Bell Ringer: Write what you think is in this animal cell.

7.2 Eukaryotic Cell Structure

As you take notes, fill out the information for each term and draw a picture that will help you remember them.

Cytoplasm

The cytoplasm is the part of the cell outside the nucleus

Nucleus

The nucleus contains most of a cell’s DNA

Contains the genetic information that is passed from one generation of cells to the next.

Ribosomes

Proteins are made on ribosomes

endoplasmic reticulum

Where lipid components of the cell membrane are assembled, along with proteins and other materials that are exported from the cell

endoplasmic reticulum

Rough ER -Has ribosomes on its surface

endoplasmic reticulum

Smooth ER -does not have ribosomes on its

surface

Golgi apparatus

change, sort, and package proteins and other materials from the ER for storage in the cell

Lysosomes

Help break down lipids, carbohydrates, and proteins into small molecules that can be used

vacuoles

saclike structures that are used to store materials

Mitochondria

Converts the chemical energy stored in food into compounds that are more convenient for the cell to use

Chloroplast

Capture the energy in sunlight and convert

it into chemical energy

cytoskeleton

The cytoskeleton helps support the cell

Activity

On the back of your notes draw a picture of an animal cell. Label each part and describe it’s function.

This is a cheat sheet you can use on the test.
