Gabrielle Aplin

Gabrielle Aplin is a 20 year old British singer songwriter from Wiltshire. She began her singing career when she started posting videos of herself doing acoustic covers of bands such as Paramore and You Me At Six onto YouTube. She then gained mainstream attention when she signed to Parlophone in 2012 and began to record her debut album. She also gained more popularity when she was selected to soundtrack a John Lewis television advertisement with a cover of Frankie Goes to Hollywood's "The Power of Love", which reached No 1 on the UK Singles Chart on 9 December 2012

Biography She attended Sheldon School in Chippenham, where she describes her fellow pupils as "upper-middle class and I don't think I fitted in with their lifestyles". She went on to study music at City of Bath College, participating in the college's in-house label BA1 Records. Gabrielle Aplin developed a fan base by posting performance videos to YouTube. Her most popular videos include her original composition "Home", and covers of "The Liar and the Lighter" by You Me At Six, "Teenage Dream" by Katy Perry and "Forget You" by Cee Lo Green. She has described her music as "very family orientated, very personal“. In July 2010, Gabrielle Aplin performed on her local radio station BBC Wiltshire. Her first release was the 5-track Acoustic EP which was released on the iTunes Store on 13 September 2010. It reached the top 25 in the UK iTunes album chart, and features the song "Reverse" which was used on E4 TV show Made in Chelsea.

Biography continued Gabrielle’s second EP saw her expand her sound, showcasing a more folk rock sound and playing all instruments herself (common of the singer songwriter genre). Never Fade was released on 9 May 2011 and reached number 14 in the UK album charts, it was in the top 100 in America and top 50 in Australia.As of November 2012, Gabrielle Aplin has completed six headline UK and Ireland tours. In November 2011, Gabrielle embarked on her next UK tour starting off with the Borderline in London. She played songs from Acoustic EP and Never Fade EP, alongside covers such as "Sheila" and a rendition of Fix You by Coldplay. In addition she premiered songs such as "Home" and "Keep Pushing Me" from her next release, Home. In addition to her headline touring, Gabrielle Aplin has appeared as a support act for Matt Cardle, Charlie Simpson and Gotye. Gabrielle is supporting Ed Sheeran on his 2013 tour of Australia and New Zealand. Gabrielle announced in March 2013 that she'll be returning to UK to Tour a bigger headline show across the country in Autumn 2013.

YouTube

YouTube has been a huge part in Gabrielle Aplin’s life as that is where she was first discovered and gave her the success that followed. She first recorded a video for the first time 5 years ago which was a cover of ‘My Heart’ by Paramore. Currently this video has 230,275 views. After the success of this she continued to make videos of covers she performed. YouTube helps many people of the singer songwriter genre come to prominence and Gabrielle Aplin is a perfect example of this.
