Project Grants: Questions and character counts

Introduction

This information sheet lists the questions and character limits for an application to Arts Council National Lottery Project Grants.

There is a maximum character limit for each question. Our online application portal counts every letter, number, punctuation mark, symbol and space as a character. We have provided an approximate guide to our standard character limits, and how many words this can equate to, below.

Character limit 50 600 1000 1500 3000

Approximate word count 5 to 10 100 170 250 500

The number of questions, maximum length of your answers, and number of documents you need to provide depends on the amount you are applying for. This guide sets out the maximum limits for the amount applied for.

Remember, you do not have to use all the available characters, but you should provide enough information for us to be able to make a decision on your application.

The How to apply guidance explains the kind of information we are looking for in your answers to each question. Read this before you begin to fill in your application.

If you apply for more than £15,000, you may need to give your answers in two separate boxes on our online system.

The following pages set out the questions in each section of the application form.
