D a t e ( C o l o r o f b o x e s / b o r d e r s t o m a t c h c o v e r )3 J u l y 2 0 1 6Friends, July 4th to many means family gatherings, a day at the beach, cook outs with the all-American Cheeseburger and Hot Dogs, and ending the day with a Fireworks Display and singing God Bless America. This is how I remember celebrating the 4th of July growing up and this is how I continue to celebrate with my family today. I cherish traditions and I love creating memories with my family.
My dad who was very patriotic and loved his country, instilled in me the true meaning of the 4th of July. The Fourth of July is our Country’s Birthday, it is the day we declared Independence from Great Britain. It was the day that we shared the common idea that people should have their freedom
to live the way they want, to work and play the way they want and to me, most importantly, the freedom to pray. I feel so blessed to live in this great country, and I thank God for all he has provided.
So what can we do today for our great country? As members of the US “family” we all have basic responsibilities, for example, going to school, working, voting & obeying the laws, but we also need to take care of our country by keeping it clean, taking care of the environment, looking out for others, being kind to all we meet and helping those in need.
This is everything that I know Jesus would do and how he would encourage others to live their life. As we are one body
with many parts, we are one Country with many different kinds of people, but we are one nation under God, with unalienable rights endowed equally to all, among this life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
I would like to thank and pray for all who serve and protect our great country as well as other foreign countries. As a mother watches over her child, I know God is watching over you. May we continue to pray for peace, love and hope and be thankful for this great country.
God Bless and Happy Fourth of July!
Susan

Oh Lord, I am weak. You know this.
In fear I seek the way to you. Do not despise me.
Do not forsake me when I fall. Draw near even to me,
Although I am of no account, Because I thirst after you.
Come Lord, and dwell in me, and work yourself in me
all that you have commanded. Make me yours
for ever and ever, in love unshakeable.
Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Pilot is an important voice in the public square that brings you the Catholic perspective on current events.
Inspired by the vision of our publisher, Cardinal Seán O’Malley, The Pilot covers it all — from in-depth reporting on Pope Francis to the good works of Boston parishes.
Each week, The Pilot brings you the stories of Boston Catholics who bring the Works of Mercy to life on a daily basis.
Proclaiming the present Holy Year of Mercy, Pope Francis said he wants to make it evident that the Church’s mission is to be a witness of compassion. “Let us not forget that God forgives and God forgives always,” Pope Francis said. “Let us never tire of asking for forgiveness.”
We invite you to join the Pilot readership today for only $19.95. This limited-time offer saves you 49% off the regular subscription rate. Thank you for your support.
