The deadline for applications is 31 October 2013. After this date in early November, we will invite selected candidates for assessments and interviews. If you go to http://www.ismoshi.org/admissions/scholarships you will find information about ISM’s scholarship scheme and there is specific information for Arusha Campus at http://www.ismoshi.org/admissions/scholarships/scholarshi ps-arusha-campus/ including admission form. If you know of academically talented students who would be going into Form 1 (M2), Form 2 (M3) or Form 3 (M4) in January 2014, please pass on the information to them. We will be advertising this exciting initiative in various ways and visiting schools over the next two weeks. Note that Friday 4 October will be very busy in town from 7.30 am when participants in the ‘International March for Elephants’ will arrive near the Cultural Heritage Centre in what promises to be large numbers. ISM will have a banner created by our own students on the walk. Please consider avoiding the area as you come to school on Friday 4 October. MYP e-Assessments trial for IB On Wednesday 18 September, we gave a letter to all M5 families seeking permission for their son/daughter to participate in MYP electronic-assessments on 8 October. The trial involves students doing two tests through the use of a computer. If you have not seen this letter, please let Éanna know at [email protected]. The subjects involved are ‘History’ (part of Humanities) and Interdisciplinary. Please note that how the students do does not influence their scores at ISM in any way. The feedback provided to the International Baccalaureate (IB) aims to help them develop effective e-assessments over the forthcoming years. Good luck to our swimmers this weekend who compete in the national championships. It is also a busy weekend for 19 teachers as they participate in Wilderness First Aid training to support our OP Programme and other activities.

Kind regards, Maree Raeburn Éanna O’Boyle Deputy Head of Campus/ MYP Coordinator PYP Coordinator [email protected] [email protected]

Our September order is now closed. Thank you to all who supported us by making purchases. We will advise when the books arrive. The books will be available from the library for collection. You will be notified via a bulk email and the newsletter once books have arrived.

P6 considered the question ‘What is Art?’ Their self portraits became an informal ‘Who am I?’ as students came from all over the school to try to work out who was featured in each picture… Can you guess who they are?

P4 Museum Opens to Rave Reviews!

The lines outside the P4 Museum rivaled those of great museums around the world! People patiently waited for the opportunity to view artefacts from ancient civilizations. The Romans, the Incas, the Aztecs- P4 students confidently presented their understanding to parents and other classes. Students from EC to M5 visited the Museum and enjoyed the exhibitions and presentations. Well done P4!

Collaboration is at the heart of our programmes. Each week the MYP Steering Committee meets to explore issues in the MYP and plan for how to further enhance the teaching and learning at ISMAC.

Class Trips Programme off to a great start… This week our M4s returned from their 4 day trip to West Kili…a little tired, a little damp but with lots of positive things to say about the experience. This follows on from the M5 Symposium early in the month, then the M2 trip to Pangani. The class trips for M1 and M3 are in second semester. Many thanks go to all the students for their enthusiasm and engagement during the trips, to the staff who give their time and expertise willingly and to Miss Wood for overseeing the program this year. In next week’s newsletter we will share some of the highlights from the trips to date.

Co-Curricular Activities (CCAs)

• If you have not paid for your Capoeira, Gymkhana Tennis or Taekwondo sessions, please do so at the Finance Office.

Sport • Under 16 Boys Basketball – Our boys played Braeburn on Tuesday

and were unfortunately beaten in a very close matchup. Good luck to our boys as they are playing against ESSO in town, on Saturday 9:00-10:00am.

• Under 16 Girls Softball – Our girls played Braeburn on Monday and beat them 16-13. Well done ladies!

• The Tanzania National Swimming Championships will be held at Braeburn this weekend. Many of ISM’s swimmers from both campuses will be participating at this event. Good luck to them all!

Interhouse Athletics • The event will take place in two separate sessions, one for EC-P6,

the other for M1-M5. • The Primary event will be next Tuesday, the 1st of October, starting

at 8:30am and it will conclude at 12:30. EC will finish their activities earlier, at approximately 10.30am.

• Students from P1-P6 will have lunch at 12.30 on this day. EC lunch will be at the usual time.

• The Secondary event will take place on Thursday, the 3rd of October, starting at 8:30am and it will conclude by 2:30pm.

• This will enable each age group to participate fully in a range of activities, adapted where necessary to suit their age group.

• In both the Primary and Secondary sections of the school, students have been focusing on developing the skills applicable to a range of both track and field events. Running, jumping, throwing and of course sportsmanship have all been a part of the programme.

Best wishes, Matthew Hendriks Co-Curricular Activities/Sports Coordinator If there are any parents who would be able to give some time on either day, it would be greatly appreciated. Please contact Matthew Hendriks [email protected]
