Even 80 years after founding his famous orchestra, Glenn Miller’s music is alive and well. Over 18 musicians and singers bring the unforgettable Glenn Miller sound and perform those songs that everyone remembers. This is a show not to miss for jazz and swing fans alike or the incurable romantics who want to step back in time. The legendary Glenn Miller was the most successful of all the dance bandleaders back in the swing era of the 1930s and 1940s. Adrienne Arsht Center presents DORRANCE DANCE – ETM: DOUBLE DOWN February 5, 2020 at 7:30 p.m. Ziff Ballet Opera House Tickets: $40, $55, $70, $85* Part of the 2019-2020 Knight Masterworks Dance Series made possible with the generous support of Knight Foundation With a musical score triggered by a company of eight dancers and their fabulous footwork, ETM: Double Down takes the uniquely American dance form of tap to a new level. Tap has always been a way of talking to the stage, but with Van Young's electronic tap boards, the stage is now able to talk back as every step, swipe, and scrape sets off an element of sound - turning the entire stage into a musical instrument. Michelle Dorrance is one of the most sought-after tap dancers of her generation and “one of the most imaginative tap choreographers working today” (The New Yorker). Under her direction, Dorrance Dance upholds the traditions of tap dance, a uniquely American art form, while propelling them forward rhythmically, technically, and conceptually. You've seen her perform with Stephen Colbert on television, now MacArthur "Genius" Award recipient, Michelle Dorrance, and Bessie Award winner, Nicholas Van Young, bring tap into the age of electronic music in their internationally acclaimed collaboration, ETM: Double Down.

Considered a genius in his native Spain, superstar Miguel Poveda's nuanced and soulful voice has no equal in the world of flamenco. He possesses a strong technique and a charming presence on stage that he exploits to make each of his concerts a unique musical event, singing like “no one you will have heard before” (Graham Watts). Poveda takes the audience on a tour of the traditional musical forms of flamenco, from the more cheerful malagueñas and alegrías to the more sorrowful seguirillas and soleás, all the while sharing his personal connection to the music with a spontaneity that ensures a completely exceptional performance. Adrienne Arsht Center presents FLAMENCO FESTIVAL MIAMI XIII: MARÍA PAGÉS COMPAÑÍA: YO, CARMEN March 26, 2020 at 8 p.m. Knight Concert Hall Tickets: $39, $59, $79, $99* Part of the 2019-2020 Knight Masterworks Dance Series made possible with the generous support of Knight Foundation María Pagés returns to Flamenco Festival Miami with a new work deeply rooted in her desire to talk about women – embarking on a genuinely feminine adventure that tells a different story about what real women feel and live. Pagés aspires to transcend the myth of the ‘femme fatale’ – as originally sculpted by French novelist Mérimée and, since then, by many other masculine interpretations. This is not the story of Carmen we know: Yo, Carmen is about the emergence of the feminine voice – the voice of all women, long hidden because of their gender. The show’s potent narrative is stitched together through choreography expressing Pagés’ wisdom and contradictions, her loves and heartbreaks, her strength and weakness, her insecurity and dissatisfaction, her loneliness, her sensuality and unattained gender equality, and her maternity. This all comes together with a company of eight dancers – both female and male – and seven musicians, both classical and Flamenco, playing live. The score for Yo, Carmen incorporates adaptations of Bizet’s famous opera fused with reinterpretations of classical music influences and original flamenco compositions by Rubén Levaniegos, Sergio Menem and David Moñiz – all performed by a string quartet including flamenco guitar players, a cellist and a violinist, as well as a percussionist. The songs (‘el cante’) are interpreted by two female singers using original poetry written by women from different cultures and geographical spaces, united by the same concerns. Adrienne Arsht Center presents FLAMENCO FESTIVAL MIAMI XIII: COMPAÑÍA MANUEL LIÑÁN: ¡VIVA! March 27, 2020 at 8 p.m. Knight Concert Hall Tickets: $29, $49, $69, $89* Part of the 2019-2020 Knight Masterworks Dance Series made possible with the generous support of Knight Foundation Manuel Liñán returns to Flamenco Festival Miami with an all-male dance company in a new show that explores gender identity through characterizations inspired by the flamenco woman. ¡VIVA! is an ode to freedom of movement, where the feminine is embraced from the masculine body as its own; where gender roles, in a codified world like flamenco, are broken with joy and enjoyment, creating new terrains that, although unexplored, are not distant. Liñán creates a transformation in ¡VIVA! that constructs a body that we long for in order to enhance our way of expressing ourselves. In a celebratory key, Liñán proposes the plurality of flamenco dance, through both its different forms and their singularity. And he does it with six bailaores-bailarines accompanied by live musicians who will be in charge of exploring and diving into this fascinating universe of the feminine, as seen from the masculine; thus, exposing these two identities, which are part of our own nature.

Adrienne Arsht Center presents FLAMENCO FESTIVAL MIAMI XIII: STARS OF FLAMENCO MERCEDES RUÍZ, MARÍA MORENO AND EDUARDO GUERREO March 28, 2020 at 8 p.m. and March 29, 2020 at 2 p.m. Knight Concert Hall Tickets: $39, $59, $79, $99* Part of the 2019-2020 Knight Masterworks Dance Series made possible with the generous support of Knight Foundation Stars of Flamenco is a long-standing tradition of Flamenco Festival Miami, bringing together exceptional flamenco dancers and singers in an evening demonstrating the diversity and vibrancy of flamenco. This year, Manuel Liñan (2017 National Dance Prize) reappears as the Artistic Director of Stars of Flamenco. This year's iteration will combine three of flamenco’s leading dancers - Mercedes Ruíz, Eduardo Guerrero and María Moreno. Mercedes Ruíz “speaks about flamenco with a commanding truth and virtuosity” (Financial Times). The bailaora from Jerez is one flamenco’s current stars. Eduardo Guerrero is flamenco in its richest current incarnation. His “marvelously eccentric solos” (The New York Times) display a breathtaking array of movement that often pushes him to the perilous limits of human motion. María Moreno, who like Guerrero worked with the Eva Yerbabuena Company, is an astonishing dancer who pays tribute to the traditional style of Cádiz, to which she adds her own expressivity, originality and passion. The three dancers will be joined on stage by a cadre of musicians and a special guest artist, rising singer Maria Terremoto, the youngest artist to receive the Giraldillo Award for New Artist at the Seville Flamenco Biennial. Adrienne Arsht Center presents THE PRICE IS RIGHT LIVE™ April 14, 2020 at 8 p.m. Ziff Ballet Opera House Tickets: $35, $55, $75* Part of the 2019-2020 Live At Knight Series made possible with the generous support of Spirit Airlines and Café Bustelo The Price Is Right Live™ is the hit interactive stage show that gives eligible individuals the chance to "Come On Down" and play classic games from television's most popular game show. through cultural euphemisms and political correctness proves that Sedaris is a master of satire and one of the most observant writers addressing the human condition today. David Sedaris returns to the road following the release of his most deeply personal and darkly hilarious collection, Calypso. Sedaris sets his formidable powers of observation toward middle age and mortality. Make no mistake: these stories are very, very funny – it’s a book that can make you laugh ’til you snort, the way only family can. Sedaris’s powers of observation have never been sharper, and his ability to shock readers into laughter unparalleled. But much of the comedy here is born out of that vertiginous moment when your own body betrays you and you realize that the story of your life is made up of more past than future. If you love David Sedaris's cheerfully misanthropic stories, you might think you know what you're getting into at his live readings. You'd be wrong. To see him read his own work on stage allows his autobiographical narrative to reveal a uniquely personal narrative that will keep you laughing throughout the evening. City Theatre and Adrienne Arsht Center present SUMMER SHORTS 25: Program A June 4 - July 5, 2020 at various times Carnival Studio Theater Tickets: $35, $45, $55* Program A: "Best of the Fest" Anniversary Shorts Program B: Brand-new Anniversary Shorts America's Short Play Festival returns in 2020 celebrating City Theatre's 25 years of "shorts" with TWO different programs of the best brand-new and favorite revivals of ten-minute plays and musicals in the country! He's too busy worrying about tropical storms, evil spirits and steering clear of that sneaky, hair-snatching Duppy! But with the help of Dr. Bird and his feathered friends, Ziggy's reminded that "every little thing, gonna be all right!"
