This piece was created by Ida Applebroog. This photo is a production still from the “Art in the Twenty-First Century” Season 3 episode, “Power” from 2005. Applebroog creates unique art by compiling different canvases to create one piece, exploding the frame-by-frame logic of comic book and film narrative into three-dimensional environments.

Applebroog’s work inspired me to take one image and “blow it up”. As you can see in the picture, I’ve used several sheets of paper, or canvases, to create one canvas, just like Applebroog does. Also, just like Applebroog, my human is unproportional.

This piece is titled Helping Hands and was created by Louise Bourgeois. Her work is said to be closely related to her childhood, which Bourigeois says has never lost its magic, mystery, or drama. This piece stood out to me because of the detail put into a hard material to use.

Although the photograph at first glance seems odd, I used my foot as a response to Bourgeois’ Helping Hands because “a helping hand” is always asked for, though usually you’re seeking someone to take a load off your shoulders and relax and kick your feet up. As a soccer player, my feet are my most useful tools!

This image is showing Andrea Zittel’s “Various A-Z Six Month Seasonal Uniforms”. These dresses feature various fabrics, leather straps, and suspenders. This project was started because she was required to wear respectable clothes to work, but was unable to afford lots of different clothes, therefore she invested in one outfit that she loved.

When reading the reasoning behind Zittel’s “Six Month Seasonal Uniforms”, an alarm went off in the back of my head! The best response to Zittel’s work I could think of was a picture of my soccer jerseys. These two items make up my “Four Month Seasonal Uniform” as they were worn atleast once a week from August through November.
