NEWSLETTER / Summer 2019

With big shoes to fill, Andrew McCutchion embarked on his first Vale CRP cohort in May. With a good number of people graduating it was a very successful programme. Andrew ably supported by Mat Butcher ran the engagement sessions and notwithstanding an average of 9000 steps per session, the group were introduced to Frisbee Netball, Cosmeston Medieval Village, Jaffa Cake Ice-cream and a behind the scenes tour of the principality stadium. ( Sadly the day BEFORE Pink arrived! ) Of the graduates, some are embarking on RC’S volunteer training, some intend on doing the mile and one has already completed a stint as the Denmark team’s point of contact for the homeless world cup. All have already had a lasting effect on the Vale Centre with their efforts in designing and planting all new plants at the back. We wish them all well and hope that this has been merely a stepping stone to a whole new fulfilling and joyous journey.

Susie nominated the volunteer team for the C3SC volunteer group award for the year and Recovery Cymru volunteer team won the award. Huge congratulations to our amazing volunteer team - what a fantastic achievement.!! Susie and Jude met with Darren Robinson and Helena Robertson who work for Cardiff and Vale Health Board NHS to review how partnership working is progressing - all parties agreed is going extremely well. Helena has booked interviews with a number of our volunteers who have applied to volunteer within the NHS. We are looking forward to working more closely with the NHS in the future!! Mohan Patel is now running an F2R peer support group in the CAU on a Monday morning between 10 and 12 for CAU clients. CAU clients have been informed that this group is running every Monday morning. A big thankyou to Mohan for working so hard and developing this peer support group.

We continue to engage with and work alongside services and providers in Cardiff and the Vale. If you like further information please contact us . OUTREACH

After a recent flurry of activity in terms of tidying, pot preparation and pruning, the back garden at The Vale Recovery Cymru is showing signs of new life. Originally a project embarked upon by those on the Community Rehab Programme it has been continued by the members with a little help from the Barry rainfall. It saw the planting of two Acers, Fuchsia, Sunflowers and the resurrection of the long assumed dead Holly bush. A special thanks to Bubs for donations of plants, pots and butterflies! Long may it flourish and grow…..

As part of Volunteers week 2019, we held a volunteer celebration at Cosmeston Lakes to thank our wonderful volunteers for all that they do. The event was well attended, with plenty of food fun and activities enjoyed by all. It was a special opportunity as a team to say thank you and how fortunate we are to have wonderful volunteers!! We would like to reiterate our thanks to all of our volunteers. Without them, we would not be where we are today. Also a huge thanks to Jude for organising and supplying the hot dogs!!

Volunteer Celebration Moving on…… Congratulations Susie Susie Boxall was recently successful in securing a part-time position as an Occupational Therapist in Newport. However, Susie will also be staying with Recovery Cymru part-time in the role of Programme Development worker. Our volunteers joined Susie in a fun day at Barry Island to celebrate her good news

We are excited to announce that Recovery Cymru was recently awarded a Track 2000 Legacy Fund. This has enabled the organisation to recruit a full time volunteer worker for the organisation. We are delighted to inform people that Jude Enticott will be taking on the role on a full time basis as of September 1st. This is an exciting time for our volunteering programme and we look forward to Jude continuing and building on the programme that has been built up over the last few years!!! Congratulations Jude!!!
