Dear Art Patrons: On behalf of the entire Art Miami LLC team, I would like to welcome you to Art New York 2016, taking place May 3-8, 2016. For the second year, Pier 94, located in the heart of Midtown Manhattan, will be transformed to welcome the most discerning art aficionados. For 2016, we are thrilled to premiere CONTEXT New York at Pier 94 to join its sister fair, Art New York . Expanding from Miami, CONTEXT New York develops and reinforces emerging and mid-career artists in the primary market, while Art New York continues to focus strongly on mid-career cutting-edge artists, anchored by a fine selection of blue-chip secondary market works by top name artists from the Modern & Post-War eras.

Art New York would not have been possible without the great energy and support of all the participating galleries. It is their hard work, loyalty and commitment to showing quality art that will ensure Art New York is a resounding success. We also would like to thank all the galleries that submitted work for the Art in Public Spaces.

The fair would not have been possible without our cultural partners. A special thank you to the Children’s Museum of the Arts for taking care of the kids in the CMA Kids Art Center, and to One Art Nation for bringing together leading advisors, dealers, curators, critics, and artists to present the can’t-miss educational event of the season. We also are proud to host the Kevin O’Leary exhibit “Irreconcilable Images,” which benefits the Perry J Cohen Foundation and can be seen at booth B10.

Our shuttle service will provide convenient transportation between Pier 94 and the Frieze Ferry at 35th Street, and our official luxury hotel partner, Langham Place.

Producing an art fair is an enormous undertaking, and I would like to offer my sincere gratitude and appreciation to our dedicated staff: Caitlin, Dane, Lauren, Lyna, Melissa, Neil, Heidi, Tina, Will, and especially Tom and Grela, for keeping the entire operation under control, and a special thank you to all the loyal freelance and intern team members.

Letter from the Director

Thank you to Julian Navarro for bringing CONTEXT to New York, for sharing his vision, and for his collaborative spirit throughout the year in order to offer the best exhibition at Pier 94 in May.

Finally, I would especially like to thank the Art Miami LLC partners, Nick Korniloff, Mike Tansey and Brian Tyler, and my colleagues Pamela Cohen and Grela Orihuela.

New York remains the center of the international art world and the city is home to some of the world’s most extraordinary museums, galleries, artists and collectors. We thank our guests for attending and hope you enjoy the fair. We look forward to seeing you throughout the most exciting week in New York City’s arts community.

Sincerely,

Katelijne De BackerDirector | Art New York

Bruce Helander discusses the ups and downs of survival in the Big Apple.

3:00 – 3:45PMPanel: Trends of the Art World from an Investment Perspective As the finance industry moves towards viewing art as an asset, more collectors are looking to monetise their art and invest it in other interests. Innovative art funds are also offering investors an opportunity to buy high-end art along with a complete art service solution. Annelien Bruins, Senior Art Advisor and COO at Tang Art Advisory, Terence Doran, Managing Director at Art Capital Group and Madelaine D’Angelo, Founder & CEO at Arthena, discuss trends and advise on the financial benefits of this tangible asset.

RELATIONAL ABSTRACTIONS: A CURATED EXHIBITION BY ROCIO ARANDA-ALVARADOWhat happens when geometry begins to move? The

purest form of modernist ideals—geometric shapes, planar forms—these are the foundation of abstraction. When these shapes move or seem to move due to our perception of them, a new relationship is formed or perhaps an old one is deepened. El Museo del Barrio’s participation in CONTEXT explores the continued relevance of the Optical and kinetic art movements to contemporary aesthetics.
