Goals and achievements.

Indian Judicial System , an Anglo Saxon product, was often

criticized as rich and affluent friendly. Poor and other weaer sections

of Society shuddered from the very idea of getting involved in a

Pun!a"i saying . Guarantees offered to its #itizens "y #onstitution of

India were meaningless for them.

Post Independence Indian Judiciary did not remain o"livious

to the plight of poor and other weaer sections of Society. In

$ussainara %hatoon &s State of 'ihar ()*+(- /J *0, Apex #ourt of

the #ountry impressed upon Government of India and State Governments

that it was high time that a comprehensive legal service programme is

introduced in the country as it was not only a mandate of e1ual !ustice

implicit in Article (2 and right to life and li"erty conferred "y

Article 3(, "ut also the compulsion of the constitutional directive

em"odied in Article 4)5A. 6hese instructions were hammered in %hatri

&s State of 'ihar and Suhdas &s 7. 6.

#rusade undertaen "y Supreme #ourt of India fructified in

, inter5alia, the Government of India enacting 8the /egal Services

Authorities Act ()*98 which came into force on ).((.()):. 6he State of

Pun!a" has framed ;ules and ;egulations there under namely, the Pun!a"

State /egal Services Authorities ;ules, ())0 and the Pun!a" /egal

Services Authority 6ransaction of 'usiness and loosing

vision

Sessions =ivision Jalandhar taes pride in having

implemented those schemes and programmes in letter and spirit and with

zeal , enthusiasm, fervour and conviction.

settling their disputes through mediation is priceless.

yet achievements of =/SA is tell a tale in itself. It has provided legal aid
