• A precast concrete insulated panel provides all
the elements of a wall assembly in one unit, or one
pre-manufactured building component.
• Panels are made up of two air impermeable
materials - concrete and rigid insulation.
• There are three types of rigid insulation used:
1. Expanded Polystyrene
2. Polyisocyanurate
3. Extruded polystyrene
• The insulation is inside the precast panel, what
one would call a precast concrete sandwich panel.

What are precast insulated (sandwich) wall panels?
Cut-away Sample
WHAT ARE PRECAST INSULATED
(SANDWICH) WALL PANELS?
• Insulated Sandwich panels are primarily a high quality, and durable form of wall system.
• They are composed of two layers of concrete along with a layer of insulation between the concrete.
• The panel is held together using shear ties and reinforced with convention reinforcing or high strength “Prestressed”steel strand.

INSULATED SANDWICH PANELS
29
• Insulated precast
sandwich panels, when cast
face down, can offer a much
broader range of colours and
textures, great design
flexibility, but are more
expensive than industrial
rolled rib panels.

• An architectural & structural material possessing great strength
• Allows predetermined, engineering stresses to be placed in members to
counteract stresses that occur when the panel is subjected to loads
• This is accomplished by combining high strength concrete to handle
compression with high tensile steel strands to handle tension. Pre-tensioned at
our facilities
• Allows for longer spans, reduced deflection and increased material efficiency

• Sandwich panels can resist damage caused by small impacts from
shopping carts, vehicles, forklifts, etc.
• Common damage incorporated with metal cladding. Concrete can
withstand sharp sudden jolts at this level of impact.
