This programme was an initiative to make the students realise in this era of globalization communicating in English is must. It was also an initiative by the department to make the students overcome their stage-fear and develop their communicative competency.

Awareness Campaign on Water Management [20/04/2010]

The campaign was held at a colony in Disergarh, Asansol where there was a scarcity of water. The intention was to make them realize the value of water. Students gave presentations and performed small skits to do so.

Special News

Dr. Monish Chatterjee who currently Heads the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) of Asansol Engineering

College, was awarded the PhD (Engineering) degree by Jadavpur University, Kolkata in 2012. He was appointed the Head of the

Department of CSE in June 2012. He was further promoted to the post of Associate Professor in February 2013.
